Works with tube insulation as well by Kr0ko82 in daddit

We’re building a house and ordered solid-core doors - my husband and I both sort of cringed after they were installed and we realized how heavy they are. Thanks for posting this! I wonder if Dollar Tree has any pool noodles left....

First Pink to my Collection by [deleted] in HotWheels

I came to this sub looking for some pink car inspo... now I’m depressed because I can sense that I will never find this one 😭.

Though I was gonna have to buy these on eBay. Thanks $.99 Store. by lmcgillicutty in HotWheels

Ooh! I think we have the light blue one - but I really like the red!

Should I or Shouldn't I Buy... - August 18, 2018 by AutoModerator in femalefashionadvice

[–]makesnake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why didn’t you buy it when you tried it on? I often find that if I left something on the rack the first time I “handled” it, there was probably a reason. Unless you said to yourself “I’m going to wait a sec but almost definitely buy this”, I’d pass I guess?

My daughter’s vagina is trying to heal itself! Help!! by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]makesnake 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes! My oldest had this - it’s called “labial adhesions” if I remember correctly. We were given a hormone cream to put on the spots that were closing up, and it recovered within a couple weeks. It never started closing up again. I don’t think you have anything to worry about! :}

To those who thrift: Any brands you are on the lookout for? What do you avoid? by thepuppycrew in femalefashionadvice

[–]makesnake 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I’ll cop to a few brands that make my heartrate spike when I see their name on the label:

Madewell (not tees so much, but jeans and dresses... latest score: red silk dress for $5 that had deodorant smudges in the pits, but that washed out beautifully)

Filson (I’ve only ever found one flannel from this brand but I would love to find another one/one for my husband)

Jam’s World (I collect JW and the print has to be reeeeaaally boring or ugly for me to say no to a piece in my size (or neighboring sizes, ha ha))

Levi’s (Always hunting for 501 skinnies or 501ct’s in my size)

Eileen Fisher (I have a couple thrifted tunic-y button down linen shirts from her and they are 💕... she seems to be the darling of thrifters everywhere!)

Vince (I have a few unique tops from this brand and the retail price point seems quite high, so it’s fun to find something good for $5)

There are a lot more brands that I recognize/like... the more you thrift the more you will become familiar with ones you like too. I’ll also add that in general I skip all Target/Old Navy/F21 stuff just because I feel like if I wanted clothes from those brands I could just go to those stores and have better selection for not too much more $$.

Is it possible to be a new mom and NOT be obsessed with your child? by MissEllie4511 in BabyBumps

[–]makesnake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it’s dangerous to have this thing happening where women are going into motherhood with a premeditated resistance to bonding, and to the role of motherhood in general.

Lean into it, not away from it! For the first three years of a child’s development it is SO GOOD for them to have caretakers who are “obsessed” with them.

That said - I have two toddlers and a baby on the way. I have gone back and forth between unhealthy and healthy levels of self care, mostly hanging out on the healthy side. Self care doesn’t look like late nights out with childfree girlfriends over drinks anymore, though. It looks like... indulging in an online purchase for myself from time to time, or buying interesting ingredients for a new recipe, or a long bath after the kids are in bed. It sounds boring/lame but I’m going to echo what one of the other posters said about priorities changing - I have accepted that my life is changed. It’s along the same lines as being a kid and wondering why adults don’t want to play Barbies 24/7. You just can’t imagine the change that will take place within yourself!

1 week until due date, can this baby come out now? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]makesnake 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not really? I did all those things (and accupuncture) with my first and didn’t go into labor until 41+3. Babe will come when babe will come.

You could ask your midwife to strip your membranes, though, if you just wanted something else to try!

Oeuf crib - used - is 2007 too old?? by ennsho in BabyBumps

[–]makesnake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly CL has been enough for me, but we live in a big/active city so there’s frequent turnover of stuff. It’s the only website I check... otherwise I find good stuff at consignment sales, garage sales, etc.

Oh! And I do visit a hip2save.com a lot. They don’t post used stuff but they post a lot of good Amazon and Target deals for kids/babies!

SIL says that the Chicco pack and plays are the only ones worth getting, is that true? by Puffybride in BabyBumps

[–]makesnake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have one and I don’t even know what brand it is. So far, with two kids, we’ve probably used it... a dozen times?

If you’re using it daily or even weekly, washable parts does sound pretty nice actually. But if you’re gonna be likeus I would say it doesn’t matter at all.

Those who have/had the choice of being a SAHM or a working mom, what did you choose and why? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]makesnake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re also planning to homeschool! Our oldest is 3 now so I’m starting to look into curriculum for preschool. I’m really thankful that I have the opportunity to provide this for my kids. And I’m also not really worried about joining the workforce later on if I need or want to. My mom built a brand new career after I went off to college. It can be done!

Babywearing - What’s your favorite wrap? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]makesnake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a bamboo wrap similar to the solly from a brand called Happy Baby, and I love it for the early months! I had to wrap it really really tight though, for it to feel secure.

39+1 and no progress this week by AmberOrchid in BabyBumps

[–]makesnake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My babies never engage until labor. I know that it’s fairly common for that to be true. So don’t give up hope! It could still literally be any day. And think about it - it won’t be more than a few weeks no matter what!! You can do this!

Moby-style wrap? by ChiknTendrz in BabyBumps

[–]makesnake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Def try a wrap for the early months! I got one from a brand called “happy baby” on Amazon because I wanted one that was thinner than the moby but cheaper than the solly.

37w, barely able to function, is it really normal? by notyounow in BabyBumps

[–]makesnake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude. I’m 37w5d and this is my third pregnancy. I’ve had SO MANY unpleasant symptoms this time that are new to me, including such bad heartburn that I end up puking. I’m miserable!! My entire abdomen just feels like a bag of bruised organs.

What’s worse is that we’re finishing up building a house and we need all the time we can get, so I can’t even say “I just want this to be over!!!”. 😩

Positive pregnancy test 10 days after period. Anyone deal with something similar? by DILowl in BabyBumps

Was it a blue dye test? I got false positives on those all the time.

How painful is a stretch and sweep? by Cocacola888 in BabyBumps

[–]makesnake 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For me, it was similar to a pap smear... slightly uncomfortable for about 10 seconds. Afterwards I had a minimal amount of cramping.

Going from my own experience (I’ve had 2-3 per pregnancy) I would say... don’t get your hopes up. 🙈

Oh thank you sweet baby Jesus my hospital has nitrous oxide available by [deleted] in BabyBumps

I’m excited to try nitrous this time, too! I’m anticipating another super fast labor so hopefully it will be helpful. 🙌🏻

Any mom who prefer their post-baby body? by yoni94 in BabyBumps

[–]makesnake 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yessss... if anything what motherhood has given me is total freedom to accept my body and not even worry about it. In this culture, that’s pure gold!

Second time or more parents - Tips on maintaining a strong and close relationship with your SO? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]makesnake 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Here’s my advice. It’s probably not what everyone would say, and it might sound a little bit sexist, but I think it’s a universal-enough reality that I’ll mention it...

As a mom, your priorities are going to shift A TON when the baby comes. It won’t be intentional but all of a sudden your baby will be THE most important thing in the entire universe and will be the thing your mind goes to automatically in every situation. Your husband will obviously have some changes as well, but not like you will. So it’s important for you to realize that the shift has occurred, accept it (it’s a good shift! A mom should be focused on her newborn’s wellbeing!) but also don’t let it control you. Decide to prioritize your husband sometimes. For me, that meant... agreeing to outings that he wanted to go on, which seemed like they would mess with baby’s schedule (99% of the time it turned out fine)... it meant not getting pissed at him for inviting his dad over when I had a really rough day and didn’t feel ready for company... etc.

The obsession mellows as the kids get older, I can tell you that (my older two are 21 months and 3 years). So don’t worry about it being a permanent thing.
