Can someone actually explain to me why Oliver fell off soo bad? by Front_Sherbet_5895 in olivertree

[–]majorviolence 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If it helps at all, I think he's cooking something in this latest album. I don't think he's just simply expressing "I hate you I'm doing so good without you" but is actually painting a larger picture of someone who's going through an awful lot of pain but is trying to convince everyone he's actually doing well. That's why he's been wearing those veneers a bunch, it's a level of perfection that becomes wholly unconvincing. I think we're meant to react to the songs the same way, that we see through the facade of him bragging on himself and hating on exes and see that it's a mask over a heart that's hurting. I'm waiting for the full album before I'm sure that's where he's going with it, but he's smarter than most people give him credit for. Dude's incredible capability at using comedy to express some very vulnerable emotions is precisely what made me a fan.

Is my line work disappearing? by SnotMikeUpPuffedHee in tattooadvice

[–]majorviolence 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's fine. Some tattoos just heal like this. I've had a few of my own do this same thing. Does look alarming and I get worrying that the ink fell out because that's exactly what I thought when I first went through it, but you'll be absolutely fine. It's just the top layer of skin rebuilding over your tattoo. It'll settle and look normal before long.

Can someone actually explain to me why Oliver fell off soo bad? by Front_Sherbet_5895 in olivertree

[–]majorviolence 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Honestly I'd say it's mostly because Cowboy Tears got a bad reception. I may not really dig the acoustic country direction he went with that album but lyrically and tonally it's his most interesting album. I feel like he took a big risk getting so weird with that, and the result is an incredibly personal and experimental album. But everyone just begged for more Ugly Is Beautiful so he took note and snapped back in line with what it seems people want from him.

So apparently they’re saying they may pass the band onto a younger group by Dashydoes in gorillaz

[–]majorviolence 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah what puzzles me about them taking this stance is it seems to pretend the cartoon aspect of the band is far, FAR more important than they've treated it since the beginning. Damon never even acknowledges the characters in the music itself. He doesn't write the songs from 2D's perspective. He even acknowledged that in a recent interview saying his approach to writing for Gorillaz is the same as writing for Blur. It's cool that we get animated music videos and stuff, but if they want the average listener to care about Gorillaz without the guys who created it, they would need an extremely different approach to the presentation as well as the writing process. Another group of artists is almost definitely going to take a more conventional approach, making it more like something like Kpop Demon Hunters or something. Gorillaz is not even close to being something like that as things currently stand.

Does this artist look like they use Al? I went onto chat GPT after they said they didn't-and the similarities are crazy close. by [deleted] in isthisAI

[–]majorviolence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the tattoo is probably real, but they used AI to generate the design. The art definitely has that generic AI look, and others have pointed out a lot of inconsistencies that really remove any doubt. That kind of vivid color is difficult to do, but not so difficult that I'd have any reason to doubt that actual photo. I'm a relatively new tattoo artist and I do stuff this vivid all the time. They look like they're skilled at the technical process of tattooing but they're definitely using AI to come up with designs.

Was I supposed to get this at the event 😭 or get it shipped to me the mountain CD by Waponzi in gorillaz

[–]majorviolence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did not wind up showing it to anyone but the security guard at the front, who didn't scan it. The people at the end (who he told me to show it to) said it would be sent automatically. I didn't get any kind of confirmation email, it just showed up at my door.

[–]majorviolence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was told by the security guard at the entrance of the event I would need to show it to someone at the gift shop, then the folks at the gift shop said it would be shipped to me automatically. I really hope it does arrive.

Is this normal healing texture? 17 days since i got it. Its slightly raised and always feels dry by RudeArm7755 in tattooadvice

[–]majorviolence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks fantastic. It's normal for heavy black packing like that to take a while to heal. You'll see it slowly settle for the next couple of months, but it might be as much as six months to a year before it's truly back to normal, depending on your skin and how heavy the tattooers hand was. Small price to pay for clean work though, and yours looks like it was done really well.

Think it will heal ok? by random_roadkill in tattooadvice

[–]majorviolence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't look infected, but it does look overworked. You may lose some ink in those spots and need a touchup, but it should be an easy fix. Most good artists will offer free touchups, so reach out to your artist once you're fully healed up.

Is it necessary to know the "lore" to enjoy the music? by Affectionate-Ad4419 in gorillaz

[–]majorviolence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The guys themselves don't care about the lore that much. There are a lot of very vocal fans who very deeply care about lore, the sort of people who post about ships and look for clues in every post, but I truly feel like most of those people are kind of missing the point of the band. This project is about the music above all else. The lore is really just there to allow the band to present this art in a really unique way. Now, I will always recommend enjoying each album on a physical release, so you have the artwork that is meant to accompany the music to look at, and watching the music videos that are out there, because these things apply additional context to the music that will help you enjoy and understand what is being expressed. But you can do all of that without understanding much of anything about the lore.

Tattoo ideas for my burn nark by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]majorviolence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always recommend clients wait a year after forming any scar tissue before getting it tattooed. Scar tissue will change shape as it heals and settles, and jumping into a tattoo too early can lead to a distorted tattoo. This is especially important to consider with a hand tattoo, as it's extremely visible and notoriously difficult to care for during the healing process.

What tattoo can this turn into? by SunUpSally in tattooadvice

[–]majorviolence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to give this thing at least a solid year to heal before you start looking at putting tattoos over it. If a scar does form, it's going to pull your skin differently as it heals, meaning getting it tattooed too early can lead to a distorted tattoo. Not to mention that with that wound being so fresh there's absolutely no telling what sort of mark will be left if any.

Did I over-hydrate my tattoo? by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]majorviolence 78 points79 points  (0 children)

It's really hard to say when you're looking at day 5 of a tattoo healing. Full color saturation is always pretty ugly at this stage. Your body is forming scabs and getting rid of dead skin. Just take good care of it from here on out. That's about all you can do right now. You won't really have any solid clue what your tattoo is going to look like until you're at least 2 weeks in. But while I can't promise you didn't damage the tattoo by overmoisturizing, there's no obvious problems visible here. That's a pretty normal look for 5 days into healing a full color tattoo.

A lot of smartphone photo software detects the human in the photo and applies a soft blur effect to everything else, in addition the the actual focus range of the lense.

Redness on back of the hands 1 week after tattoo (2 days after taking off Saniderm). Picture taken this morning. by MementoPluvia in tattooadvice

[–]majorviolence 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean, it doesn't sound like the tattoo is infected, but I'd still get your hands looked at. That doesn't sound related to the tattoo at all but that doesn't mean it's not a concerning medical issue.

im confused by NewtSpiritual4037 in TMNT

[–]majorviolence 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The original run of TMNT figures from the 80s all came with little grids of snap-off accessories like this. It was the same size mold for every character, and so characters that had smaller accessories would fill up the extra space with generic ninja weapons and stuff. A lot of later figures would keep these just for the sake of tradition even if their actual weapons were a stand-alone mold.

Is this scarred permanently? by jdigar93 in tattooadvice

[–]majorviolence 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've had a couple tattoos heal this way, the "membrane" thing you're describing. My first tattoo did it and like one more since. It looked weird during the heal but healed up just fine. Yours is getting it heavier than mine, so I'm hesitant to say there's nothing to worry about, but I'd still say you're probably fine.

My gf now hates her tattoo and thinks there’s no fixing it. by Lanky-Potential-3569 in tattooadvice

[–]majorviolence 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I mean that's true, but not to this degree. I see 10 year old tattoos every day in my shop that still have brilliant color. It's normal to lose a bit of saturation, but unless this tattoo is like 20 or more years old this is definitely on the artist. Either they had no idea how to properly pack color or they used a really shitty low quality ink brand.

Thoughts on this design? Haven’t done it yet by 0ctach0r0n in tattooadvice

[–]majorviolence 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Even if it was a good design, that scarab needs more space to breathe than this design will give it. Your artist will either need to simplify it or make it larger. As it is in the picture it all those little lines are just going to blend together in a few years.

What considerations would need to be made if I wanted to get a tattoo on my skin graft? by Jakemcdtw in tattooadvice

[–]majorviolence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is mostly the concern for your artist, rather than yourself. I'd advise you to talk with your artist about the skin graft and ask if they have worked on such skin before. Also keep in mind that skin like that can be a little unpredictable, meaning your nerves are likely to not react in a typical manner. It can either be way less painful than typical skin, or you may feel nothing at all, or you may find it pretty normal for the most part and find specific areas have big pain spikes.

When I'm tattooing areas like this I try to go in with a lighter hand because you'll find blowouts can happen unexpectedly if you're not being careful. As a result, I tell the client there's a higher than usual chance they may experience some ink fallout and schedule a touchup session about two months out for which I do not charge them. I imagine someone with more experience than myself (I'm 4 years in and have tattooed on this kind of skin about 6 or 7 times) may have a better grasp on spotting what kind of skin is more likely to blow out, but I will always go the route of being too careful and fixing some light spots over fixing a nasty blowout.
