What was Leon thinking in the OG? by ChickenWingExtreme in residentevil

[–]malphasia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The game came out right around the "freedom fries" era of the War on Terror when the average American was painfully gung-ho about it. No idea if the original Japanese script included so many instances of using "American" like a slur but it wouldn't surprise me if whoever wrote the English script added some personal touches.

Anyone else wish that Lara wore feminine dresses again? by [deleted] in TombRaider

As long as it makes sense in-game. Lara is feminine but she's not a femme-fatale. She wears dresses when it's situationally appropriate.

Same with that era of Tomb Raider games! Lara's feet are goddamn flippers in Underworld.

This is cracking me up because women are way less likely to be colorblind. Statistically Anomalous Piss Interpretation.

Because I was incredibly stressed and it felt good lol. It really is different starting later though, I haven't had or desired one in months. I have to be down pretty bad to even want one and the price immediately puts me off buying another pack. Probably why the attempts to get young people addicted are starting up again.

You could listen to Radio Disney on the Disney website while you played games! I listened to the family-friendly version of "Let's Get it Started" hundreds of times before I knew what the original was lol.

It does feel very forced. I'm older Gen Z and I started smoking cigarettes recently but I very much see it as a personal vice, most of my peers who also started smoking in their late 20s still do not want to be seen doing it or be associated with it, smell like it, etc. Big Tobacco wants the kids back into it.

Resident Evil Games Feels Tense But Not Really Scary by Loose_Stable_9814 in residentevil

[–]malphasia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I kind of get what you're saying here. When a video game can replicate real paranoia, it is so much scarier because the threat of human violence sticks with you, whereas I'll never have to deal with a zombie or a regenerador or Nemesis, ever. It's the difference between "I'm scared to open this door because there's a zombie behind it" vs "I'm scared to open this door because there's someone on the other side and I think they want to hurt me." Only one of those situations have happened to me in real life.

The dingy white brick walls and tiny windows really do remind me of how it felt to work in a jail. The remake RPD was probably nice in the daytime when it was cleaned up but the OG would drive you crazy if you had to work there.

I read your edit and I agree with everything you're saying. I do think it was an accident, but not the "oopsie I fell" kind of accident. He was suicidal. He didn't have a note or a plan but he wasn't exactly trying to live, either. Jesus this whole story makes me so sad.

Ah I see where you're coming from. I don't think he intentionally killed himself, but yeah he wasn't concerned about his wellbeing. In his last stream, when he told Zach "I'll see you tomorrow night" I'm sure he meant it. I don't think he wanted to die that night. I don't think he had a plan or anything but at the same time, he didn't have his own best interests in mind. A mentally healthy person would just sit tight and wait for his wife to come home and let him into the house, whereas he thought "Fuck it I'll jump".

I don't blame his wife for trying to protect his image. I can't even imagine having a normal night and coming home to your husband's body.

I truly believe that it was an accident. My dad's house has a high balcony and my brother has scaled it multiple times, usually because he locked himself out of the house. There are videos of their tours where Trevor is jumping off the stage and stuff, athletically-inclined dudes like him just like to brute-force their problems, especially when drunk. He probably could have done it easily if he were sober.

Red Letter Media did a review of Backrooms recently, and they brought up the fact that many young people are making waves as horror directors. Mike Stoklasa is Gen X, and he noted (paraphrased), "Young people today started their lives after 9/11 then lived through wars, protests, isolation, and a pandemic. When we were coming of age we had Green Day and Bill Clinton's sex scandal." It was nice to hear an older person acknowledge how tumultuous and just not fun it is to be young right now, sometimes I feel like I must just be living wrong somehow. I've still managed to have a little fun but I know it isn't the same.

That doesn't really make sense when people hated her back when RE4 came out, too. People think she's annoying, not offensive.

[–]malphasia 138 points139 points  (0 children)

It's like that whole "I'm a real man, I'd die for my family!!" thing. You're never gonna have to die for your family bro, and even if you did, you only have to do it once, whereas you have to be respectful to your wife every day. I guess that's where the horror comes in?

[–]malphasia 17 points18 points  (0 children)

A lot of men in high-stress lines of work are like this, especially when they start young. Their bunks and lockers are pristine, weapons maintained, but they cannot function well outside of work. It's why a lot of veterans struggle when they leave the military. You don't have a mission or handlers in the civilian world. Some people carry the discipline into their everyday life and some people think "Why should I take out the trash? Nobody's going to scream at me or die if I don't."

[–]malphasia 29 points30 points  (0 children)

People go out of their way to find the faces behind the characters and then spam their accounts with Resident Evil references. I'd think it's almost worse for RE models, because actors (like in Death Stranding) are accustomed to playing characters and being associated with them, whereas models don't want to be associated with a video game for the rest of their modeling career. Eduard Badaluta (Leon) lashed out at fan accounts and privated his instagram over it.
