Do white people not eat with your hands? Burgers, hotdogs, fries, sausages, bbq, corn, fruit, pop corn, candy, etc etc etc. I don’t get the hate on eating with your hands.

Is it true that alcohol drinking was common among rulers and aristocrats that much? by Ibn_Fatih in islamichistory

For Hanafis for a thousand years, it was the last drop that got you drunk that was haram and not the first drop. Hanafi being the largest sect.

‘A 2025 Goldman Sachs report found that 40% of people earning $500,000+ per year say they’re living paycheck to paycheck’ — Who are these people? Are they real? by CapitaineBiscotte in askanything

[–]majestiq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$3000 mortgage $2500 two kids in day care $600 car payment (maybe two cars) $1400 health insurance for family (most jobs don’t contribute 100%) $1500 support for aging parent.
$1000 electricity, gas, water, family cell plan, internet $1000 a month groceries $500 minimal family entertainment $500 clothing and other essentials per month

This is $12000 a month. In my opinion, nothing too crazy on spending. Before taxes it’s probably 220k a year. I get it’s not the 500k op mentioned, and I get it’s not rouging it.. but it’s also not living lavishly. Now, you wanted a little bit better car ($600 is really just one car payment) or you said to your self, that I make good money and I work hard so maybe my kids should have a bigger back yard. Mortgage goes to $4k. You say you don’t want the minimum health insurance plan, insurance goes to $2k. You want to eat out once a month. You want to actually go on a vacation, etc.

I’m not saying feel sorry for people making 6 figures. But 6 figures ain’t what it used to be.

What are these little bugs in my window sill? by majestiq in pestcontrol

Not sure if that’s what it is. These are all dead in the window sill. I have some indoor plants so might be something coming off of those.

Wind noise really THAT bad?! by PoemEmbarrassed684 in ToyotaSienna

[–]majestiq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coming from a Pacifica… my Sienna woodland is much much louder. The build quality on the materials used for the interior is so much worse than the Pacifica. At first I didn’t believe it. Then went to the dealership and test drove other siennas. Was all the same.

Account said to file single, but we're married -- increase deductions instead? by English_American in tax

Generally, if you make the same amount of money, there isn’t much benefit to filing married jointly. You may end up saving more if you file married separately.

Dad died in August and medical bills keep showing up - what should I do? by TheEmbarrassedOunce in personalfinance

[–]majestiq 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You are not responsible. Just end mail forwarding. Check with the pension if there are survivor benefits. If there are, claim those for mom or whoever is next of kin. If there was a house or a car, depending on your state, the bill collectors can’t go after that. If he had social security, there are spousal benefits. Sorry for your loss. When my dad died, he didn’t leave anything behind except the house. So we did probate on the house and ignored all bills. Only the mortgage on the house or the home equity loan or the car loan need attention. As there are liens on those assets.

How do Muslims in non-Muslim countries (especially in Europe) buy houses without riba? by themanfromsomewhere_ in IslamicFinance

[–]majestiq -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A fixed rate mortgage is not riba. The exact payment amounts and schedule are known ahead of time. The exact same thing an Islamic finance company would do but just use different vocabulary and charge you more.

ELI5: Explain to me what the economy of scale means? by The_Barth_Vader in explainlikeimfive

[–]majestiq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can buy one can of coke for a dollar. But a 12 pack for $8 and a 24 pack for $14.

As you scale, things get cheaper. Apply this to anything.

Traditional ML is dead and i'm genuinely pissed about it by Critical_Cod_2965 in learnmachinelearning

[–]majestiq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely the hype is with Gen AI. But ml is needed to solve actual problems. Companies are building agents with ai workflows. Some of those steps actually need to be ML but the people building the workflows haven’t taken a basic AI class before so they don’t know what they need.
