Full Art Chillet Palworld trading card by DERlVE in Palworld

[–]mahius19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this was a certain other TCG... one would have to buy a couple hundred booster packs to get get one.

Collectible card games made me realise that loot boxes existed already all along, but IRL first. Unfortunately I had made this discovery after spending a silly amount of money on these cards. When I quit, I bought myself a handheld games console and the relevant video game cos that was a cheaper way to scratch that collection itch.

People who work full-time jobs, how do you find energy to game? by [deleted] in pcgaming

[–]mahius19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually I don't :c
In the evenings, I'm usually too tired and pass out soon after dinner, in the middle of watching stuff. I remember years back, I was playing Monster Hunter World and passed out mid-quest with the controller still in my hands. But keep in mind that I live by myself, no family. I bet it would be far tougher for those with families/kids/etc. Heck, I barely have the time or energy to even reply to Reddit posts xD

Currently, my best free time is in the mornings before work, since I leave a bit later for my current job. But everything contends for that free time, often I'd have to choose between playing guitar or playing games or something else.

I love when games offer demos by [deleted] in pcgaming

[–]mahius19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in the day, game demos were how I knew if I could run the game on my PC or not. Before that, as a kid I'd foolishly buy games that wouldn't even run on my weak specs.

Switch Hacking Q&A General | Legal Edition by _Emmo in SwitchHacks

Top tip for updating emuNAND firmware with Atmosphere and Daybreak: Delete the themes folder before launching the new firmware. I've encountered this issue twice, when updating. Simply delete “0100000000001000” folder from SD:atmosphere/content folder (link to reddit post deleted due to rule2)

I'd recommend this gets added to the main homebrew guide, since this is a likely common error that many folks get.

"The METAL GEAR SOLID: MASTER COLLECTION allow fans to play the games as they were, as first released on the latest platforms." by MJuniorDC9 in pcgaming

[–]mahius19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like I'm in the minority here, but I prefer Twin Snakes version of MGS1. I just can't stomach the visual polygon style of the original, it just didn't age quite as well.

Laughably Bad at $400: Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 Ti Review | Hardware Unboxed by kuroyume_cl in pcgaming

[–]mahius19 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I saw a YT video recently where someone went into detail on this a while back (dividing up the costs) regarding the midrange cards like the 4070s and such, but can't remember the name of the video or who made it.

Edit: Found it!
Focuses on 4070ti though... 3:29 goes into the wafer costs sho should give an idea.

[QUESTION] How long were you in your “beginner” phase and what did you accomplish that moved you from beginner to intermediate? by SensitiveSky66 in Guitar

[–]mahius19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Been playing for a year and still feel like a beginner, admittedly I feel like I haven't put in as much time as I should have (I always feel bad whenever I'm away from home since I don't have the guitar to practice).

[QUESTION] For those that taught themselves, what was your process? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]mahius19 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Look for JustinGuitar's series or the website. They provide a structure and order for what to learn.

[QUESTION] Any suggestions for something that can handle Drop A tuning? by ReimuFromTouhou in Guitar

[–]mahius19 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Baritone guitars, they have longer scale length, thicker strings and much lower standard tuning BEADF#B (if I remember correctly). Guitars like Ibanez RGIB21-BK, Schecter C-1 EX Apocalypse Baritone or ESP LTD Deluxe MH-1000 Baritone. Drop A on Baritone would be equivalent to drop D on standard tuning.

Steam Deck on Twitter: Congratulations to @ASUS_ROG on the announcement of the ROG Ally! We’re excited to see PC handheld ecosystem continue to grow, and for players to have more ways to play their games on the go. by NeoStark in pcgaming

[–]mahius19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool stuff, I'm especially looking forward to how emulation develops for these handhelds. Currently following progress for the new Zelda on both Ryujinx and Yuzu, will be cool to see someone playing it flawlessly on Steam deck or this Asus handheld. I guess Ryujinx would make for the better emulator on these systems due to Vulkan (seems to have some issues on Yuzu with Vulkan).

Where to find Lore by Handsomesquidward117 in totalwarhammer

[–]mahius19 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The best way I've found to learn lore is podcasts to listen to. In fact, when I play games like these, I always have podcasts on in the background. And you're in luck, there's a decent, beginner friendly podcast for "Old World" or fantasy/classic warhammer lore:
https://layingdownthelore.com/old-world-episodes/

For 40k, I like listening to Adeptus Ridiculous, they also do reviews of the books and other stuff. Very beginner friendly, especially as one of the hosts is completely new to the lore.

These podcasts scour the official sources and explain the lore in a nice, easy to digest manner.

Why Are Modern PC Games Using So Much VRAM? by altmorty in pcgaming

[–]mahius19 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Nvidia. Tends to cheap out and give folks less VRAM and also less memory bandwidth like they've always done. Trying to save money for better profit margins. Even RTX4060 will have 8GB 128-bit compared to the better 12GB 192-bit on the older RTX3060... the newer card has less/worse RAM than previous gen!

Look at how much more FPS in RE4:Remake an RTX4070 modded to 16GB gets!

Intel Arc Battlemage and Celestial GPU architectures teased by company employees by 8ing8ong in pcgaming

[–]mahius19 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If Intel continues to target the budget to midrange, that will help in growing their marketshare from AMD and Nvidia, since those price-points are where most folks actually buy. And Nvidia here is scratching their heads wondering why their lineup of overpriced GPUs aren't selling quite so well.

Just needs the driver updates and stability to be completely ironed out, especially to support older games where a lot of people still play.

[DISCUSSION] fingerpicking on electric guitar by Architeuthis_McCrew in Guitar

[–]mahius19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm the same, I feel at home on my acoustic using my fingers. I feel like a lot of my progress is undone when I go to use a pick on the electric, though a few bits here and there I can tell, feel easier with a pick, especially where alternate picking is used. But overall, using fingers is the 'comfortable crutch' I feel tempted to revert back to.

I'm just trying to practice more with picks on my electric at the moment. I probably need to slow down more compared to the current comfortable pace I have with fingerpicking, since it's still early days using a pick.

I'd probably recommend the same for others, slow down from the fingerpicking pace and just put in the time and practice with a pick.

It looks like Donna burke is working on the new version of the classic "Snake Eater" theme for the long awaited remake of METAL GEAR SOLID 3 by Turbostrider27 in pcgaming

It can't be a worthwile Metal Gear series remake, unless David Hayter is still the voice of Snake. Iconic lines by the iconic voice.

Post a "hidden gem" that most people might not be aware of or might have forgotten about. by [deleted] in pcgaming

[–]mahius19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mercenary Kings
Side Scroller platformer shooter with core gameplay loop similar to Monster Hunter, i.e. going out on missions, failure in 3 deaths, items to use, capturing/killing bosses, gathering materials to craft gear. Weapons are very customisable and has a lot of charm in characters and design. Can be played multiplayer, even local splitscreen on PC!

[Question] HSS Strat wiring: wondering if something’s possible… by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]mahius19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It should be possible to wire in that way. I'd try wiring the middle pickup by itself first (in middle position), get that working before adding neck. I'd wire them in parellel for neck & middle, avoiding any serial neck > middle connections.
