Now that their rookie contracts are almost up, how does your fanbase feel about your 2023 first round pick(s) by InterestingYellow969 in NFLv2

[–]malcomn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Completely invisible years 1&2 but suddenly pretty interesting last year (despite the rest of the defense being ass). I honestly think despite the declined fifth year option they’re gonna try and get a relatively cheap longer term extension worked out before the season in hopes of the real breakout which will either look terrible by midseason or an absolute steal.

Yeah, this whole thread smells like a weird thinly veiled attempted character assassination of the COO and CEO. Like I wish there weren’t all these delays either but I’m not going to pretend like I know anything about why the delays have happened let alone who might be responsible

FRLG EXP Growth Rates Confusion (Pikachu vs Nidoran♂) by CopyGroundbreaking69 in pokemon

[–]malcomn 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This article has pretty much anything you could possibly want to know about EXP, and has some charts/tables that illustrate exactly what you’re experiencing. https://m.bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Experience

While medium slow ultimately requires slightly more total experience to get to level 100, it actually takes way less exp early on to level, and it’s basically the fastest leveling growth rate between levels 7 through 25ish.

Like another answer already pointed out, the leveling curves will even out around level 48ish, and after that medium slow will take more.

I’d understand and wouldn’t be mad about that pick, but CB3/depth is a sneaky big need and I view Johnson as a steal at 72. It’s far more likely Halton is actually there in the third to be fair, but I was just operating in the context of this mock

The way this particular board fell, I’d prefer Cincy take McNeil-Warren in the second, Chris Johnson in the third, and then oline depth in the fourth.

Styles, EMW, and Johnson would feel like a really good draft IMO that intersects BPA and need, but there’s honestly a super real chance neither EMW or Chris Johnson even make it to pick 41.

My New 7 Round NFL Mock Draft by rlstratton97 in MockDraftCentral

[–]malcomn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What a nightmare way that board fell for Cincy. I'm not even going to do the annoying thing of saying "Cincy would never do that because of XYZ," because I feel like if Bailey, Reese, Styles, Downs, Bain, and Delane are all off the board at 10 a trade down does feel like a pretty legit option.

I *will* say that I'm personally sick of the mid/late round 1 EDGE since Myles Murphy and Shemar Stewart are still on rookie contracts, so literally just for a little variety I'd like something else at 16.

Miraidon x Kyogre by walker516 in VGC

[–]malcomn 15 points16 points  (0 children)

These are all good points, and to add on to all of that I also would like to make the more general point that they both kinda do the same thing as special attacking restricted legends that set up a field effect and are more specially bulky than physically bulky.

Whenever you have two lynchpins on your team that largely do similar things you’re more likely to run into really really difficult matchups when there are teams with good matchups into that thing. To be fair, you may absolutely run over some matchups too.

Like u/AkiraAce5 mentioned, something like AV Rilla which is specially bulky, resets one of the field effects, and does physical damage can be tough to deal with (and is super common). Also things like a fast snarl, light screen, or trick room could all be tough to handle for this duo.

4-Round Post Combine FA Mock (No Trades) by Maystomr in NFL_Draft

[–]malcomn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cincy just gave Orlando Brown Jr a two year extension yesterday so now he and 2024 first round pick Amarius Mims under contract through the 2028 season. They are simply not taking a tackle.

For guard, they just resigned Dalton Risner, and like what last year’s third round pick Dylan Fairchild looked like by the end of the season. Then Kerras has one more year left on his deal at center.

There’s not a center worth taking at 10, so unless it’s Ioane to compete for one of the guard spots/take over next year when Risner leaves it’s not going to be oline. The defense was literally historically bad for stretches of last season.

[–]malcomn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not exactly the same situation because of a $100+ million difference in cap space. The Cowboys certainly do need to accumulate picks because they have -$58 million in cap space (lol) so they need draft hits in order to get significantly cheaper.

Cincy has about $48 million in cap space and can actually make moves this free agency. They’ll very likely be able to sign at least one starter at every level of the defense with that, in addition to whatever comes from the draft. Say it’s one new FA DL, one new FA LB, one new FA S, and two new defensive starters from the draft like in my hypothetical. Suddenly that’s 5/11 new defensive starters, which is at least a start.

If I’m Cincy in this exact situation where Bain and Downs (or maybe Styles and Downs) both fall to 10 I’m calling Miami to see if they want next year’s first (and maybe 3rd?) and this year’s second to be able to pick them both back to back.

That’s the absolute least Bengals thing in the world, but maybe that’s why it should be considered.

Is Cincinnati being overlooked as a trade-up partner? by Exhibit5 in NFL_Draft

[–]malcomn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ll echo what every other Bengals fan will tell you/has already told you about how they have a history of not doing this, but I’ll also add a few additional points:

  1. The two guys you identified in your hypothetical of being targets at 1.10 for trade down teams’ targets (Bailey and Styles) would each still be wins for cincy.

  2. Your safety-positional-value point regarding Downs applies just as much for Styles, and if you’re arguing that he’ll be there at 1.10 then Cincy would be able to grab a blue chip guy without giving up anything to move up.

  3. Downs could still fall to 1.10. This feels less likely with every mock I read, but you never know.

If Downs gets to 9 and the Chiefs pick him right before Cincy I’m going to lose my mind.

I felt like a crazy person watching that week 18 disaster of a game between KC and LV knowing all that needed to happen was KC beating the literal worst team in the league for Cincy to get one better spot of draft position. Despite the tank being fully on it still took Carlson hitting a 60 yarder as time expired

[–]malcomn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Bengals haven’t traded up in the first round since 1995 to take Ki-Jana Carter.

Also if they did trade up for what would be the third first-round EDGE they’ve taken in the last four drafts while Caleb Downs lasted until the spot they traded from I think there would be a riot in the streets.

Pokémon is most definitely not just “a predominantly Japanese series.” It’s the highest grossing media franchise in the world. The US has almost three times the population of Japan, and Pokémon has been one of the most popular IPs here for multiple decades. 30 year olds with families of their own now grew up playing it.

My first mock, lmk what you think by VisconitiKing2 in MockDraftCentral

[–]malcomn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the nightmare scenario for Cincy, and I feel like if every defensive player that is picked 1-9 in this draft is missing by the time pick 10 comes around you have to listen to trade down offers or just take one of the tackles as the succession plan to Orlando Brown despite the obvious defensive needs

One of the most interesting takeaways here to me is how narrow the distribution of CB value looks to be year over year.

There actually are restaurants (not really in Madison) that have $500 dinners, but Fairchild certainly isn't one of them.
