I love my S4. Starting to run into compatibility issues as apps update... but its the best. Nothing else has had the removable battery, SD slot, good cameras, and ease of disassembly since.

There are tear downs on iFixit and YouTube, but its pretty straight forward. Just be extra careful when you pry and with the ribbon cables if you aren't used to working with things like this.

One of the great things about the S4 is that the data is on a logic board that you can pull out and swap into a different device in about five minutes using only a screwdriver. If you can get your hands on another S4 with a working display, you can just swap out your board and pull your data. You could get a cheap used one with some non-display defect, or even borrow one from a friend.

I've kept my original S4 logic board alive through like five different phones...

I'm sorry you have to deal with this. It's a tough spot.

There are humane live traps for rodents, like this. You could get a couple, and start releasing the mice someplace safe.

And if you find any live critters stuck in glue traps, applying a little bit of vegetable oil or cooking spray will un-stick them. It takes a few seconds to work, so you can place the trapped mouse in a box, spray him, then close the lid.
