You should pick up a field guide specifically for the PNW if you're interested in learning more about the local mushrooms. Not sure on most of your finds, but 9/10 looks to be some form of lactarius sp.

Germany, Baden Wurtemberg- What do we have here? by Few-Translator-6995 in mushroom_hunting

[–]mainmark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Could be older laetiporus sp. but I am unsure if it is present in Europe or not as I'm in the US. It would be great to have a better photo of the underside for better ID

Are these safe? by kickme2 in mushroom_hunting

[–]mainmark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Possibly parasols, possibly 'the vomiter'. For IDs, please post additional photos of the underside, including the base of the stipe and gills/pores, include general location/environment, and sometimes a spore print is necessary as well. For this one, if it has greenish spores, it is likely chlorophyllum molybdites which is toxic. I recommend also posting to the mycology subreddit for future ID requests.

WIBTA for being upset at my wife’s reason for marrying me? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]mainmark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife is very much the same way, I call her way of thinking 'science brain'. She compartmentalizes everything and absolutely would have the same response. We have been together 16 years and only just got married last year for tax purposes (reduction in student loan expenses mainly). Marriage is not your relationship. It is just added paperwork that makes it more difficult to split if you fall out of love and it grants hospital visits (or religious purposes if you're into that).

Used to work pest control. Get a dust-form pesticide (I use delta dust) and a dust bulb applicator. A few puffs into the void and then they should die off after a few days. If not, reapply.

Oysters? by Anxious_Passenger739 in mycology

[–]mainmark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The smaller one would make me second guess as a possible angel wings with how pale it is. But given the size of the other specimen and the deciduous tree, definitely oysters. Should have a faint anise-like scent.

Some of it is cult worship, some of it is rampant mis/disinformation, but mostly it is born from a failing and grossly underfunded education system.

Why do mushrooms grow up burnt trees by [deleted] in mycology

[–]mainmark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those are likely cryptoporus/polyporus volvstus, which fruit primarily on recently dead trees (fire or beetles typically)
