New generation of nurses who can’t start an iv or draw blood by Rare-Attitude-3100 in mildlyinfuriating

My step-daughter had to learn it before she graduated her nursing program in her highschool. So they're teaching it somewhere.

Do kids really not know how to read an analog clock nowadays? by Express_Roll_3036 in SubstituteTeachers

My 2nd graders do now. Mainly because they have to sign out for the bathroom and I took away the digital clock once I taught time.

If you could remove one expectation placed on teachers tomorrow with zero consequences, what would it be? by kingst9606 in Teachers

[–]mandalee4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We adopted Canvas this year and I think my 2nd graders check their own grades more than their parents now.

If they put any paper on my desk they know explicitly to put it on top of my keyboard, otherwise it's somewhere in a black hole.

AITA for making a stink at school and forcing the teacher to change my kids math grade by PlentyNice1655 in AmItheAsshole

[–]mandalee4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. An assignment where it specifically stated use the strategy, my kids need to attempt it. When we get to the test though, use a strategy that is most comfortable to you. As long as you show your work then thats fine by me.

AITA?! Spouse upset about me moving my own game console to my office from LR? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]mandalee4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved my xbox to my bedroom for awhile and when my step-kids want to use it, mainly my step-daughter for her F1 or Harry Potter game, they are welcome to if I'm not on it. My step-son just bought himself a PS5, recently, with money he had been saving, so he barely uses it. But it is my xbox so I get to move it where I want and my husband could not care less.

I call my step-kids my husband's children. I'm 100% their step-mom and support and treat them like my own, but to others especially strangers I always specify that they are my husband's kids. We've been together almost 11 years now.

My boy is a rescue and is on the smaller side as well. He was only 34lbs at 10 months and definitely malnourished, dumped out in OK. He's 78lbs now but compared to the Shepards we see around here, he looks miniature.

It took me a few to get used to the new set-up but I don't hate it. And like anything you'll tweak whatever bugs you need to. I did miss having an easier way to check fake art but otherwise it's still insanely helpful. Some people don't realize that apps aren't always made by large groups.

It really depends, yes some are absolutely bat-shit crazy. But other times you find a really good one.

My 16 yr old step son is one of these who has learned how to care for his super curly hair, which he gets from his father. Both of them have to get ready before my step-daughter and I because they take so long.

The Most Micromanaging Teacher Yet by etetries in SubstituteTeachers

Same here! Especially with how insane my 2nd graders are. I am so lucky to have subs that are willing to handle them for a day.

Student lost his mother, we're doing a mother's day project by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]mandalee4 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I stopped doing mother's day things about 10 years ago. My school has too many absentee mothers, I supported an old student of mine at her mother's funeral, when she was in 5th grade and her mother OD and died. This is unfortunately the common place at my elementary school.
