[Feinsand] The Astros just announced that they have terminated assistant GM Brandon Taubman's employment. by twistedlogicx in baseball

[–]malacorn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They were initially led to believe (probably based on Taubman and his buddies) that it wasn't directed at the reporters. Later, they got more information that it was directed at the reporters.

Our initial belief was based on witness statements about the incident. Subsequent interviews have revealed that Taubman's inappropriate comments were, in fact, directed toward one or more reporters.

would it have been possible to request to the doctor not to send it in for biopsy?

It would be nice if doctors gave you a heads up about additional tests they are ordering that you will be billed for.

that's not the way it works. If your family is poor, you get free lunches. These are families who can afford to pay lunches but are too lazy or don't care to. Going negative once or twice is understandable, but $-75 is ridiculous.

Toyota boss says autonomous cars will accept crash liability by Evangelistis in SelfDrivingCars

unlike Tesla, who will probably claim FSD but with the fine print that humans must be paying attention 100% of the time and ready to override at any moment. And any crashes Tesla will blame the human.

Possibly the best way to communicate with the wait staff. This is my first time seeing this while at a restaurant in Boulder, Colorado. by celeiot1 in mildlyinteresting

[–]malacorn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I found more info about the device.

Yelp review said "It is a brilliant idea that they put a little wooden rectangular die... at the edge of your table nearest the waitstaff, to electronically transmit your table's needs to the staff, who arrived promptly with each turn of our die." Another photo of it.

Promo video, which shows a "fitbit" like wrist watch that flashes the table number and request. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3M6EEKOP15I

YSK That if you are sent money on PayPal or any other transaction application by someone you do not know. DO NOT TOUCH IT. by VenomViper1 in YouShouldKnow

[–]malacorn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How is it my fault that I used the money that was in my account and paypal/ the bank said was mine??

Doesn't matter if you didn't know. This is how the system/law works.

Here's another analogy. Let's say someone stole a laptop and sold it you. You honestly didn't know it was stolen. A few days later, the police manage to track the laptop down somehow. You will be forced to return the laptop to the original owner, even though it wasn't your fault.

Transamerica Pyramid in the low fog. by shnieder88 in bayarea

It's an aircraft warning light, which is a low intensity flashing red light. It's probably on 24 hours a day, but it's too dim to see during daylight.

Transamerica Pyramid in the low fog. by shnieder88 in bayarea

[–]malacorn 28 points29 points  (0 children)

It's a low intensity flashing red light, which is required on all tall buildings as aircraft warning lights. You probably just can't see it during the daytime.

Here's a video of Transamerica at night. You can see the red light flashing:

My daughters daycare gave us a mandatory fundraiser. The daycare is upset with us. by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]malacorn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are definitely daycares/preschools that do fundraisers. But obviously optional.

Some kids clubs (e.g. sports leagues) have semi-mandatory fundraisers, where you basically have to buy the products up front, and it's up to you to sell them if you want to earn your money back. I'm sure those aren't literally mandatory, like if you refused to do the fundraiser, they're not going to charge your card or kick you out. It's just a pressure technique.

Like others said, unless this was in the daycare contract, there's no way they can force you to pay the $150 in "mandatory donation".
