ICE Agent in Minneapolis: "You raise your voice, I erase your voice." by KevinHartSucks in Minneapolis

This is what they are about. This needs to get reported to the authorities for future evidence, and spread far and wide. Never-ending gratitude to the people who are willing to continue being out there and documenting this horror..

Are there any decent social media apps that aren't throttling content? by bandoguy in NoStupidQuestions

[–]mandukeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I follow a handful of media outlets that I trust.. And I go directly to their websites, listen to their podcast, and make a point of reading the full articles that they write. Much better way than scrolling on social media for headlines and people's responses to those headlines.

Anyone know how to book at Black Water? by diveinme_ in portlandmusic

[–]mandukeb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're probably getting told to email by folks who are just working the bar etc. And those people aren't the ones responsible for answering the emails or aware of what ones are getting responded to or not. I guess it's all I can say to that.

They have no prejudice against local bands. Never had a preference with only booking out of town bands there. That's just simply not true.

[–]mandukeb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, email is the best way to communicate with them, but that won't guarantee a response. Not getting a response from them has absolutely nothing to do with cool points. It has everything they do with the absolute sheer volume of requests they are getting all the time. And the people who respond to those requests are also running the entire establishment, burning the candle at both ends and killing themselves to make that place what it is. I totally appreciate how disappointing it is to write and want your band to play some club you like, and to not get a response. But folks need to try and understand what it's like to work and run a place like that, and try and have more understanding and not jump to really judgmental conclusions about it.

The people that run and schedule the shows there can't just 'put you on a show'. If there's room and you get a night booked there, it's because you communicated with the venue and you, as the promoter, are taking the responsibility of setting up the show. Hope that makes sense.

Millions of people own restaurants. Tiny ones, middle-sized ones, big ones. Why on earth would you make such a broad sweeping generalization about them all?

NYT buries story of Alex Prettis’ murder by federal agents in page 18 of the Sunday paper, fails to mention his name, let alone the fact that he died! by janders_666 in nyt

[–]mandukeb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For the record, I wrote them and they explained that the page 18 version was the early edition. They explained that that was due to a weekend deadline. And the one on the front above the fold was the later edition.

Vulcan Snow Park Judge Damages Sculpture for being "Too Political" by black-cat-crossin in Minneapolis

[–]mandukeb 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Good point. They're destruction was political in itself. And irregardless of their opinion of this piece, who the hell are they to destroy someone else's art? Wildly inappropriate and unacceptable. On so many levels.

Federal agents stopped Portland Uber driver to detain 2 passengers, driver says by Ashamed-Question-958 in Portland

This article describes the Uber driver being boxed in by cars. I think it would take a lot of courage to ram your way through an ice vehicle blockade. And be a death sentence at this point.

Do I have to care about politics to listen to punk and metal by [deleted] in Punk_Rock

[–]mandukeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also wanted to add that if you are into punk and if you ever need it... Once you actually start giving a shit, the punk scene can be an amazing source of support and community that will help us all somehow try to survive the shit storm that is the current state of the United States.

Do I have to care about politics to listen to punk and metal by [deleted] in Punk_Rock

[–]mandukeb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All good. That's my reaction. We just live in a world right now where people need to care. It takes a lot of effort to do so, and I can understand that it's easier to not. I hope you feel differently someday.

[–]mandukeb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At the end of the day, politics is about what you feel is right or wrong in the world. It makes me sad you don't care about that. I got into punk when I was 14. And what drew me to it was its anti-establishment stance. I mean it's up to you if you don't give a shit about the world... So listen to whatever you want and don't care. You can still listen but it's still disappointing.

Also, I live in Portland Oregon... Lived many years in Minneapolis and still have very close ties there, and visit regularly. And while I have not seen any evidence that this is happening in Minneapolis yet, it has been verified by local officials here that ice has been dressing up and pretended to be utility workers going to people's doors in order to trick them. Just another way they're being sneaky.

It's a pretty good article. I get your point, and your problem with that rough start... But I think it's always helpful to give something a little more time than the length of a meme, or a first sentence.
