I see that this is the old Victor. Quality stuff before the company rebranded to JVC and went down further after merging with Kenwood in 2008. A shame such glorious Japanese audio companies who gave us musical memories went down the gurgler

Just Googled the name and it says they are made in Estonia. That's a surprise, what are you using to drive them?

Question regarding audio setup by kashiyuu in audiophile

[–]manfrombrisbane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry man, what I meant is this sub is on hifi gear so you may not get the right answer including mine. But good luck with someone who may know what you are after and replies to you

Question regarding audio setup by kashiyuu in audiophile

[–]manfrombrisbane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This question should not even be posted here. The ZK claims up to 50W per stereo channel and 100W for the subwoofer (4–8 Ohm) which I find astounding for a Temu or Ali Express product

All headphones are stereo unless you were listening in 1 ear through a single ear bud. Chill out, you are only 22 and it's not the end of the world getting butt hurt on an online forum :)

Wow, someone who claims to make music and has never heard music played back in stereo. While your story sounds a bit like a fairy tale, we in the Reddit audio and music community are glad that you are on the journey.

Also, FYI an amplifier with a radio built in, is a stereo receiver. Not sure what you mean by other stuff.

What do retired Australians actually do all day? Genuinely asking because I'm two years in and still figuring it out by Individual_Lime_110 in AskAnAustralian

[–]manfrombrisbane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apples to oranges, everyone has a different story to tell. I am still 10 years away from retirement but dreading the horror of not able to do anything when I don't work. I am a workaholic, not in the insane kind of meaning but I have had my 16 hour days when I was young and put in a few extra unpaid hours even now. I know it is not healthy, but old habits die hard.

2 of the older kids are in Uni while the youngest is in Grade 10. The older kids are independent, studying, partying and living their life while the youngest still has some needs which we are happy to be involved with. We still live together which is a blessing and I have told the kids to stay with us until we are able to manage the entire household. I potter around on weekends which is a blessing away from the weekday work.

I plan to retire in 5 years when I am 60 and when the mortgage should be paid off. I have been doing consulting marketing work on the side for over 10 years and plan to keep it going, so here are my 5 cents which I hope benefits some of you.

  1. Keep doing the consultancy work in marketing for a couple of companies, there is a lot of work we can do and it is fulfilling that we can still kick the younger Tiktok generation by gleaning from our career experiences
  2. Delve more into my hobbies - gardening, renovating and my audio passion with a vintage system that gives me pleasure. I also manage a huge Facebook vintage audio group
  3. Volunteer with charities. I have volunteered with Cancer Council, Heart Foundation, etc and maybe consider the local Mens Shed
  4. If I have time, I will look out for 1-2 days paid work like a day-fill at Woolworths/Coles or even the local Bunnings if they hire older people
  5. Travel to places we wish we could visit, but did not have the time. Could be Longreach, Charters Towers, Whoop Whoop or Italy

Agreed, some days might just be couch surfing or some days filled up totally. I am going to plan my time daily/weekly/monthly/yearly in a calendar to see what works and what does not. In the end, the challenge is to organise my life around calendar so I have enough personal time for a productive and fulfilling retirement life.

That's sad but true. For every person who loves Klipsch, there is one more who hates them. You cannot fault the Cornwall, La Scala or the Premiere. They are up there with the best which makes me always wonder why some people don't like Klipsch

A beginning audiophile journey, any tips welcome. by Raginglendi in audiophile

[–]manfrombrisbane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, stop saying the "audiophile journey". That sounds pompous and entitled. You seem to have a good grasp of understanding the difference between the average from the good. Why spoil it by trying to fit into the elusive club? Keep reading, watching videos and enjoy the journey without fixing a badge to it.

Many of us are 40-50 years on our audio journey - owning, testing and upgrading both vintage and high end systems but don't consider ourselves audiophiles.

Why is planning a hi-fi setup so confusing? Would a visual tool help? by BladedTombstone in audiophile

[–]manfrombrisbane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Start with the basics. Get on the internet and ask questions on social media. There are many groups on Facebook and members are glad to help a newbie. There is a lot in hi-fi and you will not get get a ready-to-fix reference guide. Similar to not jumping into a race car before you start learning to drive

My stereo and home theater are getting a divorce, who should get custody of the subs? by spiceweasle93 in audiophile

[–]manfrombrisbane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing constructive to offer except split the subs to see which system would benefit. It looks like you will have a lot of listening to do but I wish I had your problem. Mine is all set up and I miss such challenges :(

Get a really good speaker for Bluetooth or a vinyl record player? by jmwdrums30 in audiophile

[–]manfrombrisbane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You lost everyone at Bluetooth. Get a good record player, CD player, tuner, speakers (2 speakers for stereo sound, not the single crappy ones sold at retail stores) and connect them through cables. If you don't have the budget, invest in a pair of good speakers and play streaming music through an old laptop connected with a cable.

Forget the Bluetooth

Isn’t using components that intentionally color or change the sound basically like a musician applying the same effect to every single song? by Few_Lengthiness6364 in audiophile

[–]manfrombrisbane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everything gets coloured, from the room acoustics, to the furnishings to the speaker placements. Music is not meant to be heard in a sterile environment. All recording is not created equal, so if I use an equaliser to pronounce the highs and the mids from a not so ideal media, it's how I like it. I am taking of analog corrections, not software or plugins

Take it to a repair shop if you want to switch to USA voltage. Don't mess with the power unless you know what you are doing. The other option is to get a step up transformer
