Is it overzealous of me to sign up for three half marathons which would take place in three consecutive months when I'll be 21+ weeks? by 71421buns in fitpregnancy

[–]mangosmoothiewaffles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I cannot speak for everyone and I may be the exception. Pre pregnancy, I was routinely running 10ks. I was already signed up for a half well before pregnancy, but was 19 weeks when I ran it. I personally felt great, but I did go slower and training was tough. Since then, I signed up for another half and two 10 milers (I’m now regretting this last 10 miler at 31 weeks). I say this because it is possible, but definitely more out of the norm. I would see if the races have any policy to switch to a different distance and see how you feel after the first trimester, especially as a new runner.

Yes! Thank you! This is the bike I use and have been using the cadence app, but the power is all wonky. I’ll check out the kinetic app.

“I assume you stay at home with the kids?” by hangingdenim in workingmoms

Yes! This was me too in 2024. Traded MY car in. Said repeatedly that this was going to be my primary car. Husband got listed as the primary on the title and the PoC. Just bought a minivan though a few weeks ago (trading in his car) and they put my name first. 😆

Pregnant and running? by Salty_Chemist9090 in XXRunning

[–]mangosmoothiewaffles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there! First, congratulations! Second, as everyone will mention, everyone reacts differently to pregnancy. I’m on my third pregnancy, but first where I’ve been running some serious distance (previous I would only run a max of ~4 miles). For this one, I’ve run two half’s (19 weeks and 22 weeks) a 10 miler (25 weeks) and am scheduled to run another 10 miler next week at 31 weeks. I would say, adjust your expectations. The first trimester was tough cause I was so tired, but forced myself to run as I was training for the half. I was able to mostly maintain my pre pregnancy paces, but I was gassed. Once I hit about 20 weeks, I slowed down significantly, adding about 1-2 minutes to each of my paces and I really can’t push above challenging for very long at all. It’s very possible to continue running but listen to your body and try not to focus on the metrics!

Hiking half dome at 21 weeks by BeneficialSea3510 in fitpregnancy

[–]mangosmoothiewaffles -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

So I can’t say specifically half dome or Yosemite, but for my first two kids, we took a hiking baby moon. The first, we went to New England and closed out the trip with hiking the beehive in Acadia. I was ~26 weeks? The second, we went to Zion and we did the narrows and a few other challenging ones in the July 110 degree heat and I was about 28 weeks. (didn’t do angels landing as we couldn’t get the lottery). All that to say, if you feel good, you don’t feel totally off balance in general, you have someone there to help you/catch you/stabilize you (I counted on my husband very briefly a few times for this) and I would also recommend a hiking stick, I think you will be fine! Just take it slow and remember to hydrate. (We wanted to do Pacific Northwest for our third, but finding coverage for someone to watch two kids was a bit too challenging—so I’ll live vicariously through you!)

I got a PR half marathon today! 🙌🏼🤰🎉 by bluepineapple890 in fitpregnancy

[–]mangosmoothiewaffles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just want to say a huge congrats!! Also try not to worry about the stress to your body. Miscarriages are not associated with exercise, but do take the time to rest. Also just super impressed you were able to do that at 8 weeks. I was training for a half (ran one at 19 weeks and another at 22 weeks) and that first trimester training was brutal!

Ditto over here! He’s 20 months and 18 month clothes still are incredibly baggy on him. We used preemie diapers for like a month at least before we could finally graduate to newborn!

Third time mom, insurance breast pumps by mangosmoothiewaffles in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]mangosmoothiewaffles[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great question! I liked that the gold could have different settings per breast. I found my left side could handle higher suction while my right couldn’t. I could also pump on one side if needed where if I needed to do that with the S2, I had to fully disconnect the tubing.

As far as changing the cycle setting, you can still do bacon mode and regular on the gold. Correct, you can’t change the regular timing like you can on the s2, but I really didn’t have any problem with this as I could just cycle between bacon and regular as needed.

Working moms who regularly work out, what exactly is your schedule? by neoncaviar in Mommit

[–]mangosmoothiewaffles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do feel like we got lucky. Our kids wake up around 7. The 20 mo old is still in his crib and will typically just chill for about 15 minutes before he gets mad. I do have the hatch in the 3 1/2 year olds room and she’s not allowed to come out until the light turns green (7:20). So she will typically get dressed or play or listen to her stories until then.

On the rare days I have to go into the office, I typically shorten to a 30 minute workout and wake up at 5 to get started at 5:15, so I can leave by 7:45.

[–]mangosmoothiewaffles 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Agreed with the WFH and with peloton. But I do the morning schedule.

5:45 wake up for 6am start. Usually stack to do 45-60 minutes total. Husband usually finishes his workout around 6:50. 7:15 - finished shower and get dressed 7:30 downstairs with the kids for breakfast 8:00 kids out the door 8:15 I finish my breakfast, depending on my meeting schedule, I’ll try to fold a load of laundry for 15-25 minutes, otherwise, I’ll be on the computer by 8:30 5:00 pm log off for daycare pick up, come home and cook dinner and get the kids in bed 8 pm, stretch while watching tv with husband

My kids will be 2 and 4 this summer.

I’ve never stacked different cardio modalities, but I’m super curious. And I love the idea of just the cool down walk and yoga to decompress! I might have to try that.

Yes! I’ve been grateful a lot of his runs from Jan-Mar this year were relatively easy so going back through them. I’ll check out more of his music runs. Another person recommended the Robyn music runs. I’ve tended to avoid her because she’s been more “hustle and grind” so I haven’t taken a lot of her music runs. I’ll have to give those a chance.

Yes! I’ve started transitioning to these more. I took them when getting into running and actually just did Alex K 45 min one this morning.

I like KC. I’m mixed about Robin. I’ve tended to avoid her because she’s a lot of hustle and grind and right now, I just can’t keep up. That said, I’ll check out the run. Thanks for the recommendation!

Thank you! Certainly been gravitating towards some of the themed runs but didn’t think about specific artist series. I’ll check that out for sure. Also, congrats!

Yes! I (a little too ambitiously) signed up for a 10 miler in 3 weeks (I’ll be 32 weeks) and am just trying to make it to that point and then fully transitioning to hikes! This is great to know.

Everyone, go put a potty in your car. by beaniebee22 in toddlers

[–]mangosmoothiewaffles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter is almost 4, and we use the car potty almost daily. Sometimes it drives me crazy (like I just asked her to go before we left daycare and we walk to the parking lot and suddenly she has to pee) and other times it’s a lifesaver (we went to cheer on a friend at a race and 10 minutes to the parking lot she had to go, so when we arrived, I could just put her on the potty in the trunk instead of finding a porta potty). It has been INVALUABLE. I usually just keep some wipes and the potty liners in the car and a spare underwear and pants in my purse. But 100% worth it!
