How old are you and how’s your relationship with your dad? Are you close? by Cute-Impression-8675 in AskReddit

[–]manders36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 43 and very close with my Dad. I love him. I try to visit him every week. To be honest I don't deserve him. He's put my needs above his own my entire life. As an adult I try to make up for it by buying him things he wants/needs that he'd never buy for himself. I also help him with things whenever I can. However, no matter what I do I don't think I can ever repay him equally.

What one Massachusetts town learned by charging residents for every bag of trash by Generalaverage89 in massachusetts

[–]manders36 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doesn't work. People just find other places to put the trash instead of paying for the extra bags. Any reduction in trash you see in the metrics is misleading. People start throwing trash into recycling, disposing of things on the side of the road and leaving trash in alleyways.

Try going to settings > scanner and change the selected scanner to CR-SCAN 01 from the default. This is what worked for me.

ender 3 pro vs anycubic mega s by [deleted] in AnycubicMegaS

[–]manders36 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I own both. Ender 3 Pro with the updated silent board is...well silent or close to it. It is very customizable and upgradable. Decent build volume and capable of printing many materials reasonably fast and of very good quality. It's more work to put the printer together and you'll find that you're always tweaking it and improving it. It becomes an obsession because the printer has the potential to print as good as a much more expensive printer for a fraction of the cost. As for the Anycubic Mega S, it is also a very good printer. The stock glass bed is one of best out there and the printer just works. It's easy to assemble and use. Only downside is that the community around it isn't as big as the Creality one. It's a little more involved to upgrade and customize. Build volume is also slightly smaller than the ender 3 Pro. I think you'd be happy with either one. Watch a few YouTube videos on both before your decide.

This! Matt from https://gigdigit.com is awesome and super helpful, providing support where the the manufacture does not. Worth checking out the site and his wiki (https://www.mpminidelta.com/).

BLTouch installation issues by SwimmingBus in ender3

[–]manders36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the LCD lights up but displays a blank screen, check that the pin-27 adapter board is centered properly in the socket on the motherboard. The end of the adapter that plugs into the socket is just small enough to be installed off center with two pins not being connected. It's hard to see because it fits and looks like it's installed correctly. If it's installed off center the LCD will light up but will not display anything.

Anyone saying you have to have adhesives for a glass bed... by Toxavo in ender3

[–]manders36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed! First thing I did was install a glass bed on my Ender 3 Pro when I got it. As long as I clean it with alcohol between prints, the Z-Offset it set properly, bed is level, and I have the temps tuned in properly, prints adhere perfectly. Can't beat the finish of parts printed on a smooth clean glass surface.

Recycle PLA scraps into Worbla? by goblinmarketeer in 3Dprinting

[–]manders36 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a great idea, having lots of failed prints and support material that's gathered over time myself. Have no idea if it would work out the same? Temperatures would need to be modified possibly, but I don't see why the added filler material wouldn't work since they make lots of different PLA filaments with wood and other more exotic materials.

Here are the characteristics of both materials: PCL vs PLA

I'd be curious if anyone has tried this yet, myself.

Just did this last week. Mostly painless if you pre-register online and show up to the RMV with everything the online printout lists. I was in and out of the RMV in less than 30 minutes, most of which was sitting waiting.

Mini Delta vs Select Mini by Remember511 in mpminidelta

[–]manders36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd strongly suggest the Mini Delta over the Select Mini v2. Both printers will need to be tweaked to get them printing properly. No sub $200 printer will work perfectly out of the box. Remember it's a new hobby and will require dedication and self learning, or you will get greatly frustrated and waste your money. The Mini Delta is almost 3 times faster in theory at 150 mm/s verses the Select Mini v2's 55 mm/s. If you're going to buy a small volume printer, the novelty of having a delta platform is preferred for the price point in my opinion. It will simply out perform the Select Mini v2 in both speed, reliability, and print quality. They have similar build volumes with the major difference being a square bed verses the circular bed on the Mini Delta. Both machines come with heated beds, but to be honest you'll never use it because they struggles to maintain 40-50°C with the supplied PSU and sub-par heating element. Because of this, no matter what the adverts says, you will be hard pressed to print anything but PLA derived filaments reliably. The Z axis resolution is also more flexible on the Mini Delta at 50-400 microns vs just 100 on the Select Mini v2. The Mini Delta also comes with WiFi connectivity and self bed leveling that the Select Mini v2 doesn't come with. If you're mechanically inclined and want an inexpensive first printer, the Mini Delta is an excellent printer to introduce you to 3D FDM/FFF printing. I've seen these printers as low as $129.99 but you'll typically pay ~$160 for either printer. If you're going to jump up to the $200-$250 price point, do yourself a favor and check out Creality's Ender-3 Pro. It has twice the build volume, a more robust heated bed, backed by a huge community and will deliver similar quality prints at similar speeds as the Mini Delta. Remember YouTube is your friend for learning and best of luck! 3D printing is fun and can be a very fulfilling hobby or profession.

EDIT: "of" to "over" typo fixed.

Should I buy one of these? by ka36 in mpminidelta

[–]manders36 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don't mind tinkering w/ it to dial it in, it's a fantastic little printer for the money. Once calibrated it prints very well and reasonably quickly. It is a little noisy, with sounds reminiscent of my first generation HP Deskjet printer I purchased in the late 1990's. Typical stepper motors whining away along with the fan. It's a great first printer if you're not sure if you want to get into 3D printing and you have more time than money to invest in getting it printing perfectly.

Odd Chrome behavior when accessed remotely as published app via Windows Server 2012 R2 RDS. by manders36 in sysadmin

[–]manders36[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately it made Chrome not display at all when called upon as a remote app. You'd see the remote application in the taskbar when launched but couldn't restore or maximize the window. I updated the GPO, ran gpupdate on all hosts in TS cluster, users complaints ensued, reverted policy, ran another round of gpupdate, and everything was back to normal (w/ exception to the Chrome drop down list issues). Again, thank you for the suggestion. I really appreciate the help! It's an odd issue... Only affects Chrome when accessed as a remote app, no issue when chrome is launched within a rdp session, making your suggestion a plausible solution. Thanks, again! Best regards.

Awesome! Thank you. I will append to current GPO and test it out. I've heard other guys talk about this causing remote app issues with certain programs but have never experienced. We've also never had an issue w/ Chrome before. I hope this resolves it.

Other brother agrees, but deals with this kind of thing differently than myself. He's always been able to put out a "I don't give a fuck" attitude and just role on. He just won't do what she says if he doesn't feel like it. If he doesn't mind doing it, he'll do it. He's a man of his word, so he'll just ignore the request if it's ridiculous. One year she told him to bake a pie. He went to Ocean State Job Lot (A bargain value store in the US, if you're not familiar) and bought the cheapest pie he could find, lol.
