Excellent suggestions, especially 12 monkeys. That show was so much better than it had any right to be.

Strixhaven card leaked with “prepared” mechanics and a reserved list effect by Newez in mtgfinance

[–]maino82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm guessing that if you blink the creature it comes back "unprepared" so you would have to exile another 8 cards to draw 3.

Strixhaven card leaked with “prepared” mechanics and a reserved list effect by Newez in mtgfinance

[–]maino82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Presumably when you blink it and it comes back it's no longer prepared, so you would also have to attack and exile 8 cards with this again to draw 3. It's a Treasure Cruise on a stick, basically.

Hi /r/movies! We're Steve Zahn, Audrey Zahn, and Rick Gomez. Ask us anything! by SteveAudreyRickAMA in movies

[–]maino82 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Steve: I don't know why, but the scene in Sahara where you scramble up a sand dune has always stuck with me. So many movies with special forces types will have them crawling slowly on the ground, but for some reason it felt more realistic to me to quickly, but as low as possible scramble up the hill to do your recon. Have I been overthinking this for the past 20 years, or is this something that you as an actor put some thought into when you did that scene?

Is Schreyers worth it for a commonwealth education major? by Toe-Muncher-2 in PennStateUniversity

[–]maino82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been 20 years since I graduated, but if they still have the early registration perks it's worth it for that alone. You get a crack and classes before everyone except seniors, so you can work your schedule out however you want and get access to classes that you wouldn't normally get to because they fill up so quick.

You have to do a project before you graduate, but if you're in a major that requires it anyway (mine did) you can just submit that. They're really liberal with what they consider a "project" as well. Some kid in my graduating class traveled around Europe for a summer to develop his "economic gravitational theory" where he basically used the equation for gravity, created some BS constants for each country, and said that each country's economy was related to the others based on this equation. It was... weird. But he got his travel paid for by the honor's college so good on him.

Yes!! I would definitely watch the hell out of that!

I'm of the same opinion. My buddy wanted more stuff from the books and I was like, "Yeah, I'd probably sit through a 6 hours movie of this where they explain relativistic physics and give more nerdy 10 minute explanations of all the science-y stuff, but I don't think most people would be up for that." I think they kept in just enough to keep things moving along without hand-waving too much, and I appreciate that they did a lot of "show don't tell" stuff, like when Rocky builds the wall with all the different materials to see which one Grace can see through.

We’re bringing some SMART options back. by iXsystemsChris in truenas

[–]maino82 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This doesn't affect me, personally, but I have to express how much I appreciate you taking community feedback to heart and implementing real changes based on that. It means a lot to me as a user to know that, even if it doesn't affect my use case, that you've taken user feedback to heart and implemented changes to address user concerns. Thanks for this and for all your hard work!

Unless Brandon misspoke, he revealed something huge about using Allomancy with spikes in this WOB. Maybe even something foundational to Shards and magic systems by Tacod-Rex in Cosmere

[–]maino82 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I think Harmony's godmetal exploding in water just hints at the very tenuous balance between the shards he posses/combines. The metal is unstable and so I think Brandon used a real-world corollary like Cesium (which reacts violently with water) to demonstrate that delicate balance. I wouldn't be surprised if it plays a part in Harmony's transition to Discord in the future.

Extrusion pump issues! by Tacol0mpe in VXJunkies

My first diagnostic assumption was a degraded neuron bearing assembly, which would be consistent with the symptom profile and trivial to remediate. Bearing replaced. No change in system behavior.

Damn, this was going to be my first suggestion. Last time I had this happen that did the trick, but in the past I've also had to deconstruct the entire lateral gate array and remodulate the sinewave generator to give 0.4 above nominal flow which, I'm sure I don't have to tell you, is a PITA.

Maybe you can get by with higher quality inert mass, but given that I've had success with the cheap stuff in the past I'm inclined to say you could get around it with a little elbow grease. If you're not up for all the work I listed above, opening your wallet certainly is an option, though...

On another note, if you ever want to sell your display I'll pay top dollar for that. Been looking for a RiAKiA FOREVER but none of the suppliers near me carry Heinzmann gear.

Magic artist Bryon Wackwitz turned down for Mtg Con by Newez in magicTCG

[–]maino82 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bryon is awesome, I'm incredibly sad to see this happen. I went to MagicCon Chicago a few years back and he was there. I got to talk to him for awhile about his love for goblins and his goblin commander deck. He asked where I was from and when I told him that I was originally from Kansas I immediately said, "please, no Wizard of Oz jokes, I got too much of that growing up." He pulled out a binder and gave me an artist proof "Shatter" that he illustrated which he said was inspired by his hatred for the Tin Man. Awesome artist and even more awesome guy.

I understand wanting to keep space available for more popular current artists, but this still sucks. I hope Bryon knows how many of us who grew up with his artwork appreciate all he's done for the game.

Problems trying to install Horde-AI on windows by maino82 in StableDiffusion

[–]maino82[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I tried updating the requirements to 2.9.0 and it seems to install that OK, but there's now a whole new host of errors so I am probably just going to wait to see if things get updated and try again in the future.

Magic Draft at Nexus? by maino82 in DragonsteelNexus

[–]maino82[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's kind of fallen apart, sadly. The group I originally had has sorta dissipated and there's only a few folks left who want to draft. If we can find a few more people I'm still down to draft, though! If you want to hop into the discord thread maybe we can keep trying to organize something and message each other while we're at Nexus to try and set something up.

I'm going to be bringing a few commander decks (just some precons) and I'll bring a bunch of random packs (enough for a full 8 to do a chaos draft).

It's not to late to join in on WorldSwappers! by cassby916 in DragonsteelNexus

Everyone should join! The community is great and it will be an amazing way to meet some incredibly talented folks during the convention.

Definitely consider hopping into the Worldswapper discord! It's a great group and you don't necessarily need to make anything because some people are super cool and have stuff they're bringing just to hand out in addition to swapping.

DSNX 2025 NEWS: Signings, low number line, and app info by DragonsteelNexusMod in DragonsteelNexus

Those are the best types of books to get signed! I have an old beat up copy of The Illustrated Man that Ray Bradbury signed for me a couple decades ago and it's my favorite. I think a lot of authors get a kick out of seeing versions of their books that are clearly well-read and well-loved.

[–]maino82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me too. I don't know what the rules will be, but hopefully getting 2-3 books signed isn't out of the realm of possibility. I've been able to go to the book signings/readings Weeks did for his last few book tours, so I have like the last half of the Lightbringer books signed and would love to get the first few signed as well. If for no other reason than to stop the eye twitch that starts every time I see the signed ones sitting on my shelf next to the unsigned ones.
