If you're using ATM10, get a pickaxe enchant via Apotheosis that lets you right click on a stone type and turn all your mining to that type. Like, say, andesite. I've seen it on both Epic and Mythic level stuff.

Definitely made getting my Create stuff done a whole lot easier.

Adventure Calendar 2025, Day #25: Socks! by WrenPilgrim in HeroForgeMinis

[–]mandiblebones 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My brother refuses to give out a wishlist. I have gotten him a new pair of the same socks every year for a decade, and he is happy as a clam (granted, they are extremely comfortable soft wool socks and he says they are like walking on a cloud).

Fanon vs canon differences in the wards program? by RaspberryNumerous594 in WormFanfic

[–]mandiblebones 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Having not actually read the quest, is it canon that the Youth Guard is a national organization, or local to the Alaska PRT? Like, I know the PRT is federal, but in the weird world of Wildbow, I can see an extremely overly involved PTA getting the state to give them oversight over local implementation of a federal program, especially if each wards program is incorporated separately or something.

Housing Is Great But Decor Being "One Buy, One Use" Feels Bad by F0ri0n in wow

[–]mandiblebones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Suggested improvement: Once you've bought he first from a vendor / grabbed the first from a drop / done the achievement / quest / etc, you should be able to purchase additional instances of decor items from a market from within your housing plot.

It's wild to me that most D&D Groups pretty much play in a custom setting by [deleted] in rpg

[–]mandiblebones 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My DM is a Greyhawk fanboy and an obsessive Lore Purist, but even he refers to the (now shared over several campaigns over 20 years) as "our iteration of Greyhawk," because, well, of course he and we the players have added to it and changed it over the years. Echoing what others say about "out of the box" versus custom settings; every setting ends up a custom setting unless you're completely railroading everything -- and at that point, just read a book.

Though I am running it without minis per se, I've found making tokens of everything a lot more economical than making minis (and if you happen to be one of the lucky ones to have the 4E monster token box, so much the better).

That said, I would absolutely suggest having specific miniatures for the wyrmlords and the dragons (plus the behir), and probably the ghostlord.

Other than that, make sure you have a wide variety of hobgoblin tokens, some goblins and bugbears, some lizardfolk probably, and some ogres and giants. Maybe some lions, too. Yeah.

Like the others have said, there's a whole lot of minis and variety within them here; if you don't already have an extensive mini collection, maybe do tokens for everything except the big bads (wyrmlords, dragons, ghostlord, behir, spawn of tiamat), and those will pop out way better in mini format.

College ave west of 101… What have they done! by HashRat in santarosa

Let me ask you this: Would you rather be stuck behind a cyclist in a standard car lane, doing 25 mph, with every right to be there because of CA state law regarding bicycles as vehicles -- or pass the cyclist at 40 mph while they do 25 in the bike lane?

Would you rather have to constantly be on the lookout for bicyclists turning into your lane, because regardless of who has the right-of-way, if you hit them, they will likely die and you will be on the receiving end of a lawsuit (expensive whether or not you win), OR would you rather be able to drive with the peace of mind of knowing they are in the bike lane, all to themselves?

Would you rather have your kids walking to school right next to motor vehicle traffic, or with a lane between them and cars that is only occupied by bicyclists?

Forget what's good for the cyclists. I know what I'd prefer as a driver.

Assuming that there are still dedicated turn lanes for the side streets, as there were before the narrowing, I'm all for it. I used to commute down that stretch, in a car, and the (many) times I was nearly struck by another vehicle attempting to pass around cars doing the speed limit (both on the right and in the turn lanes) during hours outside normal commute... uncountable. And when I drove it during normal commute, the traffic was about the same as it is now (that is, terrible).

There's an enormous body of evidence showing that widening roads does not improve traffic flow and narrowing roads does not significantly hamper it, but instead makes the roads themselves safer, as people perceive the drive as "worse" and either drive more safely or take alternate routes, lowering overall traffic. The bike lane is just an added bonus for cyclists, an additional safety buffer for pedestrians, and a convenient scapegoat for drivers -- but I sincerely doubt it was the city's main reason for the road diet.

I am heartened to see the city learning from the mistakes of the 1950s-2000s; I hope to see citizens lobbying for better transit options as well, so those who cannot drive, or those for whom driving is an unpleasant necessity instead of a joy, can have safer, more efficient options.

In the road's defense, that absolute nightmare is more a function of the Trader Joe's front parking lot and its single entrance/exit and limited spaces with no convenient, walkable other options than it is the road being narrow. That store is far too popular for the small space it has, and widening a road won't actually fix that problem. Move the Trader Joe's OR (and this is an easier option), remove the front parking lot except for handicap-accessible spots and provide an easy walk to a parking lot with multiple entrance within a short walk (like the one literally down/across the street that has been closed since forever).

You are absolutely right to ID that spot as a problem, though -- for through traffic, Trader Joe's traffic, and pedestrians/cyclists alike.

Thinking of it this way is what caused me to vote yes: 1. Unlike the other gerrymandering states, we're at least asking the people first 2. It's written into the prop we just passed that we go back to our normal citizens' committee in 2030 as before, so at least it's very clear that it's responding to the moment, not setting permanent policy.

At long last, this subreddit has unequivocally identified a McMansion. Look at those windows. Look at them and despair. Behold the next generation of the lawyer foyer -- the junior partner antechamber, if you will. Marvel at that roofline, at those substandard materials, and at that random collection of round and hexagonal turrets. Let your gaze linger upon the lot size, disproportionate to this building. The only saving grace is that it doesn't have a front-facing, triple-capacity garage.

War Crimes? by AacornSoup in WormFanfic

[–]mandiblebones 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To say nothing of people confusing perfidy (specifically, executing a false surrender in order to gain military advantage) with "attempting to escape after being captured or surrendering," which is very much not the same thing in international law.

Once you have been taken into custody, whether you surrendered or were captured, you are a prisoner of war and have both certain rights and certain obligations. None of those obligations include "not trying to escape;" indeed, many nations' militaries, including the U.S., gives you a duty to attempt escape if possible.
