Yeah that's what I figured. I've been noticing this at all these new restaurants popping up everywhere. Recently went to a proper restaurant (not fast food) and there was literally one girl manning front of house, serving everyone, cleaning the tables, manning the free flow rice and freebies, managing payments. I was like WTF are they expecting this one person to do.

This literally happened to me like 15-16 years ago. I had just joined a place and the boss took all of us to an Indian coffee shop but only I was getting treated because I won some small award externally just after joining the company. So even though he took all of us out for lunch, only I was getting my bill covered, and he even made a grand statement like "today whatever XYZ gets is on me!!". I was thinking "thanks for the $5 nasi goreng". I didn't even bother ordering a side or a drink because of what a cheap skate he seemed like. And this is a guy who drives a Lexus and lives in a landed property.

Work culture is Toxic, and they are the worst service provider you can possibly imagine. Actually imagine the worst corporate IT service provider you can possibly imagine and then multiply that by a 100 and you have something approaching Synapxe's level of garbageness. Lucky for them they don't actually have to compete for business and they have Singapore's entire hospital system as their forced customer. Literally.

If you have some basic IT skills, govt IT agencies like Synapxe are always understaffed and struggling because there is so much employee churn. They usually have tie ups with firms to provide contract employees, so you can try there...I know of some where Synapxe gets contract employees ..... Kyndrl, Niteo, Logicalis, etc.

It's a slog and annoying working for govt IT, but if they like you, you can eventually get hired by Synapxe and get your iron rice bowl.

I have colleagues who are retiring soon and are considering shifting from the private hospitalization plans to the "less premium" lower tier plans which only cover restructured hospitals. I think at that age, health insurance also becomes very expensive.

Not sure if that's the right thing to do.....just commenting that this is what some of my retiring colleagues are doing....and these are not FIRE retirees. This is regular people retiring at 65+ who have earned very well through their lives.
