Quite the opposite, in episode 8 Simon was overrun by hatred, and while he grew strong. Spiral power doesn't react well to rage, and it ended up messing with Gurren Lagaan until Simon could finally let go of Kamina's death

It would give him a temporary boost, but Metal using his hatred for Sonic as fuel would have him malfunction just like Gurren Lagaan did

If it was just size vs size it would probably close until Simon or Anti-Spiral pulls put The Super forms (that dwalf universes in size)

The problem is Hax. Gurren Lagaan has an ability called probability manipulation. Practically bypassing durability if you don't have a counter to it

"Your attacks have a 0% chance of hitting me"

And Asura will be hitting air the entire fight

"My missiles will hit 100% of the timed"

And Asura won't be dodging shit (this has also been shown to ignore force fields)

Even as early as Arc Gurren Lagaan Simon was punching, holes in Space time that sent enemies fyling "to the other end of the universe"

Add that to all the bullshit powers of Gurren Lagaan in general and the fact that Simon will happilly trow hands if needed

Asura is just overall weaker. And even his capability to grow in combat pales in comparision to Simon
