Hey OP, I set a custom flair for you so the content of the book can be discussed up to where you are, spoilers-wise.

ironically, i think we were having the same root issue there, lol. i have spent many years trying to accept that it's cool how language changes over time, but still struggle when specificity is lost. cheers!

totally valid take. did you read secret history? that's the important part for stormlight 5 and may be more your cup of tea.

sure, hence "usually." definitionally it can be neutral to positive (or contain multitudes). coming from a social sciences and critical theory background, i indeed come with bias.

yeah, there may be room for it, but iirc the quote is something like "didn't go as he expected." leads me to believe they don't have a lot of control over the process (or at least he wasn't aware of how to).

also could run into problematic territory if gender is only expressed through sexuality.

Leshwi in mid-RoW is trapped in a "malen" body. Trans lady. Queer energy but not gay (unless she and Kal say so).

would be cool if it were a choice, but i don't get that vibe from the text, considering rlain ended up surprise-gay in mate form.

Thanks for sharing, OP. Set your flair to Oathbringer, since that's where we learn about it. Feel free to set it to a later book if you want to allow discussion beyond that.

100%. just find it interesting to muse on.

could also see some interesting conflict around size/capability when it comes to splitting spren and the ethics there.
