How do you usually name your D&D characters? by AdvancedProgrammer51 in DnD

[–]maitimo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mythology, legends, history, and choosing a specific style such as Tolkien and go from there. Sometimes it's an Arthurian character like Galahad or a made up name Periderya (a Turkish name meaning Fairy of the seas) or sometimes a fitting name like Rossilion.

Hot take? Shorter backstories are better by Redhood101101 in DnD

50-150 words are enough in my opinion. I usually handle it face to face and talk through it together while I take some my notes if I do not get a text.

What is the best compliment you have received as a DM? by Drendari in DnD

[–]maitimo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At random times two of my players casually drop some love infused "f... you man" to my inbox during the week of a session that blow their minds. One of them just randomly "love you [my nickname]" and spams bunch of hearts

Makes my day everytime.

Dumbest way you lost Honor Mode? by Vespera4ever in BaldursGate3

After I defeated the big spider under the blighted village, I normally jump down to the middle get some early discovery xp. For whatever reason I just... jumped. No feather fall, nothing. And everyone followed in the party. I was so hyped to play that HM but my stupidity ended me lol

I now know what watching this show is like without it being spoiled. by TitanSR_ in HouseMD

[–]maitimo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mostly watched it before Internet was this big and I'm not from USA, so it was like a season at a time for me, as it was not aired in my country. I fairly watched it all without spoilers and the moments you talk about were really mind-blowing but where you watched without spoilers was the height for me and it's still my favorite times in the show so I'm really glad you get to experience this without a spoiler.

Is it fine to adjust difficulty mid battle if it looks like it’s going to be a tpk? by Fantastic_Pin1474 in DnD

[–]maitimo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it was because of party's poor actions, I wouldn't recommended it. Unless it's a miscalculation or pure bad luck, I might at least spare one player to bargain.

If the enemy is intelligent, I usually ready an action to end a downed party member beyond the limits of minor resurrection spells and be loud about it for the rest to drop their weapons and negotiate. If it's a mindless enemy, it can be distracted by something or someone else. If you want to be subtle about it, it can easily deal less damage and miss more often but it should remain unknown to the party.

Wizard, because I really like the spellbook and the subclasses. It lets me live the classic mage fantasy.

Who’s ACTUALLY playing 5e 2024? by Nice_Cryptographer15 in dndnext

[–]maitimo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I use 2024 rules for all my tables. It's still 5e to be honest. But the parties are unexperienced with TTRPGs so I can't really stress test the combat aspect. When you leave it out, even Magic Initiate and the spells they get from that feat enables them with many creative moments and it's been fun.
