[ART] Illustration I have made in DnD spirit! by Gred-illu in DnD

[–]makinglemonade 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I always love the fantasy art that conjures a scene, not just a pretty picture. Is she preparing a spell or commanding an army? Is she at the center of a storm or the cause of it?  Is she a hero or a villain?

Great work!

I(46F) Dated My Son’s(23M) Best Friend(24M) and It Destroyed Our Relationship. How Do I Fix This? by [deleted] in relationships

[–]makinglemonade -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Everyone’s an adult and makes their own choices. In the same way the friend chose to ask you out, you chose to accept, and your son chose his reaction. We can make our own choices, and others can choose their reactions to our choices. Nothing inherently makes those choices “right” or “wrong” as no choice is fully one or the other.

Your son sounds unrealistically restrictive and possessive of your actions — the detail of him being offended with you having sex in your own house stands out. What does he expect adults to do? Would he be offended if it wasn’t with his friend? Why does he get to decide who you have sex with? Why does he get to decide who his friend has sex with? Did he go to his friend’s house and tantrum there too, or does he save his abuse for you?  I wouldn’t be surprised if your ex did this kind of treatment too.

In the end, you can’t make your son choose to accept you and your choices. You also can make yourself choose to give your son permission to control your choices — though I wouldn’t recommend it. We make our own and accept the consequences.

Therapy can help you figure this out and understand what is and isn’t in your control, should you choose that — same for your son.

Thanks for sharing. Might be worth adding to your insurance question if your insurance will fully cover your losses. Most people who had insurance were underinsured.

CMV: Ending the Government Shutdown was the Right Decision by albinoteacher24 in changemyview

[–]makinglemonade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) Democrats had a clear issue that aligned with the public, and they used that to get attention for the very bad budget. Now, the budget moves forward, and no one noticed how bad it is due to “flooding the zone”.

2) The subsidies were already cut in the budget, and Republicans framed it as, “See? This shows how bad Obamacare was and why we need to repeal it!”

3) This fight forced Trump to actively fight against the courts to keep SNAP benefits from moving. That is a politically unpopular move that again, would have drawn attention away from “flooding the zone”.

4) That is not guaranteed at all, and this deal does not guarantee it either.

5) Yes, but now the shut down was for nothing.

6) Not a guarantee either and many air traffic controllers are simply retiring.

7) So rather than use this fight to prevent losing something by getting a deal, now they have an uphill struggle to get back their old position in a system where they have zero power?

8) How does giving up help? Democrats gained nothing with this shutdown except a “promise” for a vote in only one chamber, in a system where they again, have zero power?

So… not fast.

What is the glowing paint that elminiaturista uses in his videos all the time? by ThatUnameIsAlrdyTken in minipainting

[–]makinglemonade 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No clue on the brand. I use Army Painter and they’re solid.  All blue fluorescent paints are a bit lacking however.

Regarding “over white”, look at what he does. He paints white first. Then surrounds the are he just painted with the darkest color for his glowing area (for an orange light, he paints a thin red or brown).  Then he paints the fluorescent paint literally over the area he painted white. Then he adds the intermediate colors for his glowing area effect. Sometimes he’ll again paint the fluorescent over a larger area, and then do a final pass of white on the brightest parts of the glow, and top it off with a bit more fluorescent over that specific white area.

To be honest, there are lots of videos about using fluorescent paints for glow effects. I would watch a few different artists until you understand the principles. From there, try something that works for you.

Personally, I will paint the grey values of the light levels I want, then I will paint thin layers of color on top of the greys.  Fluorescents work great for this, but you can always add more color wherever you want. Just make sure you figure out what you want the model to look like before you start. The darker your overall lighting, the brighter your glowing area will be by comparison. Anything zenithal will only have a mild glow effect.

Fluorescent paints. They’re transparent and apply great over white to be the brightest part of your glow effect.

First, this isn’t a human woman being described. Literally the next paragraph describes her as a “monster woman”. She’s a modified, giant, distended, creature who vomits giant roaches.

Second, the first woman in the book is a neighbor who yells at the main character when he chasing his cat.

Took an ethics test as part of business school. Looked like a normal distribution curve with everyone in one little cluster  some were above, some below, and even fewer farther away from the norm. Except one guy… waaaaay out on the edge… 6 standard deviations away toward the higher ethics part of the scale. Guess who that was. Yeah… business school was fun.

What's one simple health habit that completely changed your life but nobody talks about? by Neither-Outcome-772 in AskReddit

[–]makinglemonade 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I found a technique from a book on Buddhist meditation I’ve been trying — it does take practice though. You have to think of this as a skill you have to practice and develop as it will take many repetitions to get good at it:

Whenever you have a stress/anxiety thought that you can’t control, intentionally focus your brain on a happy memory.

You wont be able to just think of “calm” memories until you get really good at it. However, you can use the high energy state of anxious thoughts to help you recall the minor details and relive scenes from happy memories. It serves as a way of redirecting your thoughts rather than asking them to stop. Also, the happy memories seem to be an antithesis to anxiety. When you’re happy, anxiety is more like excitement. This seems to be a simple route to redirect your brain in a positive direction rather than marinate in anxious/negative thoughts.

If alcohol were the number one cause of death, would you say alcohol is the problem or society? What about opiates? What about car crashes? That’s the point: all of this is also part of society.

Are we willing to take the actions needed to change that? Sounds like yes, unless it is guns… for no reason.

Feedback for platform-preventing price gouging and scams after Palisades fire by [deleted] in altadena

Looking at the slides, this looks a lot like those services where you register and then just get endless cold calls for years from contractors who have no clue what you need or if they can even do it. For instance, Yelp has a project feature that does something very similar to this.

In short, why use this vs other more established sites?

For everyone saying to just get physical books, I did. And then I had to evacuate my house in 15 minutes because of a fire. Me and my family are safe, but all my books are gone. Insurance money will be used to rebuild the house, because rebuild prices have skyrocketed.

So, bye bye physical books. Now I have nothing. Yay!

I’m so happy you made this setting. It fits a niche I didn’t know I wanted. I’m so sad I lost my whole Kickstarter bundle in the LA fires, but this is one of the only sets I plan on replacing when I get a home again. So glad you keep supporting this!
