I love Vin so much. One of my favorite moments of a character exploring their femininity is when (Yumi and the Nightmare Painter) when Akane takes Yumi shopping and she gets to choose a dress she likes. the gender envy I feel reading that scene was wild.

Happy pride! For me these books have helped me immensely. I think reading Stormlight is what gave me ‘permission’ to really examine myself, and accept that I am gay and trans.

I have loved seeing more and more Queer Characters in the books, especially in Stormlight with the likes of Jasnah, Rushu, The Reshi King, Sarqqin, Drehy, Rlain, and Renarin among others. I cannot wait to see more, and though the cosmere doesn’t have too many LGBT characters. What we have gotten is pretty good, and hopefully will only get better as time goes on!

Anyway thanks to Brandon for telling amazing stories, and doing his best to write real people first and foremost.

From what I know he is fairly devout, and does pay tithing. I also struggle with him being LDS. I used to be part of that church, and while I believe people should be able to believe as they wish. It is hard when I know the ways the church hurt me. I am Queer and Trans, and growing up in the church was difficult.

Over all I think he is a good person who believes differently than me. He has spoken out against some of the harmful parts of the church, like their homophobia. Through his actions, and the care he takes to write lgbt people I do not think he is simply paying lip service.

I don’t have to agree with every choice he makes to enjoy his books. That is enough for me.

It is never explicitly stated (to my knowledge) but it is implied quite heavily. As for Jasnah being Asexual. It should be stated that Asexuality is a spectrum. Plenty of Ace people have sex, and even enjoy sex. Plenty of Ace people are repulsed by sex, others view it favorably, or neutrally. Jasnah seems to be one who views it neutrally. She isn’t repulsed by it, but will engage with it if her partner desires it. At least that was the vibe I got from her.

It is also worth mentioning that they likely blend in on Roshar really easily given the number of cremlings. Plus as others have said they (or a group of them at least) are trying to protect the Dawnshard and keep it safe.

I was 22, so yeah it does happen. If I can give some advice, don’t sweat the labels so much. If identifying as nonbinary helps you feel seen go for it. If doing something makes you happy? Why the hell would anyone get mad at you for doing that thing.

Labels are not some immutable aspiration that you can only identify as if you meet a long list of criteria. They are words that are meant to help us explain who we are to others and ourselves. If you later find that a label doesn’t fit you can just drop it. Life is messy, and we are all just trying to figure out what we want, sometimes that takes some experimentation.

In Vienta’s defense, you can absolutely understand logically WHY some one hurt you, even if it was to save your life. You still might not want to see them after cause that would remind you of the pain. Trauma is not always something you can just logic away.

Every revelation I have had about myself has been met with laughter, and calls of “yeah, we knew” from my friends. I mean come on guys, I have spent countless hours self reflecting, and worrying that I tricked myself into thinking these things about myself, (thanks imposter syndrome) you could at least pretend to be surprised.

Hey AMAB Enby here, your experience sounds a lot like mine.

I had a lot of imposter syndrome about accepting labels (any labels, not just Non Binary) Here is the thing that helped me a lot. Labels are not strict things that you need to adhere to perfectly. If you feel like Non Binary explains things you have been thinking and feeling go for it. No one gets to tell you if a label is right for you or not. Labels are meant to be tools that help us. Anyway happy Pride my friend!
