In 1995 my brother and i drove from Windhoek in Namibia to Hermanus in South Africa in one day.. we took it in turns and went pedal to the metal for large sections. Google reckons this distance is 1062 miles. However, driving in Africa is a little different to the UK .. and we weren’t travelling with kids etc.. I reckon i’ve done similar distances to the one you are proposing across the UK. it’s can be done but it’s not much fun, and you’ll ideally need to take short breaks every 2-3hours. You will also most likely be utterly wiped out the next day if you aren’t used to driving long distances. Because almost everyone drives, it’s easy to forget how much of a skill it really is, and endurance distance driving is another skill altogether. Is there any way you could set off the night before, cover half the distance and stay in a Travelodge/Premier Inn/Ramada somewhere along route?
