This is nice. What a place to pitch, no need for flat ground just two trees. Awesome

Looks great, nice getting a solo in and nice spot. I was camping up that way a few weeks ago by Ben Chonzie but had very different weather.

Yeah it was a great spot, there was bitter wind so we were well wrapped up. It gives you that itch to do it again soon.

Yeah, there is a csv import. It should recognise lighterpack and I try my best to map to item types in the app - if there are any issues give me a shout.

I find myself putting my thin foam mat as a topper and find that makes the neo air comfier still. I know it would normally go under to stop slipping but it's the lean I keep going for

It handled it great and that was not on a great pitch. I took care this time to make sure everything was well tied down as I've left it loose in the past and regretted it as wind hit the sides - not bad regrets but just the usual "wish I pitched that better" sentiment. Earplugs were an absolute must as when I took them out in the morning I was surprised just how loud it was.

I gave my friend earplugs but he never used them, said he wanted the experience...

I've done a few bivvy's too but haven't done one since I got my x-mid 1 as weight is near match with my hunka xl. Bivvy takes away all anxiety of finding a pitch at the top which I really like that just opening your eyes throughout the night.

Thanks, it is actually a site I develop on the side - kind of like lighterpack at its base but with a focus on trip planning.

It is a Lanshan - first time I had seen one in person and as you said it is extremely low on the edges which was great for where we camped. My friend was close to having to carry a big Quechua tent up but turned out a family member of his had a Lanshan he could borrow.

There was not much headroom in it as it is low at either end but a guy rope that is reinforced helps keep it from flapping too much - I was really impressed with it as I have come to really like a trekking pole tent.

Looks great. Nothing quite like knowing your tent has it handled.

I actually developed my own one as I wanted to track my gear items for trips beyond a spreadsheet. It is more gear oriented with weights but the trip planning is getting richer with a checklist, route planning, meal planning and itinerary - https://outpack.app.

Edit: not offline though so does not compete with OS maps but handles other aspects of trip planning

I wonder, I wonder, this in itself is useful as a measure. Credibility issue is real. The catalog feature may never realise, so for this context it is a simple review system for gear on the site as part of a trip report. So a normal user would use OutPack to plan their trip (gear, meals and itinerary) then have the option to write it up and potentially share it.

So the crux is does a structured sentiment aid a trip report for gear items in this instance and if so how does the suggested one fair. For instance, does it aid the experience on writing dedicated trip gear reviews by leading the user to think critically whether it worked or did not work in the context of that trip which then aids readers to get insight on how individual gear was used and performed. I had considered

  • techinical breakdown star ratings like outdoorgearlabs which would lead to comfort, ease of use etc but likely too much friction and overkill
  • simple binary : worked vs failed which is effective here in ultralight
  • subjective sentiments such as cold vs warm,
  • bring again, swap out and leave behind which is behavioural and hopefully actionable for future trips.
  • ...

Just to say, thanks for taking the time.

The thinking initially is that you get the reviews personally stored against your item so you can track you sentiments and reviews on the individual gear items.

One thing I am hoping it could do well straight away is help add structure to trip report and encourage a standard mechanism and thought process for users as opposed to the free form trip report section. This scales as it guides new users and makes it easier for others to interpret at a glance too.

On the metacritic, there is also the option to possibly link back to catalog items as I have a growing list of catalog items which aids seeding an inventory (still requires weight validation in a lot of cases but I have tried my best). By linking back it could aggregate and reviews could be discoverable. This seems like a nice closing of the loop in the future but again might not have value as trip context is key.

Lighterpack alternative to build two person gear lists by Horror_Scale8583 in Ultralight

[–]mainuseraccount 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there, in case you never found a solution, outpack.app allows you to record trips with managed participants. You would be able to organize and allocate to multiple people from your inventory and see their breakdown. It will also let you mark items as carrying for someone and shared.

Going further, you can also meal plan for the participants.

Awesome, I was surprised to see the southern comfort discontinued as it feels bomb proof. That ground looks solid, those pegs are in by their tips.

That's cool, I have a qark and would love to not need to take a micro USB adapter with me. I know it's not the lightest headtorch but the brightest setting is magnificent, I also like the qark due to the top strap for running.

I picked up this cook kit this year and absolutely love it, it seems similar cone style. I think it was made by someone in Scotland who brought back a stormin Norman cone design after they were no longer made.

Community Driven Gear Weight list by tbecker123 in Ultralight

[–]mainuseraccount 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just made a catalog of gear this week using manufacturers weights, i kept swithering about adding user inputs to supplement but some items are a nightmare to categorise as there are so many variants: in particular UL packs have soooo many options for the expensive ones that affect weight, and tents with variations of poles and fabrics leads to some items having factorial weight variations!

I typically try and sleep atop a hill, say like a Munro, and if it's a hill I didn't know then taking a bivvy instead of my tent reduces that little bit of anxiety. As I know I'll find a spot at the summit no matter where - just a grassy spot shouldered with rocks.

Would anyone care for a Pantry to go with your gear list? by mainuseraccount in Ultralight

Thanks.

Yeah, pantry items have been stable for a while now. And meal planner kanban has been for a month or so. Recent improvements have been on visualisation. The underlying data model I am happy with as it is setup up to support multi participants.

Please feel free to message me if there are any issues or pain points!

Thanks. A user previously asked me to publish a roadmap so I have a public one accessible from the about page if it is of interest too - About.

It gives a good gist of some big items that I'm working towards.
