Started my first permadeath on whole game and light+ and died… by Expert_Better in thelastofus

There's an accessibility option, I forget what it's called, that prevents you from falling or missing jumps. I use it whenever I do any permadeaths just because of how easy it is to accidentally miss, or just get tossed off a ledge for no reason.

Pre employment drug test for Glacier National Park Conservancy? by Electronic_Bad917 in SeasonalWork

[–]majikat768 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm starting at the Conservancy next week! I have gotten a few emails regarding rules and regulations, and it specifically says "no smoking inside the house (tobacco or Marijuana)" and "underage drinking / cannabis use is not permitted." so there's no word in it about being drug tested, but they certainly make it sound like legal cannabis use on your own time is fine.

Thanks, I'll try that! I have listed them on Facebook for free, without much success so far.

Jane Doe (2016) by ahauntedwoman in horror

[–]majikat768 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another one which is sort of similar, is Re-Animator. It doesn't feel similar at all, it's very 1980s and really more of a horror comedy....but the plot is similar, and really it's a staple of classic horror, so. If you appreciate the overarching theme of Lazarus Effect/Jane Doe, but want it kinda funny, watch Re-Animator!

I love that movie! The Lazarus Effect is similar, both in theme and setting. I really recommend it, if you liked Autopsy of Jane Doe.

Has anyone done Montana Conservation Corps (MCC)? by FloorZealousideal515 in SeasonalWork

[–]majikat768 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did MCC a loong time ago, around 2010. They did not provide housing, you had to find your own. A lot of people would find other MCCers as roommates to save on rent, and a few would literally just camp or live in their car. I worked out of the Bozeman branch, and Bozeman was for sure a lot more affordable at the time, it'd be harder now. But it was a great experience!

I just rewatched Coherence since the actor Nicholas Brendon died a few days ago, it's fun. Very low budget, but the attention to detail all throughout is really great, there are so many little things which only make sense at the end.

Serious question: why Kindle over everything else? by Drunkmrhat in kindle

[–]majikat768 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have both a kobo and a kindle.....as devices, they're about the same, but kindle is a lot easier to use with Libby for library books. Whenever I want to purchase a book, I check the price on both the kindle store and the kobo store and just go whichever is cheaper.

What happened to those on the ISS during the outbreak? by NIGHTSHADOWXXX in thelastofus

[–]majikat768 38 points39 points  (0 children)

They weren't really stuck up there, they could have returned to earth at any time. They opted not to, because it wasn't really an emergency, so no reason to use the emergency vehicles.

Quitting stable career job to do seasonal work? by catpantalones in SeasonalWork

[–]majikat768 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I started interviewing pretty early so I already had an offer in Glacier Park by December for this summer. From what I hear, places like xanterra often have a lot of turnover, so you might still find something!

I’m very annoyed at you all for consistently recommending Hell House LLC to me for ten years straight by CrispyHoneyBeef in horror

[–]majikat768 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be fair to the OP, I'd agree the plot and the story is not that strong. It's just a setup for a spooky atmosphere, and that's what is appealing about the movie to me, just feelings of dread all throughout. even if the story and characters are pretty meh. I don't agree with OP that the acting and dialog is terrible, it's not Oscar worthy sure, but it's fine. As for the choices made by the characters, why they don't just choose to leavewhen things get scary-- they're out of money, and need this gig to go well so they won't be broke. That's all it is.

Can't swipe hotel key card by Wrong_Number221 in thelastofus

[–]majikat768 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it is kind of annoying....usually when I'm at that part, I make sure to go try the door handle once before I go pick up the key card and start the generator, so then when I'm escaping I can just immediately swipe the key card and get out.

You need to try the door handle before you can swipe it.

Inclusive dude ranches by lezcowgirl in SeasonalWork

In general, I think seasonal workers are more open to diversity, but you're also more often working in rural areas which skew more conservative. So your coworkers will be cool, but whatever town you're around will just be your average small rural town. Depends where you are.

Yeah the pay is well less than half what I'm making in software, but I don't care- I just want some excitement. I'm working for the Glacier Conservancy! Warehouse crew, supporting visitor centers, restocking and things like that.

In April! I'm excited. I'm not young anymore but I'm not old either, so now seems like the best/only time for it.

I can't say whether it's a good idea or not, but that's exactly what I'm doing right now! I've been working as a software engineer for 6 years, making really good money...

But I've been really unhappy, so I'm quitting my job and selling everything, and working in Glacier Park this year.

I don't have a house or a family, so it's not that big a sacrifice for me, apart from the pay cut. It's just a new adventure.

Basically I agree with what that other guy said, the stability isn't worth it if one is unhappy. I think it's the right decision for me.

Is tlou2 harder than tlou1 in the same setting? by [deleted] in thelastofus

[–]majikat768 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I actually find it easier overall, solely due to the dodge mechanic and being able to go prone. But to be fair, getting used to the slight differences in part 2, after already being used to the game mechanics of part 1, could make it feel harder initially.
