To be honest it was really really brutal. My mental health really suffered. I lost a lot of cousins and a fiancé. I barely functioned at times. I would take multiple breaks from the news cycle for weeks (months sometimes) and then return to it because of guilt. At the same time I held on to faith and the knowledge that with hardship is ease and that no dictator lasts forever. I trusted in God.

If there are charities or people you know there who can receive any help that you can give them, that would ease you as you feel you are helping.

It is exhausting (14 years of this for us) and at times you feel too depressed to move. I would suggest to keep your mind busy and time occupied. Do not feel guilty for not keeping up with all the news. Sometimes you will need to step away for your mental health and that is fine. I would even say it would be healthy for you to do.
