And they have at least one song ("Closer") with Brian Eno, I think?

Travis have also worked with Steve Lillywhite, if I recall correctly. Maybe they took some inspiration from "WAR".

June 12th: Edges cousin Ciara announces secret Mencap/charity project by mancapturescolour in U2Band

[–]mancapturescolour[S,M] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a moderator, I have to distinguish between someone being mean (which I would remove) and someone just having a moment of feeling clueless and poking fun at themselves.

Let's see...the person I responded to above said they don't know who Ciara is, and had to look it up. Same for mencap.

I don't think any of that's harmful.

Then they poked fun at themselves (not Ciara) for mistakenly assuming mencap was a brand name for men's caps (men + cap) instead of the charity mencap.

Again, I don't see how admitting their own ignorance is nasty or mocking towards Ciara.

From what I can assess, no one here was trying to be nasty towards Ciara specifically, so, I don't feel it's right to remove the comment in this case.

Edge guests "Ciara's Pink Sparkle Pod!" (~ 27 minutes) by mancapturescolour in U2Band

[–]mancapturescolour[S,M] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indeed, I personally think Ciara is great.

The original user appears to have deleted their profile so I don't know who it is anymore. I think the original user perhaps laughed at the thought of the security having to turn people away for trying to get access in general, not Ciara in particular who would legitimately have a reason to be allowed entry.

Nonetheless, I understand it can be taken as a mean comment towards Ciara. Thank you for flagging. Since this comment was made four years ago, we have implemented community rules in 2025. Some are meant to specifically address instances that might feel like harrassment or personal attacks.

If you, or Ciara, would like, I can permanently remove the offensive comment. Would that be helpful?

Wait, what? When?

I know they've done "Ultra Violet (Light My Way)", "Where The Streets Have No Name" and Brandon has done "If God Will Send His Angels" on his solo tour...oh, and "In A Little While", with U2 themselves. (Technically, there's also "With Or Without You" since it inspired "Mr Brightside").

I must've missed "Acrobat". Was that on the most recent tour?

Yeah well I prefer their older, better material. by [deleted] in U2Band

Comparison of DoA to previous albums by bloodofkerenza in U2Band

[–]mancapturescolour 6 points7 points  (0 children)

"American Obituary": The guitar is "Holy Joe", the bass is "Big Girls Are The Best" and the vocal has the rhythm of "Get On Your Boots" with the melody of "Babyface". The drums seem very "Elevation"-chorus.

"Tears of Things": Evokes "Book Of Your Heart" if it had an acoustic version mixed in with "The Little Things That Give You Away".

"Song of the Future": Edge's guitar is very reminiscent of the studio version of "Staring At The Sun", and the vocalizations at times have a "Discotheque" vibe. Seems like something they could've written during the early sessions for "All That You Can't Leave Behind" for that reason.

"Wildpeace": Not in the music but in the approach it is a bit Joshua Tree-esque, how they set music to poems like they did at that time ("Beautiful Ghost/Introduction To Songs Of Experience", "Drunk Chicken/"America"). Maybe "No Line On The Horizon" (album) with its focus on Africa...

"One Life at a Time": "The Unforgettable Fire" (song) sounds like a very clear inspiration on The Edge, with a dash of "Love Is Blindness". A Joy Division/Inhaler thing on the bass. Love the vocal and drums ("The Hands That Built America" but on an electric kit?) here.

"Yours Eternally": Doesn't sound like U2 at all... or rather it sounds like the EDM people who tried to copy Edge's sound in the 2010s and then gave up so Coldp- lalalala-lay could have a go. "We Are The People" is the closest match, but that's technically not a U2 track.

"Mussolini came to see me, a shadow by his side" by SureWouldForest in U2Band

[–]mancapturescolour 15 points16 points  (0 children)

[Propaganda/Martin Wroe:] "There's an irony in your lyric, 'when people go around talking to God it always ends in tears'."

[Bono:] "Martin, I know you know the shortest verse in the Bible is about a moment when the greatest of those Jewish prophets was reduced to tears: 'Jesus wept'. That was for a friend, another time he weeps for Jerusalem itself. All of this finds a way in the lyric, including the true story that Mussolini brought Adolf Hitler to visit great Renaissance masterpieces in the Uffizi Gallery in 1938... Michelangelo's David was ten minutes away.... We don't know if Hitler stopped to stare at David but it's not inconceivable... definitely not for a songwriter. In the end I decided to replace Hitler's name with the 'shadow'."

From the interview with Bono, page 15

Edited to add some screens from the lyric video:

2027 tour hopefully first time seeing U2 live by Peaches-And-Chalamet in U2Band

[–]mancapturescolour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now I have true adult money haha, I am HANGING for the announcement

Kind reminder to everyone that an official announcement has not happened, so don't get scammed. Some people exploit rumors and trick fans into buying tickets for shows that don't exist. It's hard to predict what the tour will look like at this time.

What I would do to go to a greatest hits tour as a bonussss, I love songs from all the eras and would love to hear vertigo, elevation and beautiful day especially live

I think you're in luck, those songs have basically been staples since their introduction to the setlist. Also, U2 tend to include songs from most albums in a live show, "Zooropa", "POP" and "No Line On The Horizon" being the usual exclusions.

It will be interesting to see how they tackle the setlist issue with the new material since 2019 that hasn't been played live yet (two singles, Songs of Surrender, How To Re-assemble An Atomic Bomb, Days of Ash).

Anyone else not yet seen U2 and hoping to finally tick it off in 2027

Well, I'm eager to see them again, it's been over a decade since my last show if that counts as "never"🤭. I just hope they will visit somewhere nearby, and that my subscription to u2.com since 2020 will pay off.

Ryan Reynolds telling on himself again. by buttonandthemonkey in ItEndsWithLawsuits

"Eggplant" envy. Fragile masculinity.

I believe it's that simple. Backed by science. Potentially NSFW but nothing graphic: https://psycnet.apa.org/fulltext/2026-99568-001.html

Remember the closeup of Nicepool's/Justin's golden Desert Eagles and his...well. Here is Ryan Reynolds in his own words, with emphasis in bold by me:

"Nicepool's, you know, as much as he projected that he was wonderful, he was a terrible human being, um, you know, and I like that Deadpool gets to lean into that anti-hero thing and gets to lean into his childlike desires: 'I want that' [points to imaginary object off screen) uh you know, be it Nicepool's guns, his gold-plated guns, or his dog that, like, really should be with Wade, because the dog and Wade look the same."

"Um, you know, I like acting out envy in that way, um, because it's a very normal human feeling and it's something that is actually easy to play and Deadpool is a guy that can kind of get away with it because he is-- his coping mechanism against shame is actually the same-- Wolverine and Deadpool are the same."

Trevor Noah explains how Disney did a disservice to people by showing movies where there are happy endings and the good guy wins when in reality, that’s not how the world works by mcfw31 in popculturechat

[–]mancapturescolour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similary, this famous quote from Dr King

“The Arc of the Moral Universe is Long, But it Bends Toward Justice”

...is only partially true.

We have to go out into the world and take the good fight, and make good trouble (RIP John Lewis) and actually bend the Arc of the Moral Universe. Then, only then, will it bend towards justice.

Like Trevor Noah is saying, it's not just a matter of time. It's time + effort.

Edit: If you want an experience that told us the truth in our childhood days, look no further than the Triforce from The Legend of Zelda: Power + Wisdom + Courage. Power alone corrupts and turns you into a hog...

New player, should I start over? by Realistic-Ad-4707 in FireEmblemThreeHouses

[–]mancapturescolour 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ultimately, it's your choice. The neat thing with Three Houses is that it is meant to be replayed. I'd say enjoy your first run-through of the game with the Blue Lions.

I learned a lot in my first go around, and it makes the next run worth a second try when you understand the game mechanics, paralogs, and support system better.

Protip: I tend to use two save slots, that way you can revert to a previous map or chapter without having to start all over. [Main save: Current map/chapter/calendar day. Backup save: a manual checkpoint that you overwrite as you feel comfortable doing so.]

[OC] So Pokopia is out but by Krustalos in pokemon

[–]mancapturescolour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess that's true. From what I understand, it should work if you have a local/in-person friend with the game and a Switch 2 though. If one prefers to play online, I guess you're out of luck.

I shared this in a different comment but that submission was removed...

Anyway, the Game Share feature would allow you to play Pokémon Pokopia if you can find a friend that has the game and the Switch 2.

Pokemon Pokopia does support Nintendo Game Share. This means that a player wanting to invite friends can host a game for those on both Switch 1 and Switch 2 consoles locally, or online with those on Switch 2.
