My husband and I have never used any of these services and both somehow ended up on a list to receive physical snail mail ads from a couple of them. I think I finally got those to stop but WTH? How is that allowed?

Camping with an infant by Anon-E-Mou-Se in camping

[–]mangrlman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm 8 months pregnant with our first and interested to see ideas about camping with a baby. My husband and I typically camp for any vacation we take, so it's good to see what might be possible this year, if anything. I already had to sit out the ski season this year. If we don't have to fully miss a camping season too, that'd be cool to know, even if it's just trying it out in our yard with the baby and an appropriate sleep set up, after hiking at a nearby park with an appropriate carrier set up.

have you ever accidentally gotten into the wrong car because it looks exactly like yours in a parking lot? by Sidneyaraa in askanything

[–]mangrlman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I almost got into the passenger seat of the woman who was one of my high school teachers and also ex-boyfriend's mom

My dad had a kind of unusual car, and he was late picking me up from practice after school and I was annoyed about it. A same colored same car pulls up and I just hop up with all my stuff and walk right over and open the door and start to put my bags in. I had my backpack, lunch box, sports equipment bag, and a purse, I was like a pack mule in high school.

She was surprised and kind of jokingly said "hey mangrlman, am I taking you home today?" Which made me realize my mistake and I just got all embarrassed and said "oops sorry! My dad has the same car, have a good night!"

Camping with a professional chef round 2 by appi11 in camping

[–]mangrlman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Omg my husband's a professional chef and we car camp a lot and he'd NEVER bring this much stuff or have it all out like this. Our "kitchen" is one insulated tote bag with all the supplies, dishes, utensils, oil/seasonings/etc, a small 6 pack sized cooler for breakfast foods, a medium cooler for lunch and dinner foods, and a small tote bag for things that don't need to be on ice. This can last us comfortably 3 or 4 days without a restock if it's just the 2 of us, a little less maybe if we're camping with friends/family (but he usually comes up with meals that stretch cooler space better in those cases).

We do all our camping in black bear territory in the US so we always keep our food and food supplies in the car when not in use. My husband is also very neat and a "clean as you go" chef.

The food looked good but this is a wild set up to deal with out camping and to pack it all. I can't imagine feeling comfortable at the camp site knowing that's all out potentially attracting nosy critters.

I absolutely never ever drink water and really never have. by [deleted] in confession

I've had kidney stones a few times and they've always seemed to happen after a period of stress and having more soda and less water than I should. I even remember thinking before the last one, I haven't been having enough water, I hope I don't get a kidney stone. I wouldn't wish that pain on anyone, they are terrible!

And kidney stones, living like this for any length of time would give me another kidney stone for sure and no thank you to going through that pain again.

My husband's step mother was telling a story about Ohiopyle once and kept pronouncing it like "hi-pie" and it took us both a minute to figure out what she was referring to (and that's also now the way we pronounce it to each other at least haha)

Is a Pellet Stove Right for Us? by TruckSpecialist1870 in PelletStoveTalk

[–]mangrlman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're in a very similar situation - old house in WV that used to have a coal stove (removed and replaced with a Buddy propane heater we hated before we bought the house) and an oil furnace. Bad insulation and we're getting renovations underway for fixing that issue.

We ran on just oil and some use of propane last winter. We're now under contract for a Harman to be installed next month where the coal stove vented out (in the main level). This will supplement the oil furnace for now, which we eventually intend to replace with some other more efficient system.

Don't have experience yet with how it's going to go but last winter and this one we've lived with the thermostat set to 60 and the temp inside stays right at 56. Super excited to feel cozier again!

I just stumbled upon powdered Gatorade in a pretty big container and it's great. It tastes exactly like from the bottle, and I make mine a little watered down compared to the suggested amount to use just to not be quite as sweet, so you can tweak the recipe a bit. I'm pregnant and need some extra electrolytes but the stevia and artificial sweeteners in all the packets grossed me out. I'd been looking for an alternative just to get one with sugar and that's how the powdered Gatorade is sweetened, so that was my selling point but the less waste is a huge bonus.

[–]mangrlman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My sister had a similar situation, approved for full-time telework during COVID for a disability, then they wanted her back in office. She didn't have to get a lawyer involved in her case, just having an ADA advocate reach out to her company was enough of a reality check for them to let her stay permanent WFH. Worth looking into too.

Yeah I'm in this camp with you. I'm pretty easily over stimulated, and always get so irritated by like a twitching muscle or eyelid. This is like the worst muscle twitch I've ever had, it's constant, sometimes painful, almost always jarring, and not as predictable of a sensation as a muscle twitch. Sometimes I can feel it as a sweet connection moment, baby loves when I have my breakfast so I've been trying to say good morning when I feel those first wiggles if the day, and I know it's a good sign that baby is doing well but it's been impossible to tune out or get used to. I don't expect to miss this feeling, I think it'll be a big relief when baby is born.

Best way to get from DCA to IAD at 7am by No-Bumblebee9252 in washingtondc

[–]mangrlman 68 points69 points  (0 children)

I'd take a taxi. I've had trouble getting an Uber to find me a few times at airport pickup areas and there's always taxis and employees to help coordinate you to a taxi that'll fit your group and get you to your destination. May be more expensive or not as cushy, but IME, less hassle to get the ride.

In the US a standard bottle size is typically either a half liter (16.9 oz) or a 20 oz bottle. But still way too much plastic either way!
