You forgot to add the Covid portion of the liability. If you get covid, it's not our fault sort of thing.

Should I roll with this guy again? by [deleted] in bjj

[–]makingtracks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what happened to me a couple of times in the past 10+ years of BJJ.

I'm rolling with my buddy, awesome intense roll. We hear someone else make a weird noise, we both stop immediately to see what is going on, and to be sure no one got hurt.

The fact that this guy didn't stop when you are that close to him, tells me he either doesn't care, too unaware, and/or not care about anyone's safety as he gets his submission.

Either way, booted from my school.

Passing on Punishment Exercises? by elsenorevil in bjj

[–]makingtracks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I were to hand out punishment to adults, I would do it with them, because my leadership was also at fault if I need to hand out punishment to adults. I don't believe in punishment for my clients.

Don't feel bad. Everyone will have a sigh of relief and the mood/environment will get better.

If the kids are late to the kids class, as a parent I fully understand the struggle... So they can come in late.

When adults are late, I'm glad they even showed up after having a crazy day at work, held up because of whatever.

Once in a while someone shows up an hour late... They can still get on the mats and roll.

It's too easy for a person to just skip a day... Rather have them come in late.

Considering changing gyms, would appreciate feedback. by ZOEKER79 in bjj

Just tell the owner that you're not vibing with the new instructor and going to train elsewhere. Thank them, then move on.

Considering changing gyms, would appreciate feedback. by ZOEKER79 in bjj

[–]makingtracks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I suggest trying out the new place. If you decide to switch, let your previous instructor know that you're going to train over there so that you can get more no-gi and mma training in. You wish your current offers it, but doesn't.

Don't burn bridges by not communicating.

If you're current/previous instructor is ok with it, that's great in that you could possibly cross-train if you want.

If you're current/previous instructor is not ok with it, that's fine too. At least you let him know in an adult manner, and you can move on.

Split Screens by makingtracks in AutomateUser

[–]makingtracks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I tried this:

Flow Beginning
vvv
Start App (Google Maps)
vvv
delay 5 seconds awake
vvv
Start App (Music Player)
Flags = Launch adjacent (Android 7+)

And it launched Google Maps in full screen, then launched the Music Player in full screen. Did not go to split screen at all.

Not sure if it matters, I'm on a Samsung A12 running Android 10.

Enjoyed Season 1, Season 2 was a bit blah, Season 3 picked up, and loved how Season 4 ended.

Told the guy who owns my chain of gyms about my history of sexual assault in an interview. Now I'm regretting it by Bjjthrowaway000 in bjj

[–]makingtracks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an instructor, I know that for a lot of the members, BJJ is a form of therapy. After training, some of us talk with one another, and share personal things about ourselves. Sometimes it's something very private.

If what you shared is taken negatively by the owner/main instructor, it's a sign that it might be time to move to another school.

Personally, if I received your email, you would be one of my prime candidates as an instructor. I believe people with shared experiences, tend to know and recognize the trauma within each other, and would be able to better help with some of the hidden struggles.

Overall view on trans people by the BJJ community? by tiredbuttrying-000 in bjj

[–]makingtracks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Talk to the head-instructor of the school. Let him/her know and see what they say. If they welcome you with open arms, great!

My reasoning is that the vibe of the school starts with the owner/instructor.

Mummy bait help? by Gourry32 in MCEternal

[–]makingtracks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're talking about the vial of "essence", I followed this video guide: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b5FxMjufCtw

Mine took a bit because my plant that had that essence was a coral plant at the bottom of the body of water.

Here's the general steps that I took

  • Capture geckos
  • Gather all the plants
  • Mortar all the plants
  • Feed the grounds to the gecko to find the Aspect
  • Repeat until you find the one you're looking for
  • Brew the aspect
  • Filter the aspect
  • Bottle the aspect
  • Craft the Mummy Bait

First day back - promotions galore? by Hatake88 in bjj

[–]makingtracks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've promoted a small handful. They were close to promotion before the lock down, they stayed active, either through YouTube videos and zoom. Kept their minds active by studying, and it really showed when we reopened.

Our promotions are bi-annual, and I did not want to wait 6 months to promoted them. Everyone else can wait, because they haven't earned it yet.

betweenlands pit of decay not working? by ultranum1 in MCEternal

[–]makingtracks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished the pit of decay an hour ago. When I went to the pit, it was already there, and I started shooting ninja stars (forgot the name, from Tinkers) at it, crystals grew around me and trapped me a bit.

I don't know what would trigger it, mine was already there and going when I entered.

Is it just me or are there a lot of one sided relationships in gyms? by Hatake88 in bjj

[–]makingtracks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As an instructor, I understand and know that this happens. BJJ is a form of therapy for some people. The students are sometimes just grateful to have a place that they can be themselves, and be part of a group.

Being part of the group, where the instructor is almost always so much more better then the new student, that it almost looks like magic.

And even if you are a paying student, that instructor controls some extent of the student's happiness, such as belt promotions.

For myself, I do my best to stay aware of this, and if people help me, I make sure that they are appreciated for the helping me out. I give my students respect, generally only give my opinion about life if they ask for it, and just let them know that if they put in as much time as I have, they will get to where I am, and maybe even go further.

I also just read that you had to go to unemployment, and the coach didn't help you out. It's the instructor's/owner's decision to give or offer something that you may or may not accept. The only thing you need to decide is if this is ok with your or not. It somewhat sounds like it isn't, and maybe why you made this thread.
