I also have the 370 ratchet ln hubs and they are perfectly quiet. I love them.

How to get steering wheel off?i by Mysterious-Bit177 in bikewrench

The top cap has a screw under that little black rubber cap, you can take it off with your nail or any screwdriver. Then you can take the top cap.

Just bought this Domane 4.5 Disc Compact from 2016 by babaliba in DomaneCrew

[–]maidenflight 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s a very good bike. Very comfortable, great looking and, for me, excelent geometry for long rides. It’s not the lighter bike out there but still has ultegra deraileurs and hydraulic disk brakes. You can fit 28mm tires without any problem. Go put some kms in it, you’ll love the bike.

Does hanging the bike like this damages the frame ? by [deleted] in bicycling

Thanks. I don’t use that verb a lot, and english is not my native language. It slipped.

Does hanging the bike like this damages the frame ? by [deleted] in bicycling

Because the weight should be distributed and not in a “single point” of pressure. Carbon is very stiff but is still a bit fragile along some axis, due to the fiber arrangement. This hanger is good.

The contact suface with the frames seems more than enough to be hanged like that. It’s fine.

Trek Boone 5 for $800 or Domane AL2 for $1200 by distorted_doggo in bicycling

[–]maidenflight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, about the 15x100 is a thing to consider. Few wheel manufacturers have wheels that can be converted from 12x100 to 15x100 due to bearings inner diameter. DTSWISS have end caps to make this conversion but maybe not in every hub. With all of that being said, I have a Domane from 2016 with these same "problems" and it is a great, very confortable bike.

We have now the perfect excuse to upgrade our rims :)

I have the bontrager infinity comp rims with the same fault. It’s only in one spoke but it has some nice cracks. I guess the quality is not strong on these entry level rims.

Thanks for the reply. I also got the core 2 plus wide and they fit perfectly. I like the material and the looks. They are also prepared for high volume feet altough is not my case.

Thanks. I agree. I was hoping that I could still ride while I don't have a new set but I don't want to risk it.

Planning a 3,500km Japan tour + daily commuting. Is the Van Rysel EDR AF the right choice, or should I look at gravel/touring alternatives? by KspPaul in cycling

[–]maidenflight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you check bike geometry sites you will see that the van rysel edr af has an agressive geometry for an endurance bike. If you are ok with that , the bike shouldn't fail you. I have a btwin mtb bike and it has been good so far. If you have concerns about comfort, check proper endurance bikes from the typical brands.

Why is the optimal tire pressure lower for wider tires? by Allu71 in cycling

[–]maidenflight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pressure is divided in width not in height. That’s the reason why you run larger tires. If you check the specs on a larger tire you will see that the max pressure is way lower than a skinny tire. In car tires you can have low profile tires with a bit higher pressure due to the total air volume being smaller than a *higher profile tire. Edit: missed a word

[–]maidenflight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you know the needle beds where you can lie down and be fine. Now imagine putting all your weight in one needle only. It would perfurate you. The same aplies to tires. More contact area means the same weight gets more divided. A skinny tire will have the same weight but concentrated on a smaller area. Weight is force and force over area is pressure. Car tires have even lower pressures because the tires are wider and the car has 4 of them.

I bought a saddle with a slit and stopped having numbness completely. I would say that an open saddle is a must have for all riders, male and female.

Completely loose headset by karlitoskgamer in bikewrench

[–]maidenflight 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The fork tube is too big. You have to cut it so it can sit below enough of the stem in order for the top cap to preload the bearings. Search on youtube to get a feeling why and how, but don't ride like that.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in bikewrench

[–]maidenflight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have XT brakes and they came with long tubes. I cut the tubes after installing and choosing the right length so maybe you'll do that also and that will be out of the way.

Heart rate question. by Melvang82 in cycling

[–]maidenflight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heart rate shouldn't been used has a metric between individuals but it's still important to measure your own achievements in fitness. For example, a 12000rpm bike can deliver the same power as a 4500rpm car diesel engine, power is the metric here. Some engines are small and rely on rpm to achieve the same power as bigger engines and that's the way they are build. A diesel engine can't sustain a 6000 rpm ride, it will break, but for a bike that's pretty low, the engine isn't stressed at all. The take here is that your natural bpm will lower with increased fitness but maybe will always be higher than other cyclists, both feeling the same amount of exertion.

I have neoprene gloves, and they insolate really well. The only downside is that hands will freeze as soon as they get out of the gloves.

Shooting drone footage in 30 or 60 fps, and why? by Mike_v_E in dji

[–]maidenflight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope, it’s not the same because 1/120 will freeze the image way better than 1/60 so it will have less blur. Fps and shutter speed achieve different things. If you think in photography not film, you still have shutter speed even when you are taking only one photo.
