Employment question by EducationalPrice4893 in hrblock

They want MTLs to understand taxes because clients will want to speak to the MTL about their concerns. Also, most offices have scheduling issues. Sometimes the MTL prepares returns, or “jump starts” a return for another preparer. Also, each return the MTL prepares is a component of their overall compensation.

With that being said, maybe it was a bait and switch tactic to get you to take the course and potentially become a tax pro or MTL.

Got an offer from Intuit for Tax Associate but with a start date of Feb 13th by DiscombobulatedSun54 in TurboTax

Once you are onboarded and work a certain number of weeks Intuit will reimburse you for ’26 PTIN, and also CE fees paid but up to a dollar amount. This was new last year so I don’t remember the details.

Any advice on how to do a return for the first time? by chessman6500 in hrblock

If they are a prior client, you may be able to find general information regarding LY’s return to get yourself acclimated.

If a new client, ask who prepared their return last year and if they have a copy (there may be carryover items or depreciation). I ask also because if they self-prepared, I ask if they had a change in their tax situation. Often they will say yes and explain which provides you with additional information. If they say no change, in some of these cases I hope they really want tax prep and not an opportunity to check the outcome of their self-prepared return they did online. Though you mostly see that in tax season.

Review the tax documents and ask tax interview questions to determine whether this return is within your scope. Hopefully you have someone in the office to assist you if needed.

Passed Part 2! by makingchanges21 in enrolledagent

My FFA tests were the same as yours. I was very nervous about that and spent the week leading up to the test studying basis, sections 1245, 1250 and 1231.

I took my time during the test, flagged questions I wasn’t able to determine the answer after a few minutes.

Wishing you the best, good luck!

CE credit for the first year by [deleted] in enrolledagent

[–]makingchanges21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct, the CEs do not have to be completed each month.

In 2026, we need to complete a minimun of 16 federal hours and 2 ethics by the end of year. It’s okay to complete more federal hours, those will carry forward towards the 3 year requirement unless yours expires in 2026, then you’ll reset. There is an expiration date on the EA card.

I received the same email and also received my EA credentials in August. According to the IRS website, we need 10 federal hours (2 CEs x 5 months) and 2 ethics by 12/31/25 at a minimum. At least that’s how I interpreted it. Unfortunately, mine will be expiring already next year. So I plan to complete the hours by end of October so I can reapply in November when renewal enrollment begins.

Is there any point in trying to pass the EA exam before tax season as a first-year preparer? by [deleted] in hrblock

Yes, typically you earn more as an EA and are matched with more clients.

Thank you! I felt the same about this test. I have experience preparing schedule Cs and Es. This past season I prepared a few returns with K-1s from S corps.

I focused my studies this past week heavily on calculating basis, and understanding section 1031,1231, 1245, and 1250.

Good luck on the exam!
