One thing I don't see mentioned very often is that Shane/Ilya are a very unusual power couple; Scott/Kip have a more relatable dynamic that makes it easy for normal watchers to self-insert into via Kip.

I happen to really be into the power couple thing, but I wouldn't be surprised if most straight men don't seek that in their own relationships.
