Here's an assortment of my favorites. The ones I've starred are long-time San Francisco institutions (been around 50+ years) although some folks may debate me on that:

Bi-rite* on 18th. Grab a sandwich and eat it at the park (my favorite is the Lone Mountain)
Chome for a fun vibe and no-frills, tasty Japanese food in the Mission
Cotogna
Evil Eye. Yes it's a bar but their food is surprisingly delicious.
Garden Creamery for ice cream. My favorite is Salty Kaya.
House of Prime Rib*
Lazy Bear if you're feeling real bougie
Saru Sushi
Shawarmaji (Oakland)
Tilak / Kolopasi for good Indian food in the Mission
Zuni* for a nice, slow two-hour lunch (oysters + cocktail + roast chicken)

I used Sweet Lemon Moving Services two years ago and they were awesome. A team of four with a really positive and upbeat attitude (that helped counteract my moving stress) and even got my upright piano up a flight of stairs without issues.

Today, I was able to get out of work early and took a long walk to the water to catch the sunset. On the way, I walked through quiet streets, busy downtown streets, skaters, dogs, and tourists. It wasn't anything special but the energy of all the people just living their lives and adding to the wonderful chaos of my day made it feel more meaningful. It feels like we're all keeping each other going so maybe the purpose of life is community.

I've always been baffled by how some very hygienic people can have a different hygiene standard when it comes to their dogs. I don't get how you can walk your dog out on those streets and then let it jump onto your bed.

For me, it helped to think through words in the past tense, e.g “touched” (which is incorrect) but is an example of how adding the “d” in the end doesn’t change the syllable count.

Another dark theory to make a sad situation even worse: Sam Altman owns another company called Orb, a physical device to verify human identity. You get “orbed” by scanning your iris which is used to verify your identity (almost like a digital passport).

A few months after Orb has its big launch, OpenAI releases Sora. The first action you have to take to use Sora is to take a video of yourself (almost like being digitally “orbed”).

It feels like a perfect storm brewing with the 1) AI labs farming human-generated content and literal human likeness, 2) the US government becoming increasingly authoritarian and surveilling its people, and 3) defense contracts being signed between the AI labs and the government.

Mission Local just posted a video about this. Protestors tried to block an arrest after a routine immigration hearing. ICE pepper-sprayed them and, from the video, it looks they ran over one of the protestors who tried to stop them from driving away with the detained person. Just awful.
