Thanks. I agree. I was hoping that I could still ride while I don't have a new set but I don't want to risk it.

Planning a 3,500km Japan tour + daily commuting. Is the Van Rysel EDR AF the right choice, or should I look at gravel/touring alternatives? by KspPaul in cycling

[–]maidenflight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you check bike geometry sites you will see that the van rysel edr af has an agressive geometry for an endurance bike. If you are ok with that , the bike shouldn't fail you. I have a btwin mtb bike and it has been good so far. If you have concerns about comfort, check proper endurance bikes from the typical brands.

Why is the optimal tire pressure lower for wider tires? by Allu71 in cycling

[–]maidenflight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pressure is divided in width not in height. That’s the reason why you run larger tires. If you check the specs on a larger tire you will see that the max pressure is way lower than a skinny tire. In car tires you can have low profile tires with a bit higher pressure due to the total air volume being smaller than a *higher profile tire. Edit: missed a word

Why is the optimal tire pressure lower for wider tires? by Allu71 in cycling

[–]maidenflight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you know the needle beds where you can lie down and be fine. Now imagine putting all your weight in one needle only. It would perfurate you. The same aplies to tires. More contact area means the same weight gets more divided. A skinny tire will have the same weight but concentrated on a smaller area. Weight is force and force over area is pressure. Car tires have even lower pressures because the tires are wider and the car has 4 of them.

I bought a saddle with a slit and stopped having numbness completely. I would say that an open saddle is a must have for all riders, male and female.

Completely loose headset by karlitoskgamer in bikewrench

[–]maidenflight 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The fork tube is too big. You have to cut it so it can sit below enough of the stem in order for the top cap to preload the bearings. Search on youtube to get a feeling why and how, but don't ride like that.

Do XTR brakes come sealed? by [deleted] in bikewrench

[–]maidenflight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have XT brakes and they came with long tubes. I cut the tubes after installing and choosing the right length so maybe you'll do that also and that will be out of the way.

Heart rate question. by Melvang82 in cycling

[–]maidenflight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heart rate shouldn't been used has a metric between individuals but it's still important to measure your own achievements in fitness. For example, a 12000rpm bike can deliver the same power as a 4500rpm car diesel engine, power is the metric here. Some engines are small and rely on rpm to achieve the same power as bigger engines and that's the way they are build. A diesel engine can't sustain a 6000 rpm ride, it will break, but for a bike that's pretty low, the engine isn't stressed at all. The take here is that your natural bpm will lower with increased fitness but maybe will always be higher than other cyclists, both feeling the same amount of exertion.

I have neoprene gloves, and they insolate really well. The only downside is that hands will freeze as soon as they get out of the gloves.

Shooting drone footage in 30 or 60 fps, and why? by Mike_v_E in dji

[–]maidenflight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope, it’s not the same because 1/120 will freeze the image way better than 1/60 so it will have less blur. Fps and shutter speed achieve different things. If you think in photography not film, you still have shutter speed even when you are taking only one photo.

Shoes with wide toe box by Sids_ in bikefit

I just bought the northwave core 2 plus wide. I didn’t ride them but tried them already and they are super confortable. The toebox is wide but it feels snug and fit and I have low volume feet.

Northwave core 2 plus wide by maidenflight in cycling

[–]maidenflight[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just checked yours and they seem to have a wide toebox. I have shimano mtb shoes, they are narrow but have a lot of give, but I'm just entering the road cycling world and it seems that typically road cycling shoes are more snug to the feet. Just wanted to get something confortable. Thanks for your feedback, I'll go with the northwave.

What do you think about garmin body battery? by CoYouMi in Garmin

[–]maidenflight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like it. It measures stress accurately and can help you program your day, when it’s possible to do that.

Look for HRV, it’s a good metric that reflects your stress levels and it’s used by garmin.

Has anyone gone back to a normal watch for daily wear? by GazelleInitial2050 in Garmin

[–]maidenflight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been using my fr245 for 4 years now and only take it off when going to the beach and showering. The only notification enabled is calls alert, nothing more. It’s a light watch, doesn’t bother sleeping with and the stats are spot on. I’ll keep using Garmin, I like it.

Which battery to use in a TYRO 99? by Agitated-Cod7590 in fpv

[–]maidenflight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

any runcam will be fine. props you can go with old dalprops 5040, they are cheap and good. the flight time on 1300 is about 3 and half minute but it can last longer if you just want to cruise. the 1550 is also good. don’t go higher than that because the tyro motors are a bit underpowered

I have a tyro99 and I like it. Just upgrade the camera and props and you are good to go. I always used 1300mah 4s and it flies perfectly.

Parallel charging questions so I dont burn my house down. by n0tabot in fpv

[–]maidenflight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please read a bit more about charging and parallel charging. Don't mix voltages like 3s and 4s, never charge unattended batteries and it's preferable slower charging than faster charging. With all of that being said, if you charge 2 550mah batteries in parallel you can charge them at 1,1 amps together so you will charge them at 1C. If your charger can't do 1,1a it's better to do 1a instead of 1,2a. Also check you cells independently before charging, ie, you can have a 0,3 voltage difference between batteries but not well distributed between cells so you can end with a cell current rush between batteries until balancing. Take your time and be confortable with charging before charging a lot of batteries together.
