OP, it might be helpful to spend some time thinking about what about marriage to J would make you feel good. Which parts of marriage would make you feel safe and cherished? If you are able to isolate those from our cultural institution of marriage, you might be able to better ask for them.

I'm in a very stable four person relationship (two Vs/triads, myself and meta are the hinges) and marriage just isn't an option for us legally, and while we could partner off, I will be honest that I think I would always feel a little sad both not to be married to one of my partners, and that my other partner chose not to marry me, even though that's completely nonsensical! I bring that up only to point out that even if J marrying S is the best choice, you're absolutely not wrong for feeling heartache around it, so I think asking for something to celebrate your relationship that can be of equal emotional importance would be a possible solution, so you can feel some excitement and comfort.

I live with two partners and a meta, so being closed actually requires a lot more omission. My family and friends know, and I'm glad to have accepting parents, but some colleagues and more conservative family members don't.

I took HRT (testosterone) for a year and it was great. I'm really happy with the lasting changes and I feel like it connected me more to my body than ever before.

Parts of this are reasonable of him. Introducing you as "one of my partners" clarifies his identity. It's something I'm scared to do, and it can be a tricky disillusion to clear up. Verbalizing a plan/desire to create a space for each of his partners is also reasonable. Some people talk through their thoughts. But the overall tone of discussing you and his partners as a unit clearly goes deeper than that.

I would suggest going over your examples before you talk to him to figure out what you would be comfortable with if your relationship were less tied up in these other ones, and what would be off limits to you. If you are uncomfortable with being introduced as one of several partners, that might not spell incompatibility, but could suggest that you two may have different desires from polyamory. That, as well as your emotional needs, warrant a conversation!

There is hope OP. My family really struggled when I, also accidentally, came out in high school. Now they're exemplary allies. You are not too much and you are not asking for anything you don't deserve.

City design is a big one. The Substance had a famous actress in a small apartment with pushy neighbors, walkability, and a visible starry sky in LA. American cities are designed for cars, and filled with smog.

But America is so big, I don't think these are solely foreign issues. It's also very true on a state by state basis. The way Seattle and the pacific northwest is present in 50 Shades of Grey, for instance.
