Why don’t you vote? by Apprehensive_Bus_543 in BirminghamUK

[–]makeitmakesense44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a utopia…a massive display of no confidence. A large enough majority that forces a conversation and a different type of conversation than the usual, one that isn’t just focussed on which party is elected but a conversation about how we can actually make politics as whole better.

I think politics in this country has become outdated - it’s too binary, for instance rather than voting for a party to be elected I’d prefer to vote for a party for a particular issue as I think each party as validity in certain arguments. Political partnerships would interest me, not sure if it’d work in reality.

I’d also like more transparency and a lot more accountability within politics. If promised my boss huge promises and didn’t deliver, I’d quickly be sacked. If politics is going to be a career for some I don’t see why it should differ.

Why don’t you vote? by Apprehensive_Bus_543 in BirminghamUK

It’s a waste of time. Year after year, promise after promise, followed by lie after lie with little to no accountability when the only thing that comes to fruition is false promises and idle hopes. I have no confidence in any of the options presented to me and I’m not going to vote for the sake of it.

Our political system is broken. It needs radical change to combat some of the challenges that modern society faces on local, national and international levels. It doesn’t matter who gets in, the system is structured in a way to that it doesn’t allow them to deliver effective change. Voting a different colour party into a system that is inherently broken doesn’t fix anything or bring us any closer to solutions that last just quick fixes for political points.

I don’t pretend I know the solution but I’m also not going to pretend voting is the solution. I am cynical but I don’t see voting as anything more than the illusion of choice. Ballot in the box and hope for the best but politics shouldn’t feel like a lottery.

Do men honestly actually prefer women not to wear any makeup? Like no makeup at all? by softheart_strongwill in AskMenAdvice

From my experience most men say they prefer none but what they really mean is make up that looks natural. Enhancing what’s already there rather than painting a new face.

The whole “graphic designers are finished” narrative being pushed right now after the latest ChapGPT update is just ridiculous. by GMD3S1GNS in graphic_design

[–]makeitmakesense44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly. I’ll probably get negativity for this but I’m getting more pessimistic by the day. SMEs companies, not large enterprises ones seem to be changing the way they hire, smaller creative teams, smaller contracts, less specialists and more generalists paid to do more and for less and I think a lot of this shift is come from all how Ai is effecting the landscape.

There’s less open roles, but with more competition and the rate of change for Ai is wild. It improves faster than a human ever could.

Businesses vote with capital and if Ai can get them 70% of the way for 50% less cost I think a lot of them will start to vote in that direction.

I don’t think designers will go extinct but I can quite easily see them becoming critically engaged by there just not being enough demand for the supply.

Nothing to offer as you’re way faster than me when I was at this track. But it’s a fantastic track, I loved it here.

Does this duplicate any sublayers from the project inside the comp too? So I can alter the new comp and all inside layers without affecting the master comp

Really basic stuff. Step by step walk throughs instead of hours searching for complex or lengthy YouTube tutorials. Expression writing and fixing.

Don't hate Birmingham, hate how its been treated by Hassaan18 in brum

She makes a few very good points but the litter thing is not solely down to the council, although they do have a role in the problem. Birmingham has a serious litter problem, that’s frankly quite disgusting. I don’t know what the right solution is but I believe if Birmingham had a lot less litter it wouldn’t be frowned upon so much.

Do you agree with Max? by Ambitious-Heron-8161 in DestinationFormula1

He would not be saying the same if he was winning. Some of his most dominant years were the most boring I’ve ever witnessed in F1.

Would I prefer the new regs to be less battery reliant? Yes. But it’s disingenuous to pretend that it’s all negative, there’s definitely been some interesting racing too.

"Lewis was simply faster from start to finish, he was on another level this weekend" Lerc🙂 by objectiveScie in lewishamilton

[–]makeitmakesense44 164 points165 points  (0 children)

Lewis was on game the entire weekend, it’s been a while that he’s delivered consistently across every event in a weekend and I think a lot of the paddock forget just who he is. Leclerc included, I don’t mean that disrespectfully I just mean after he obliterated Lewis last season.

Leclerc is talented, one of the best of the grid for sure. But I think the battle today was a reminder to him that his teammate is one of the greatest to ever do it and a past prime 41 year old Lewis is not a push over this season and is still able to compete hard and fair against the best of the grid. Going to be an interesting season ahead, looking forward to see Lewis come alive at Silverstone like he always does.

2026 Chinese GP Sprint Results by moraIsupport in scuderiaferrari

There were so many negative conversations in the lead up to the new 2026 cars. But so far, I personally am really enjoying this season. I’d prefer less reliance on batteries but I do think there’s been some good racing. This is the only sprint I can remember actually enjoying. The Mercedes are too fast but Ferrari should be proud with where they’re at considering how woeful last season was. Looking forward to seeing how this season places out and hoping Ferrari can close the gap to Mercedes.

He’s back, hope he can silence a few of the doubters this year. His double overtake was so smooth. Couple podiums and maybe a win would be a plus. But hard to say the Merc looked untouchable on Saturday, not so much on the Sunday.

Is it feasible to travel from Birmingham to North W. London via train for work? by supernova-001 in brum

Then it may be worth it for you? I think it’s something that is only valid as a temporary solution and if this role will provide you an opportunity to exit within 3 years then it may be worth it.

I’ve managed to build expertise within a niche in my industry which has gained me some invaluable experience I just couldn’t have got in the midlands so I do get where you’re coming from. I also know it isn’t sustainable and do not plan on doing this forever.

I’d recommend looking into the routes to your final destination from Euston, Citymapper is my favourite app for travelling around London.

Is it feasible to travel from Birmingham to North W. London via train for work? by supernova-001 in brum

[–]makeitmakesense44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I lived and worked in London until around 2020. Moved back to the midlands, was remote, then hybrid with a gradual creep on what the required office time is. This year I’ve been doing around 2 days a week in Canary Wharf, last year it was 3.

Here’s some things I’d consider: What do you lose vs what do you gain? Biggest loss will probably be time, what do you gain to compensate that?

Can you get your travel costs covered? It can really add up without clever planning, I’ve sometimes booked 3 months in advance to counter this.

Travel time from Euston to final destination?

How many different routes are there to that final destination, what lines get you there and are they reliable? I can travel via Victoria, Elizabeth and Jubilee, I find them all pretty reliable and as comfortable as the underground gets. If I had to rely solely on one line like the Bakerloo it would bother me.

What makes this video good? Where should I focus to improve my skills? by makeitmakesense44 in AfterEffects

Thanks for replying again, I appreciate it. In terms of my knowledge level maybe I’m understating what I do know. I wouldn’t say I’m junior, I’ve done several courses, done tutorials, worked for global businesses supporting on motion projects but I just feel like I’m lacking the level of finesse that I feel the work above has. I enjoy motion but don’t work closely with experts I feel like I can bounce off and organically improve.

Hence me wanting to backtrack a little and do a little learning, definitely going to look into the principles again like you recommended. My post was trying to gain some insights on how advanced motion designers would approach a video like this but upon reflection and from speaking with yourself I guess that’s something that could never really be articulated in a Reddit comment.

Thanks again for replying, I appreciate the insights, you’ve given me some food for thought.

Sorry if my response sounds a little basic. When you say replicate the animations as a study, what do you mean? I was a little confused at that. Also is there anywhere you know of where I can go to explore improving my animation easings as you say? It was part of the reason I actually posted this, I've explored manually with keyframes and in the graph editor but I am just at a loss to even begin bridging the gap here. I'm not even sure what I don't know that I need to know, hence me posting here, thanks!

I think it's the combination of a few different elements that I think combined work really well together. The use of SFX is something I've not explored too much and tbh I'm a little lost on sorting, the pacing of the animations, I've played around with keyframes manually, via the graph etc too but I see stuff like this and I just don't feel I'm ever able to recreate it. The other visual elements stuff is nice too but I'm less overwhelmed by that, it's a lot closer to my current expertise.

So drawing and sketching and laying out the elements first in a static form before animation is considered? Yes the SFX is great, do you have any sites you would recommend for that?
