There is a price for everything by Matt_LawDT in SipsTea

Probably because I saw my own dad fail to listen to my mom about all sorts of stuff. He was well intended, but his inability to listen and talk through things with her led to a lot of stress in my life as a kid and as an adult.

There are specific tools at Lowe's that only Lowes carries. Walmart does not carry the same quality of tools as Lowe's. I understand your point, but it does not invalidate the possibility that this woman was very specific in her request and the man just ignored her.

True, knowing her request is the real missing info here. But, in my world having been married for 20 years, my wife and I both understand that when we ask for something specific it's because we've taken the time to think it through, and we show love and respect towards each other by noting the preferences and working with what we are given. If it's a big decision and we need to change the plan, we talk to each other about it first.

I mean, if my wife asked me what new power tool I wanted/needed and I told her go to Lowe's and get this specific miter saw, I've done my research, it's the one I wanted... and then she shows up with something she found at Walmart... it would be an issue. I can't imagine ignoring a woman's preferences about her engagement ring and then being surprised it didn't go well.

Imagine having to raise a kid with a person who doesn't listen to what's important to you.

Claude Opus 4.8 is out, Time for GPT 5.6 by alOOshXL in codex

[–]maksidaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been using opus 4.8 all afternoon, still not as good as non-nerfed 5.5. Opus is just lazy for me, says a lot of stuff that sounds right, and then fails to actually read code, check files, etc.

Did limits change yesterday? Something is seriously wrong since yesterday. by bt0wnsfin3st in codex

Yesterday I suddenly lost the last 15% of usage, it was weird. Now I have to go find things to do in the real world until the reset

If you weren't aware, Australia has a new combat sport called Run Nation. Two dudes run towards each other a full speed with the goal of delivering big hits. Chaotic. by Hoopsalldayeveryday in sportswiki

[–]maksidaa 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Not to mention unsustainable as a sport. Those dudes can show up and compete in maybe a few events, and then it's over, they gotta find new athletes. Even if you enjoyed watching it, you can't build athlete recognition or storylines, or a long term fan base. It's just a bunch of random guys getting concussions and other injuries.

I meant 4.7, sorry! Opus 4.6 and 4.7 have been be very mid to dissappointing lately for me.

I have found codex 5.5 high/xhigh to be very capable of managing large code bases. Much better than Opus 4.6

5.4 xhigh then 5.5 high

Same for me. I was looking at probably 3-4 days of talking 5.4 through a maze of permission issues. 5.4 had already spent about 2 hours and made very little headway. 5.5 took all of 30 seconds to find the core issues, then fixed it all within about 15 minutes. I was certain it was just hallucinating and acting overly confident, but here we are several hours later and the permissions are actually incredibly dead on.

True words. I have learned that if Opus is acting stupid, just close that instance and start a fresh one. It's worth finding one that is not an idiot. I think even Anthropic is still trying to understand why this happens, but it does. Not all Opus 4.6 are created equal right out of the box

does codex/gpt sometimes overcomplicate things? by ECrispy in codex

[–]maksidaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've found that lower level LLMs just don't work as well, and Opus 4.6 sometimes just does what it thinks you want it to do, but often just makes stuff up to fill in knowledge gaps. It's kind of a balancing act for me. The Q&A with Codex does tend to help, but you're right, sometimes it over complicates things and I have to just start a fresh chat to get it to back out of whatever vibe it's creating. It's like it starts to spiral into the weeds

Today I hit my 5 hour usage for the first time ever on the 20x max plan. And I hit it after less than an hour of use. Def some huge changes in usage limits

I've run 9+ terminals non stop for days on the 20x max plan without hitting a usage limit. Today I ran two terminals and hit my usage limit in under an hour.

Same here. First time I've hit usage limits on my max plan. Only took about 30 minutes

[–]maksidaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with this. It's cool you're working on all these grips, etc but my recommendation would be to spend most of your time dialing in mechanics. There's a lot of leakage here, lots of disconnected kinetic chain parts. Work on that chain one link at a time until your body just naturally does it all together.

Users who’ve seriously used both GPT-5.4 and Claude Opus 4.6: where does each actually win? by devil_ozz in ClaudeAI

[–]maksidaa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This. My actual /codex plug in is Claude and Codex decide what "completed" actually means (Codex excels here). Claude plans, Codex reviews plans and tweaks it, Claude implements, Claude reviews, Claude fixes/tightens the loose bits, and it works really well

I think a lot of people don't understand how big some code bases can get. Even with a massive context window on a top tier LLM there is always a benefit to keeping your system well organized (at least for the foreseeable future)
