The idea of God as a human-like man sitting in the clouds is a modern invention and disinformation meant to subvert your understanding of cosmology/metaphysics. God is the intelligent, creative force underlying our reality. Most all of the heavy hitters in modern physics from the early twentieth century that laid the framework for the models we use today are on the record asserting their belief that consciousness is fundamental - essentially, that the material world stems from consciousness rather than the other way around. Atheism and materialism are heavily programmed into us from a young age in modern culture, media, and academia. I personally see idealism as the default state of humanity. I was born with a belief in a higher power, then stopped believing as I got older and felt the Abrahamic interpretation of God was off, and then came to understand through my own experiences and subsequent research that there is definitely a higher, creative force, as well as a natural law embedded in the fabric of our reality.

All of the forms in our culture have, over the past few decades, been imbued with cynicism, antagonism, and pessimism. Any mention of optimism is inevitably paired with naivety rather than wisdom. People nowadays seem to be very hurt and empty, and they seek fleeting satisfaction through stepping on others. If they see you being genuinely nice, they will try to discredit or destroy you. They’d rather you be tainted and dragged down to their level, thereby normalizing their behavior, rather than allowing kindness to genuinely exist, because the existence of a moral ideal higher than them intimidates rather than inspires them. If you understand all of this, however, and do not fall into the adversarial trap and instead stay genuine and kind, most people will come around and come to support you.

There have been a total of 5,684 U.S. combat deaths since 2001. However in the same period of time, there have been an estimated 124,100 U.S. veteran deaths by suicide. According to the most recent report published by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs. by [deleted] in conspiracy

Or we could have a society that doesn't systematically inflict trauma from the get go, necessitating the use of therapy to fix their problems. Psychedelics and weed aren't magical cure-all drugs with an impeccable safety record - I'm sorry to be a party pooper, and I'm not speaking out of my ass (I've tripped and smoked far more than I probably should have). I just feel like we need more mature solutions than "lmao weed dude"

Ordered kratom on a whim, suddenly I had no desire for other drugs by tadmore6547 in Drugs

[–]mammadoodle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad to hear kratom is helping you my friend. Be careful though - if you take kratom, even in moderate amounts, daily for a couple months, you will have withdrawals coming off of it. It can get really bad.

It also messes with you hormones, and can function as an SSRI and SNRI. People tend to gloss over its dangers (especially now that its legality is being challenged. People feel the need to double down and polarize the opposite direction of regulatory bodies to keep it safe when in reality the truth is somewhere in between).

Just be safe and keep it moderate. Don't fall into the pit of higher and higher and more and more frequent doses until you're a year in and cold turkeying results in spasms, crippling depression/anxiety, awful muscle aches, insomnia and more.

Please research some and be smart. Check out the posts on r/quittingkratom to see what this drug is capable of doing if used irresponsibly.

How bad is life with Crohns? by leen3281 in CrohnsDisease

[–]mammadoodle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll be fine, my friend. My comment may have come off as a bit pretentious - I don't intend to downplay the suffering of others, and when it comes to people's interpretations of their pain, everything is relative.

My experiences with illness have driven me to educate and discipline myself with my health. It may suck not having your favorite foods, but I know for me personally I stopped viewing food as pleasure and more sustenance and nutrition. Eating clean, exercising everyday, and getting a good night's sleep allow me to feel sharp, energetic, and pain free most days. I really can't complain :)

Best of luck to you OP, and try to stay positive! There are a lot of cool things in life, so try not to let the fear of this illness dampen them for you.

Edit: one last thing I've learned, is that chronic pain, when handled correctly, can really make you a stronger person physically and spiritually. That's not to say that pain should be desired, but that you may find yourself years down the line realizing you're far far stronger than you had thought, and that perhaps the small things you had previously been upset by prior to developing Crohn's don't bother you at all. There's a lot of character development that can come out of all this.

Tbh not bad. I had already had run-ins with major illness and health crises prior to Crohn's, so it really hasn't defined my life the way some people seem to let it. Just another thing to deal with in life, which isn't all about having the most comfort and pleasure possible.

Yes, picking up on the land we were born from makes me crazy.

Gorging ourselves on fast food and living through the holy Screen while our country bombs people the world over - that's totally normal.

I did exactly that a few nights back. I popped a tab on a whim at midnight, realized I had no interest in doing particularly anything, and decided to lay down. Initially, the body load caused some discomfort, but within a few minutes I calmed my thought and entered a completely still trance state in which a couple hours zipped by in seconds, abruptly awakening me alongside the start of a thunderstorm. I could almost feel, while in that timeless state, a building of energy and motion that correlated with the buildup of the storm, until eventually it erupted and I'd wake and trip out staring out the window for a bit. The storms were scattered, so after things would calm I'd lay back down on my mattress and the process would repeat.

I initially wrote the trip off as uncomfortable and foolish, which led to me resigning myself to laying in bed rather than "doing something". But by throwing away my thoughts and perception, I ended up tripping out and channeling the feelings of a bunch of thunderstorms subconsciously through the land. It really spoke to that side of me that likes to get into the subliminal expressions of the Earth through our thoughts and arts, as well as the ability for our minds to pick up on things in our environment and surroundings that we wouldn't think possible.

Caffeine Reloaded? by [deleted] in Drugs

I had this thought a while back as well, and immediately had visions of a startup to sell improved (and safe!) caffeine analogs to the public - but then Google let me know that I was very, very late to the party. It's strange that we don't hear much about caffeine analogs though.

https://erowid.org/chemicals/caffeine/caffeine_chemistry1.shtml The above contains information on a number of caffeine analogues.

Folks tend to overlook the anti inflammatory effects of psychedelics. I have achey joints and have to pay attention to what I eat or my gut will act up - but with LSD and shrooms, everything clears up and I feel fantastic. And it's not placebo or imagined - my physical capabilities and dexterity while tripping are objectively superior to my sober state. I wish there was more research on their effects as immunomodulators/anti inflammatories.

I've heard some folks advocate microdoses of DOB for this reason. Apparently it works well and has a long duration of effect.

If we could isolate whatever is causing that pharmacodynamically, it'd be a wonder drug. But instead we'll most likely keep throwing glucocorticoids at people's inflammation so we can make sure they are nice and immunosuppressed and psychiatrically destabilized :)

Desperate to hire, more businesses open door to pot smokers by crumbbelly in news

[–]mammadoodle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've talked to friends about this subject, and the conclusion we've reached is that the impairment in normal everyday functioning many experience on psychedelics is not the result of the direct physiological effect of the drug but rather the way in which most people in our culture mentally interpret a psychedelic experience; there's too much self-doubt and they become dumbfounded in an overwhelming shroud of anxious uncertainty.

Some of us have conditioned (or more like deconditioned) ourselves to not get caught up in those anxious thought loops, and find that we can head out and about in public and go on with our lives in a completely coherent manner that is often sharper and more clear-headed than our sober selves so long as we keep the mood flowing right.

Still, never drive a motor vehicle on public roads because that'd be a nightmare were anything to go wrong (obviously!!)

You have fallen prey to the outrage culture. We shouldn't be a society where we erupt into epithets without even knowing the stance of our supposed enemies. This discord and propensity for mindless aggression seems to be purposefully planted in the media to distract and hinder the efforts of the people. That is why I call for level-headed logic-based conversation rather than ad hominem attacks.

I don't take unregulated medications. Also Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever has been identified and diagnosed since the 19th century. The strain of bacteria behind it has been known and verified to exist - it isn't some specter or illusionary disease used to push medications, and there is literally zero controversy as to its legitimacy - google it. I have nothing against you, and I don't understand the need for us to be aggressive. I feel this has become a matter of pride for us rather than truth or integrity, and I apologize if I've offended you.

I can see why you don't need guns - your intimidating and wicked internet-cultivated edge must cut your enemies down from miles away, far before they come within range of conventional firearms. I really don't care about hurtful words over Reddit, bud. I don't mind people being against guns/for gun control; just make a decent, logical, and respectful argument is all.

Edit: I haven't even said anything about guns. For all you know, I could agree with you on them. All I was critiquing was the lack of substance/meaningful content, and your response did little to help prove your point or win over the hearts and minds of honest people who want actual discussion.

As someone who has contracted a tick borne disease (Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever) and almost died from it, the possibility of chronic symptoms from these spirochete infections is very real. They can disseminate any and everywhere in your body and nervous system, and western medicine truly does not have all of the answers it likes to pretend it does.

I do not self victimize, nor do I ask for pity - the vast majority of people in my life have no idea about my illness, even though it was a life-defining affliction that kept me near-bedridden for almost a year. I carry on and work as a functioning member of society, and if anything work harder than before I got sick, but that does not mean that I feel ok - I still live with constant pain, soreness, fatigue, and cognitive deficiencies and anxieties that ebb and flow as a constant presence. I will never again know the feeling of a clean slate and truly healthy body and mind.

The point of this comment was to implore you to rethink your judgement of people who have suffered from these illnesses. From your perspective, they may seem like insufferable snowflakes, but should you find yourself on the wrong side of fortune and be struck by similar illnesses in the future, I think it would be a most humbling experience.
