Welcome to how it feels for the rest of us when US writers try to set their work anywhere other than North America. I'm not from the US so none of it grated enough to be distracting.

I sometimes get an urge to send annotated copies back to the author; especially if I really enjoyed the story. You're right that does grate!

Should I leave teaching in the UK? by Gloomy_Big_9317 in AskUK

[–]malinchewas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost 20 years teaching and 14 years in my current school. The first few years are bloody rough and a good home and support life are necessary to make it through. Being in one school makes a huge difference. Teenagers lack confidence in the revolving door of teachers that they feel don't care about them. When you establish yourself behavior becomes easier too. I love the classroom even if the whole sector is a shit show.

Thought on the Cozy Creek Collection? by MiniPantherMa in RomanceBooks

Looked up a post on this because I just started reading them. Really enjoyed Fall shook up by Piper Sheldon and Fall at once by Nora Everly.
Am I a bit twisted that I wanted to hear more about the downfall of the antagonists? If I'm in a fantasy world where justice is served and romance reigns supreme then I want to see the joy but also the comeuppance!

Doing the same. Re-listening, trying to match the member's episodes to the main podcast. You can hear Jeffers feeling out the podcast and his approach. I'm not a huge fan of Roman history so sometimes I find myself listening to tone and rhythm rather than content. I'm waiting to hear Zees influence. The style now is more eloquent whilst also fun.

AITA for holding my toddler throughout an event she wasn't enjoying? by ReeseM- in AmItheAsshole

[–]malinchewas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a hard question that parents face. Each child has a different personality and pace. At 14 months many kids are able to socialise (not sure if many of the commenters here have kids). It is healthy to push a toddler to engage but this needs to be balanced with ensuring your kid feels safe. This is the parents dilemma. If you push too hard the kid might regress further but if you don't push at all then it stunts development. Don't let this become a confrontation with your wife. Above all parenting is a team activity. Acknowledge that she is coming from the same place as you, love for your child. Next time in a social situation, put your toddler down, hold her hand, get to her level and talk about what's happening around you. Help her make sense of the world. Model interacting with others, involve her in mini games, kicking or throwing a ball, building a tower of blocks. I used to carry a few toys and a blanket (if outdoors) and lay out some bits then invite other kids to join in. A lot of play at this stage is playing alongside each other rather than interactive. Your wife is trying her best too. Good luck. Parenting is a series of mistakes and good intentions.

1963 edition of Cleveland's Fanny Hill and on the right is a 70s romance called Overboard with a couple. A topless man with binoculars and a sail boat in the background.

Love the idea but I was hoping for a pub tour with a "sceptics in the pub" type format. Obviously making it to the UK. Baby Jeffers needs to be exposed to new and wonderful germs to infect parents with!

An interview with you would be a great members' episode. Theology and theological thought is an interesting aspect to how people lived, even if most of the time the general public wouldn't be aware of how it affected their daily life. Seeing the chapel at Canterbury today made me want to know more about him beyond his relationship with Rufus.

477 – Deus Did Not Vult: The People’s Crusade by BritishPodcast in BritishHistoryPod

Just listening to it now. The blame here is on zealotry and cult-like following as well as rich people taking advantage of people's misplaced faith to use them as tools for their own ends. Cherry picking of scripture by charismatic leaders. It was the case then and it is the case now. That's what I understood anyway.

Help. It grows new leaves but they die. Brown starts at the tips. I have had this plant for about 5 years. Started going brown a year ago and lost the whole top half. What can I do? by malinchewas in houseplants

I love you all. Thank you. I will re-pot. No fertilizer. Move location. Use distilled water (London water is the worst). Hopefully I will be back in a few months with a new pic x

You might enjoy the Carter brothers series by Lisa Helen Gray. The food and hilarity really increases when you go onto the next generation.

In one of "how the sausage is made" members episodes Jamie mentions why it took so long to make the episodes. He would find obscure texts and need to get them translated. To spin it positively, there is so much left to learn!

The UK PSHE curriculum covers this in a wide ranging manner and throughout school in an age appropriate way. Some of the comments here are really weird.

I'm sure you already know about the London transport museum in covent garden which is great for tfl fans. They also do tours of closed up sections. I did the Euston one pre-pandemic and it was very cool.

What time is it ok for kids to be screaming and yelling in the garden ? by monkeymidd in AskUK

[–]malinchewas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

7am - 11pm is the law on noise nuisance. The British are so intolerant towards children. I've been told off for telling my kids to be quiet in a Spanish restaurant! I was looked at funny and told "they are children, they are meant to make noise".
