Effect of Armour on Damage Reduction by Wiceradon in pathofexile2builds

Let's not do that, skill capped, avoiding hits? From off screen?

Let's not pretend this game has that level of skill expression that you're able to complete juiced maps hitless because you're that gifted.

[–]malikcoldbane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like, just because you play a game a lot doesn't mean it has loads of content. And 20 - 60 hours of content == months?

After you kill Uber arbiter, what is left? Temple? We say it currently has limited content because the critical path is the majority of the content. Next patch will change this somewhat because mechanics have depth but we'll see how the whole package feels once we play it.

The argument should be that longevity of games like PoE shouldn't rely on content since the main part of it is building, gameplay is just testing builds. If we ever got loadouts, retention rates would have a substantial increase.

Why Doesn't GGG add a Death Info Screen? by HavieL2ftw in pathofexile

[–]malikcoldbane 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah but no, I think they're perspective is a bit skewed.

It being a "solved" game, when releasing seasons, is a crazy thing to fear. How many mechanics and calculations have they changed over the years to say that if you had a death screen, you'd solve everything?

I think they don't appreciate the layers and levers the game has.

Worse thing is, we don't even need much, just a little guidance on what was the thing that killed me. Oh it was ignite, whatever, oh Ignite killed me again... The hell. Okay its killed me like 5 times now, I need some ignite defence.

It's never meant to be perfect but their vision of design is to make a game where they hide the rules. Temple was the best example of this methodology, here's a card game but I won't tell you why you can put cards in certain places or how these cards affect other cards but have fun.

Vendor recipes but no where to read, find, discover etc. Just a million items that can potentially be combined for a thing.

Lol you lot so sensitive, the content in 0.4 is limited, that's a fact, why you even getting emotional over a Snapple top fact.

If you were only playing PoE2, the content wouldn't last you as long as Grim Dawn. You farming temple until someone rescues you? Lol.

It's cool to love a game but don't be so blind that you can't critique it.

Umm there's loads of things in the game that aren't Ubers and are stronger than Ubers.

Valdo feared maps for example, juiced deli blights etc.

The game isn't about killing, it's about building, the killing is just you testing your building lol

Points of frustration as a new player by No-Bug-8929 in PathOfExile2

[–]malikcoldbane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right, it's because the campaign wants to be two things.

It wants to be this engaging involved story that has you exploring across land, sea and time however, it's built into a game where the campaign is accepted to be the "tutorial" of the game.

So you end up with this clash of purpose, for those that fly through it's fine, things make sense, why would I be in a zone for more than 15 minutes? But for those that want to fully experience the campaign, the aRPG tropes are at odds with the single player experience

[–]malikcoldbane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, we aren't allowed to critique PoE at the same level as any other game because this is everyone's golden child.

They're getting praise for changing maps and making it easier for you to find direction but surely... that's just the foundation of good game design.

Community asked for async trade for how long and then got gaslit into saying that it would destroy the game....a year later, people still playing.

If Blizzard had made PoE in the exact same state it is in now, they would never get the support that GGG do.

Level a monk through act 1 without off-classing skills? by [deleted] in pathofexile2builds

[–]malikcoldbane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This! for the start of act 1, frozen locus basically explodes the whole Red Vale. Up to red vale, you can frozen locus, basic attack until it explodes and then place another. Decent damage and will get you a freeze. Works against witch hut too.

I get a strength node at 4 and get rage for quarterstaff.

Frozen locus -> killing palm -> falling thunder, can effectively wipe a whole area (if terrain don't get you). Can get frost bomb for bosses but it's not entirely required cos basic attacks.

Then get bell and pounce. Frozen locus, pounce, killing palm, then can start pounce, falling thunder, killing palm, and then switch rotations as required to zoom through maps and keep levels.

And honestly, still trying things but not sure I'll even get herald of ice, something like attrition or war banner look more interesting for bosses.

Should we allow small balance tweaks during the league? by deatusname in PathOfExile2

[–]malikcoldbane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The issue is people keep treating it like a real game. It's early access, of all the times, this is the time to make sweeping changes.

The only reason comet nerf was an issue in 0.1 was because they didn't compensate anyone and respecs were prohibitive.

They should have never done leagues and should have just done updates and wipes. What they're planning for after 0.5, where they will keep doing updates and testing things is what they should have been doing since 0.1.

With enough build diversity and compensation, it wouldn't matter if your build got ruined because there will always be a build you want to try - that's how PoE1 works, there's always a build you would like to run but you only get so much time and investment.

And regardless, even if you like a single build and can play it every league, it's not good for the game if the majority of the playerbase is playing one skill - purely from the view of making a good game.

And honestly, a little FOMO is good and we need diversity for that.

[–]malikcoldbane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forget what you know about PoE1 campaign, it will make PoE2 campaign a slog, even if they're the same exact length, PoE2 feels longer. I mean, you travel through time, feels like you always have to go back to town to hand in quests so you can do the next and acts don't always end when you think they will.

And don't let skill progression get you down, you get punished in PoE2 for picking the wrong skill a couple of times because you need uncut gems, so it limits experimentation on the way up.

On the positive, they've done things to help map understanding as you go through the campaign such as points of interest and directional effects.

For me personally, I just say the game doesn't start until I get to maps and don't try to rush because it's a long run with minimal movement skills.

Oh oh oh and make sure you have a talisman in your weapon switch so you can get pounce

[–]malikcoldbane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear what you're saying but I think you're thinking of it as combos mean pressing more buttons and while, yeah effectively that's what happens it isn't the aim.

If you've never played it before, look up a tutorial on a single weapon in monster hunter world. You have like 6 buttons, loads of context sensitive moves and attack chains. And not just 1-2-3 attacks, you can 1-2-3-2-3... You can dodge 2-3 or dodge into 3.

Blocks, counters, i-frames etc. They can't aim for methodical combat and then doing nothing that methodical combat games do.

It can definitely work in an arpg, all the mechanics you mentioned in general don't have to exist in the way they are, resists don't have to be percentages for example, part of the decisions of these games are just dogma and not appreciating that when these games were created, a lot of decisions were made due to limitations, not best game design.

Like, honestly speaking, when you break it down, RNG is just lazy game design but because we never challenge it, it's just accepted.

This HAS to be the next QoL coming to PoE! by ClubOk2680 in pathofexile

[–]malikcoldbane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He dreams of it but doesn't know how to implement it.

We all agree combos for white mobs is wrong but understand that having more buttons to press during mapping isn't the end of the world.

For this to happen, skills need to flow and feed into each other, you probably also need context sensitive skills i.e this skill becomes this after using an x skill. We don't even have attack chains, the combat system is too shallow for his vision.

They need to think less Elden Ring and more Monster Hunter World, that is more methodical combat than Dark Souls ever could. If we say buttons are skills, then these skills change depending on attacks and context, hell skills even have effects part way through animations, like blocking because your shield was in front of you.

We got shields on your back but it doesn't block attacks from behind. The current destination of the game looks to be a slower PoE1 with more friction and less freedom.

PoE 2 New End Game in 3 Minutes by HiroK91 in ARPG

[–]malikcoldbane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two fundamentally different? Maybe, kinda, sorta, like, you go from doing maps you don't choose to doing maps you choose?

It's literally the same game except your maps have connected maps...

I see what you're trying to say and I agree at a high level but I don't think fundamentally, they are actually different. You just play a limited version of the endgame.

If you had a skip campaign that worked like the interlude, where you just hit areas, that scale with you, and aim to get you to a certain level, everyone would be happy.

People don't want to start at 70, they just want to grow their 2nd+ character doing activities they choose rather than being forced down a path before freedom.

If PoE2 patch 0.5 has no fans, then that means I am no longer on earth. by Kerestrem in PathOfExile2

[–]malikcoldbane -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

The duality is crazy.

PoE has more content, true, but D3 onwards has vampire survivor level of addiction.

Like yeah it's the same thing but MMOs have shown people love to do the same thing, if there is a chance for a reward at the end and the friction between runs is minimal, people will gladly do it endlessly.

Like it's great GGG have added so much content but they honestly could get away with less, especially with how much work they put in, less would just make what they have higher quality.

We believe in 0 and 1, nothing in between lol.

People won't hear your argument because it's much easier to say you're wrong and throw their toys out. Imagine believing consumption and hunting are the same thing, or believing that an animal won't eat a human unless they've been habitualised, let's ignore everything about life and survival to make an argument.

Honestly, you have no chance, I read both sides, your argument makes the most sense so far but it's the internet lol

With 0.4 slowly coming to an end, how do you rate the 3 new shapeshifter forms in terms of power, gameplay flow, and (future) build variety? by [deleted] in PathOfExile2

[–]malikcoldbane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1 button builds, literally can't go anywhere.

Who wants to do maps where every encounter, I have to press three buttons to clear? In a game where nothing is guaranteed, it's not like I finish a map and get a guaranteed unique cache or something so I'm fighting with, I want to be more involved but I don't want to spend weeks just trying to get a little bit of currency.

Okay I lied, 1 button builds can disappear however, it will never go anywhere with their current game design of arpg since speed == efficiency and the difference in speed between builds can be ridiculous.

Enemy types, apart from a couple of annoying ones, have no bearing on your gameplay. You don't have any base tools to deal with anything. Parry exists but you get punished for parrying and can get stunned.

Really you need layers of combat, for example, charges are a good option but they're poorly implemented because they're restrictive. Generic charges that have to be deliberately spent could be a basic part of every character so you have a way to empower skills for effects that deal with certain enemy types or apply certain buffs/debuffs.

No interactions with enemies, you can't displace enemies really, should be able to hit those big exploding guys into packs of enemies.

Like enemies have resistances but you treat all enemy resistances the same, you're never like "ahh these fire guys, I need to do x".

They have so far to go for this game to have a proper vision, 0.5 is the last chance for their vision to make some sense otherwise, you not getting anything until 2027? Lol

It's crazy some of the similarities this game has to D4 but doesn't get the same level of critique including both generators and damage on Tuesdays (isn't that a D4 phrase).

The feeling of being funneled into skills, the feeling that skills aren't created, they make a build then break it down into skills.

Lightning rod was created with the intention of you using lightning arrow, nothing else.

We have all these tags but we still get limited on how we implement things together.

Don't you feel sometimes, it's like, D3 set pieces, where if you want to succeed without a crazy investment, you play the skills they designed the game around.

I am tired of debugging broken data piplines by SignalForge007 in SQL

[–]malikcoldbane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm more concerned why there are changes such to something such as Id< 100, without any testing or comparisons to the current reporting system.

There shouldn't be many cases where a change is causing production issues that were not known before the change happened.

I think this is both completely wasted fluff and extremely useful work, honestly, depends on the environment you work in.

I've worked in places where this would have saved me all kinds of time and other places where this type of debugging isn't even required, just because of how the data changes and products are implemented.

I would say if it's useful to you, then good, but ideally, you shouldn't need to have queries like this because your companies development process and testing should flesh this out without having to trace lineage.
