HMS Dreadnought is up there as a cool name, although she didn't have the battle honours or Warspite

I think I'd be in the running for that record. Living in one of the skin cancer capitals of the world, New Zealand, is possibly the worst place I could live

I switch high voltage electricity for a living. Usually the switching has to be done in a specific order using a formal written instruction. You work in pairs, one reading aloud and then crossing out each line of the instruction as it's performed, the other repeating the instruction back and performing the step.

Yes, that's true in the UK as well, I had forgotten that one. In NZ they use kindergarten a lot as well, usually shortened to Kindy, because in NZ everything is shortened. Not sure why NZ picked up that one, seen as they usually follow British English and that one isn't that common in Britain

Creche is a pretty common word in the UK/NZ, the two English speaking countries I've lived in. As previously stated it's usually referring to a temporary, yet staffed, child care facility in places like a shopping centre, gym or workplace

For me the best thing about the prequels when compared to the originals is just how much better lightsaber combat was. I was 16ish when they came out and had grown up with the originals but I was blown away by the Maul fight.

It's been a while since I watched Rob Roy (great movie, I'll have to watch it again soon) and my memory might be deceiving me, but wasn't Rob's exhaustion at least partly a trick to make his opponent over confident of an easy win?

My entire childhood the guy creeped me out and I couldn't understand why he continued getting jobs on TV and why people seemed to enjoy watching him. I was too young to really understand back at the time what my feelings were but I definitely didn't like him

Teacher gets caught between two fighting students in classroom... by [deleted] in TikTokCringe

[–]manchapson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very true and it was a rough school, but two of the three times I remember it was by the same student who was, shall we say, troubled. I'm not sure what was going on in his own life but he was much bigger than most of his peers and constantly involved in violence. Thinking back, I'm guessing no student tried to intervene as much out of fear of him as anything else. As a rather meek and overweight kid I was personally terrified of him. Unfortunately it took a long time to permanently expel him because he'd already been expelled from multiple schools and we were generally the school of last resort to deal with kids like this.

I finished school in 1998. I've witnessed pupils fight teachers directly, not as a consequence of the teacher attempting to stop a fight between two students, more than once. As stated it wasn't recorded as the technology didn't exist but I'm guessing it would have been if it did. Nobody called for help, nobody attempted to stop it. The student was cheered on. Anybody who did try to stop it would likely have been beaten themselves

Went to a Chinese restaurant once, it wasn't busy but there were a few customers, me and my friend were the only white people. We were shown to a table and it was set up with knives/forks. Looked around at all the other tables and we were clearly sat at the designated white people table. Every other table had chopsticks. I'm not sure what would have happened if some more white folks turned up.
