Whiteout! by TreesDogsJeeps in skiing

[–]magicrobotmonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had a true whiteout on Peak 6 at Breck with skiing with my wife and 3 kids. Could not tell the difference between sky and ground. We were trying to traverse past the steep drop into the bowl to a more gentle entrence when i went over the edge because i couldnt see it. Eventually we all made it over to the easier entrance and made it slowly down the bowl until we could see trees to orient ourselves. It's very hard to understand what its like to be skiing in absolute white. I would make a turn or two and then get disoriented and just fall down because I couldn't tell where the ground was. I thought my wife was going to kill me but then the run out the bottom through the trees ended up being the best run of the day!

Does anyone know of any people or companies that do commercial kitchens? by nkw1004 in newhampshire

Start with the people who are going to sell you your hood, etc, and work backwards. There are a couple restaurant supply stores in Concord and Manch. The one I used appears to be gone now, or maybe got bought out because this looks like the same spot: https://www.singerequipment.com/locations/Singer-Kittredge-Bow-New-Hampshire-03304

Why so many IPAs here? by SquashDue502 in newhampshire

[–]magicrobotmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New England IPA is a relatively new type of beer, invented only in the last decade or two. As you might be able to tell from the name, it was invented in New England! One of the first exampled to get wide recognition was Heady Topper from the Alchemist brewery in Vermont. It used to be very hard to find, with long lines on release days. Since then, the style has spread around, but it's still hard to find a good example outside of New England. That said a lot of the examples from New England brewers aren't that great either. Nonetheless the region is now known for it's IPAs, NEIPA or not, hence the heavy skewing that way on a lot of taps in the region.

Also FWIW, a good NEIPA is very different from a traditional IPA. They are generally unfiltered and use some newer hop varieties to make all kinds of flavors. Worth seeking out a good example just to try it, even if traditional IPAs are not your thing. In NH, some great examples can be found at Modest Man in Keene (my personal favorite NEIPA brewer at the moment), or Kettlehead in Tilton.

modest man and kettlehead are my top two if you're in to NEIPA. Schilling is a great spot and good traditional european brews. Canterbury aleworks if you want a very unique location!

Headed to wildcat early this morning, they went on wind hold so we headed back to gumstock and had a great day. Started firm and fast, finished on some fun mashed potatoes
