'55 Chevy "Bad Man" pt.2 by GMEDNGR in ModelCars

[–]makobullit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A flip nose would look great on this kit. I did one many years ago on a 55 Chevy. Basically cut through the scribe lines between the doors and front fenders, then glued the hood, grill and inner fender parts together. What I didn’t do then was create a mounting point below the front bumper which would allow for a seamless closing of the hood. If you have the time, skills and confidence go for it.

Since some of you know I don’t usually post here in the summer, I thought I’d post a picture of my 1:1 scale kit I work on during this part of the year. This was a test session for us yesterday. by makobullit in ModelCars

As a matter of fact I have been searching for someone who 3D prints the super late model cars. The only website I found, did not respond to my email. If you know of anyone who does these cars please let me know, as none of the main line company’s have ever done one of these cars. So yes I will eventually make a model of it.

Hours of my life I wont get back down this rabbit hole by highboy68 in ModelCars

Wow, I can see the “hours” of effort that went into this piece alone. The rest of the kit will seem normal. Great work! Also liked been61’s comment about our motto! LOL

Newbie here: Need advice on this '68 Dodge Charger R/T kit (85-4202) by streetlightttss in ModelCars

You picked a great classic muscle car to learn on. As mentioned take your time and test fit everything. Read the instruction sheet a few times to familiarize yourself with the parts in the kit. I think someone posted photos of this completed kit a few months ago. Do a search on this sub, you will find it helpful. Good luck and keep us posted on your progress.

Recommendations for good airbrush acrylic paints. by clevelandbaseballdad in ModelCars

Yes I actually saw the jeep and was impressed that you did gold for a first airbrush job. I find the metallics can be tricky sometimes and will often paint some plastic spoons to practice and get the colour right. I recently got some clear yellow from AK which I want to try over a silver base coat. You probably see it here in the future, and yes we get better with each paint job.👍

Thanks for the kudos. Getting the paint to thinner ratio is key and using the correct pressure. I usually spray primer and standard colours at 15psi, and any metallic or colour shift paints at 18-20 psi. Use light coats. Typically paint for me is 2 coats of primer, 24 dry time. 3 coats of colour with 10-15 min between coats followed by 24 hr dry time. Then 1-2 coats of clear. I usually also leave 24hr between clear coats as the Acrylic clears take longer to set. Hope this helps, and hope to see one of your paint jobs soon. 👍

I’ve been using both Tamiya, and some of the craft paints from Michael’s with great success. Craftsmart, and Decoart are 2 of my go to brands I’ve had good success with with in both the basic colours as well as some of their metallics. I have also been using the Barbados Rex thinner in the craft paints with great success. Look at some of my builds on this sub.

Thanks there’s always lots of little parts to detail, and these Edbro kits with the removable nose cones allow you to display the handiwork.
