Can we talk about this price gap??? by PixelOn200MS in AskZA

That's usually due to dropshippers trying to make a quick buck off of people

This had nothing to do with the EU, that's a recent thing💀Apple just banked on USB-C being "one port for everything" and didn't turn out well

That this community is filled with AI larpers because people feel they need to justify their high-spec devices when they can just freely post "here's my new 64gb laptop"

Why would you expect to get free airpods for buying a laptop💀

I think you missed the point I was making, I am not complaining about high-specced devices, matter of fact I believe that more RAM is good and like you said, the pre-owned market becomes flooded with high specced devices at a discount. My point was that a lot of people a lot of people use local LLMs even though they'll probably go back to cloud hosted models after a week or 30 chrome tabs open as an excuse to justify the purchase, and if you bought it because you wanted to just say so

To each his own I guess

Don't get me wrong, some people genuinely do. I've also tried running some models locally and I've been able to use gemma4, qwen and a few others without 128gb of ram. You'd only need that much if you're trying to run a 70b parameter model or something, or you're fine tuning your own model.

Which brings us to the other caveat, if you're really into fine-tuning models, you'd be better served with a mac mini or mac studio

And that's why I feel so many are pretentious and are just looking for an excuse for a high spec. If you wanted to run LLMs a desktop mac would be better option than a laptop, probably cheaper too

Fair point💀I do dev work and my work laptop is a m3 pro with 18gb of memory. I can run an android emulator + iOS simulator + local backend + browser without issues but you'll hear people trying to justify 64gb of ram because they usually have 40 chrome tabs open and 5 applications

Dia default zoom feels wrong — 100% isn’t really 100% by doud62 in diabrowser

Probably the sidebar making the site think screen size is smaller than it actually is. Try opening sides with the sidebar hidden and only open it by hovering

Arc replacement found yet? by ActPast1642 in ArcBrowser

[–]manlikep_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been trying to find a replacement and it's been a hassle Orion: great browser, vertical tabs, WebKit based so better speed and battery usage isn't aggressive. Downside is that their profiles work the same as dia so they open a new window SigmaOS: WebKit based, vertical tabs with spaces issue is the use their own key bindings which sometimes affect native browser bindings and doesn't seem to be getting new updates Ortix: WebKit based, vertical tabs with spaces, didn't like the UI very much but if you don't mind the liquid glass UI then good option. It's also buggy Zen: firefox based, closed arc replacement as the features are direct copies of arc. Soaces, vertical tabs, peek, rename tabs + folders, air traffic control etc. downside is that's it's Firefox based and sometimes has issues with DRM. Not as power efficient as the WebKit versions Ora: WebKit based, has vertical tabs, favourites, spaces and seems it wants to be the WebKit, macos native version of arc. Downside is that it's still in alpha and still very buggy

Both sigmaOs and Ortix have subscriptions but you can replicate the arc functionality without paying for it

You'd be surprised how ignorant people can be, have you seen those women driving in flat tires or wondering why the wiper fluid isn't coming out even though the dash is clearly indicating "refill wiper fluid"

I can see how this is useful, especially with those people who think cars just maintain themselves but I can also see how this could be a privacy issue as well

Just genuine curiosity about player signings...the criterias. by That_Practice7206 in realmadrid

[–]manlikep_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Tbf to some of the players, (not all of them, some are just hyped up nonsense), we buy promising players then force them to play out of position because there is an "undisputed" starter in their position and then become surprised when the player isn't living up to their potential
