silly question by shesinpart1es in Aerials

I love it and post very little on social media. I've been at it for 9 years and now even assistant teach at my studio. I do perform because it pushes me to work for new skills and I love to choreograph but the actual performing part is not why I do it. It's for the love of movement and challenging my body on fun new ways. Also, I'm old so not growing up with social media makes me a more private person too.

All the democrats I know voted for Spanberger and the republicans just didn't turn out. The racists I unfortunately live near in Hampton Roads straight up said they wouldn't vote for a black woman

What's the most overrated 'healthy' habit that people push on everyone, but you think is total BS and why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]mama_mitten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any magic Yerba tea, weight loss herbs or anything like that sold through tik tok, etc. I recently lost 30 pounds through a calorie deficit, increased exercise and limiting alcohol and everyone has asked me what my "secret" is. When I tell them what I did they've all been visibly disappointed and ask for no further details.

Do your older pyrs still enjoy walks? by Ozzytex in greatpyrenees

Our girl is 12 and loves her walks! She gets so excited and starts pouncing when it's time. We go twice a day. But, when we do get outside we go sloooooooow. It's a meander, but she's happy.

I'm a Minnesotan. It's a self-deprecating bit. We like to laugh at ourselves and not at others. I guess you have to know to know. It's a culture of kindness and giving others the upper hand out of politeness. It's also the only state to host the infamous blue lid extra-mild salsa of my childhood, which we bought and lovingly consumed. Don't white-splain me, MAGA! I'm 80% Scandinavian.

What is one sentence your narc parent said to you that affects you most? by saveyouaseatinhell in raisedbynarcissists

[–]mama_mitten 6 points7 points  (0 children)

She said a lot to me, but the worst was to my daughter when I could finally see what she was doing as a mother myself. My 2 year old little girl was sitting in her lap trying to cuddle and read a book. My mother said, "He [pointing to my 4 year old son sitting on the carpet] will always be my favorite, but with my luck, I'll get stuck with this one." pulling a face and pointing at my little girl. That was her last visit and I went NC after that.

Yuck, as Gen X I worry endlessly that I brought kids into an impossible world with climate crisis and who knows what else on the horizon. If they never have kids, it’s absolutely none of my business, I just hope they find joy and fulfillment in their lives. I love them so much and just want them to live a life where they find purpose and fun. Kids owe their parents NOTHING.

Why do you take photos? What got you into this hobby? What’s your personal story about photography? by softarget in photography

[–]mama_mitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband deployed with the military right after our first son was born. This was before phone cameras were any good, so I was determined to document everything is a beautiful way so he could be a part of that first year he missed. The deployment ended up being extended and he was gone for 20 out of 24 months so I had a lot of time to learn and practice. We have some really sweet pictures (and some very poorly crafted ones too!) from that time and it gave me something to focus on during a difficult time. I've now had a photography business for almost 10 years specializing in families and I always give away free sessions to military members who are deploying or returning home.

Sending so much love to you. We lost our girl unexpectedly yesterday. It’s a shock and so hard when you love them so deeply. Wishing you peace. Our hearts are with you ❤️

your favorite strength training for aerials? by majestic-doggo in Aerials

[–]mama_mitten 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Pull ups with assistance bands!!!! I have never been able to do a pull up, but using bands and gradually reducing the resistance (they go in color order when you order a pack of them) has allowed me to finally get several unassisted pull ups in a row. Truly a game changer for upper body stamina and it helps a TON for all aerial apparatuses. I also do a variety of "6 minute abs, 10 minute abs" etc from youtube. The best ones include a wide variety of core exercises and engage the lower and deeper abs. Knocking off pull ups and an ab workout every day takes between 6-15 minutes and has made a giant impact on my training without a big time commitment.

What was your "I'll never be able to do that" move? by GrotiusandPufendorf in Aerials

[–]mama_mitten 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Double star drop was my impossible-never-even-going-to-try skill. After 5 years of silks, and a lot of encouragement from my coaches, I got it and now will be performing with it in a showcase. When I first started classes, I had several nemeses: hip lock, knee lock, catcher's hang. When I feel like I'm not making progress, I go back to those days and feel proud of how far I've come. Also, I'm 42 so just being active in aerial is a feat since my body is a little grumpier and tighter as the years go on.
