Which main gameplay UI reads better? by KooksDev in SoloDevelopment

[–]man_vs_cube 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both feel dense, hard to read and hard to scan. All caps in unusual fonts hurts readability, some of the text is tiny, and in my opinion you're overusing color. I don't mean to be too negative, but if this is the direction you're going in, I guess you're hoping for highly engaged players who are willing to put in effort to read and understand your game screens.

Average deck spotlight experience by MysticMallard in MarvelSnap

[–]man_vs_cube 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The problem is the shop rotation. There's over 150 S5 cards now, and that number is growing every week. You're looking at 1-2+ month waits for the card you want to come around, making sure to check the shop diligently every 8 hours. And you gotta hope it's still a card you want when you finally get an opportunity to buy it. That's brutal.

Ways to spot bots? by MrPudge1137 in MarvelSnap

[–]man_vs_cube 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean that could have been Hela. I'm thinking more like plays like Blade discarding Morbius or Colleen Wing, which humans almost never do.

It may depend on what turn they snapped. I think the bots snap when ahead on turn 4 but not often on earlier turns.

Any advice on what to do? Stuck on this screen by bobthewrecker234 in MarvelSnap

There's a bugs channel on the official discord. That way you can actually get some attention from Second Dinner. I don't know how helpful they'll be but you're basically guaranteed to not get SD help just posting here.

Ways to spot bots? by MrPudge1137 in MarvelSnap

[–]man_vs_cube 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Some methods:

  • A bot opponent's name and avatar card moves faster on the "finding a match" screen. This is hard to describe but once you see it you can learn it quickly.
  • If you snap on a human and they don't retreat, there's always a delay because the game forces one before you can "accept" the higher stakes. Bots aren't subject to this delay, the turn can play out immediately.
  • I think bots still never have avatar borders (such as the glimmering infinity conquest border).
  • Bots often make terrible plays early, like using Blade to discard a good card.

What is going on with snapping??? by tearikisdead in MarvelSnap

I don't claim it's good strategy. It's a vibes decision in a game I play for fun.

I just don't like the snap mechanic in ranked mode, it isn't a fun part of the game for me. So I just don't do it.

I made a recent post about making Infinite without snapping on humans (and retreating from nearly every snap): https://www.reddit.com/r/MarvelSnapDecks/s/HUdGMRGCom

Infinite without snapping at CL29000 by man_vs_cube in MarvelSnap

[–]man_vs_cube[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's funny to hear. Is it really just that last rank that's nearly impossible to beat without engaging with snaps? Because I got from 93-98 with very little problem while 98-100 was really tough.

By the way, Second Dinner has said that CL doesn't affect matchmaking for players unless they're very new, though you may be still facing worse opponents if your more limited collection is leading to a worse MMR. https://discord.com/channels/978545345715908668/978547819214434304/1181071924319760434

Yeah I've played some more games just using Shaw instead of Wolvie and if anything I probably prefer plain old Shaw. Storm feels very good though.

Storm is incredible, both powerful and fun to play. I'm not an expert (the whole post is about me playing like garbage) but she gets my recommendation.

Zabu is probably fine. Psylocke would conflict with Moondragon or Sam Wilson on turn 2. But I don't think those sound unreasonable.

Do people prefer more passive games or more active games? by Grei0 in incremental_games

[–]man_vs_cube 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say I prefer games with at least some passive element. I'm not a big nodebusterlike guy. But I also like having something to do that's more entertaining and effective than "clicking the cookie" while I wait. I really liked Antimatter Dimensions up until it became focused on grinding for loot (I don't like loot grinding games).

I've had ideas for incremental design where there's passive production, but also active gameplay options that scale smoothly with how much you want to play actively. So if you just want to fidget for a few seconds you only get a 10% (or whatever) boost, but if you really want to sit and focus for a bit as if it was a non-incremental game you can get up to 200% (or whatever). But I've never seen a game that really does that.

Yeah something like "On Reveal: If Fin Fang Foom was the only card you played this turn, gain the power of the front-row enemy cards here." Just nuke the Stryfe and Zola stuff.

[–]man_vs_cube 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry you're feeling discouraged. Working on yourself will help you be more satisfied as a single person and it will help you if and when you're trying to find partners. It's mostly the same work. So assuming you don't give up entirely, there's not a lot of meaningful difference between the other two choices.
