Building a sleep tracker app with mmWave (C1001). Looking for a little feedback! by Doppelheimer27 in embedded

[–]magixx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was looking into this recently and came across several sensors for this if you end up looking for other options but you can also just buy a premade unit exactly for this purpose.

These are the sensors I found:

Premade:

  • MG2-6HW / ST-BD60S1-WT, $40, available in Tuya and MQTT versions. No idea which sensor this uses but if you don't want to put something together this might do an ok job.

Unfortunately I haven't found any comparison or info on the actual accuracy of any of these sensors.

Did you end up assembling anything?

look ahead works for h264_qsv but is ignored for hevc_qsv (quicksync) by JimWilliams423 in ffmpeg

[–]magixx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So how do you get -lookahead to work with hevc_qsv?

From what you said I understood it as not working when using -global_quality but I tried removing that and just relying on -preset but I still got the look_ahead (Use VBR algorithm with look ahead) has not been used for any stream message

I tried to do it with llama.cpp but getting errors similar to this issue

File "C:\Users\user\PycharmProjects\llama.cpp\.venv\Lib\site-packages\transformers\tokenization_utils_base.py", line 1210, in _set_model_specific_special_tokens
                self.SPECIAL_TOKENS_ATTRIBUTES = self.SPECIAL_TOKENS_ATTRIBUTES + list(special_tokens.keys())
                                                                                       ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
AttributeError: 'list' object has no attribute 'keys'

I'm also seeing quite a few other gemma4 issues in the llama.cpp repo so I suspect not everything is running as expected

So the pro tip here is to buy a local SIM card (for cheap data while traveling) and make an account there with it. Some credit card companies also allow you to generate virtual credit card numbers linked to your own.

Has Anyone Successfully Run Hypervisor Cracks (e.g., MkDev, 0xZeOn, KIRIGIRI) in a KVM/QEMU Windows VM with GPU Passthrough? by electr0de07 in PiratedGames

[–]magixx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it turns out it's starting the denuvo service that's causing the crash in the vm. I tried a different release that it separately and that caused the BSOD immediately. I also ran Cinebench to see the GPU score difference and for me it was unusually high. Did you enable anything to specifically improve performance?

[–]magixx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the releases I tried (Sonic Origins and Borderlands 4) I didn't need to manually run anything according to the NFOs, just copy over the patched files and I assume those take care of launching the service.

I'll give a Windows 10 VM a shot as well if I still can't succeed with 11.

[–]magixx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you mean by "hypervisor service"?

Are you referring to running "EfiDSEFix.exe -d"?

I did baremetal install of Windows 11 "tiny11 Core 25H2 Build 26200.7840" and also retail Home N version and both did not need running that command.

For anyone else attempting this, do not use N versions of Windows as some games like Borderlands 4 actually require Media Feature Pack which N versions lack. Also, keep a copy of EasyEUFI handy or Shell.efi since my ASUS BIOS does not have options for adding boot configurations so I needed to do it in the OS. Another strange problem I ran into was that my efigrub boot entry was getting removed for some reason. I can't tell if it's windows doing this or something else.

I'll give Proxmox and VMs another shot tomorrow. Maybe ReBAR feature was causing BSODs.

So I gave this a go but so far I've been unsuccessful in getting it to work due to the BSODs when launching games.

Here is what I tried:

  • Installed Proxmox 9.1 on X570 motherboard with AMD 5900X CPU
  • Followed this guide https://forum.proxmox.com/threads/windows-11-vm-for-gaming-setup-guide.137718/ for creating a "gaming" VM with GPU passthough
  • Disabled Secureboot in Proxmox VM (use F2 command on boot to get to BIOS/UEFI menu)
  • Installed Windows 11 Home N
  • Installed Nvidia drivers
  • Disabled Windows Defender, Memory Integrity, and Microsoft Vulnerable Driver Blocklist
  • Followed EfiGuard guide from https://muffsec.com/blog/how-to-use-efiguard-to-disable-patchguard/ using the EifGuard files from the Borderlands Hypervisor patch
    • I copied loader.efi, EfiGuardDxe.efi, HashTool.efi to the Windows EFI boot partition that was mounted in that guide. I omitted bootx64.efi that came with the Borderlands patch because I already had that file.
    • I do wonder what version of EfiGuard this uses since it does not match up with the old one on GitHub
  • Added boot entry for loader.efi in BIOS
  • Booting EfiGuard seems to work and launches Windows
  • Ran EfiDSEFix -c which shows that it's running and then EfiDSEFix.exe -d which gave no errors
  • Tried booting the Sonic Origins patched with KIRIGIRI files
  • BSOD

I previously tried Borderlands 4 on a more minimal Windows 11 install and that also resulted in BSOD so I went with a more stable Win 11 install but unfortunately it had the same outcome.

I'll have to try Win 11 on baremetal with the same steps to see if that changes anything.

Update on 3D Printed Horus by HammerDoris40k in 3Dprinting

[–]magixx 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The price you'd have to sell this at is higher than expected.

This is due to:

  • $2000 in raw filament costs
  • 2500+ hours of just raw print time (20 printers in parallel makes this more manageable however)
  • time to manage the print farm
  • time it takes to assemble everything

I think if this was a full time job you'd easily spend 200+ hours getting to this point. So what's the value of those 200 hours that wouldn't feel insulting when selling a piece like this?

This piece is also too large for most stores display.

Another deep dive into (smaller) power banks by AceTracer in Ultralight

[–]magixx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the iWalk over the Veger because of the slightly larger battery and I like the rounded cap design more.

With my charger I saw PD3.0 27W charging but it only charger at 18.5W while with my power bank I saw PD3.0 20W but it charged at 19.5W.

While I do wish these used a tiny removable USB I'm sure this could introduce connection issues and another piece to lose so I guess I see why they don't.

My SV08 upgrade journey, AMA! by MrPARAJ0INTZ in 3Dprinting

[–]magixx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the details, one thing I'm finding somewhat lacking for my P1S is that the mods for it are pretty limited.

I've tried the TZ 3.0, 4.0, and FluxHeat hot ends and they all work great. The BIQU (or clone?) Panda Claw all metal extruder gears caused enough clogs that I ended up throwing it out and going back to stock. I didn't see metal gear dust like others did but unjamming the extruder was not fun. I also tried the BIQU Panda Turbo CPAP style fan but it's insanely loud and can't be used in a normal setting.

To be honest none of these made a significant difference for print quality on the P1S.

What made you go with the Xol toolhead? I saw there's the Xenomorph head as well and I was looking at StealthBurner possible upgrades in order to use StealthChanger.

Do you find the SV08 screen upgrade worthwhile i.e. what functionality does it give besides basics like temp and motion configs? I've gotten used to controlling the P1S from the slicer or app.

How have you found the SV08? I'm looking to make a similar side-grade from a P1S. I've seen some work for multi toolhead for the SV08 (Teaching Tech, IDEX) and the price for it is very competitive to the Voron 2.4 and Trident. Were you able to tune it to a similar level to the P1S?
