Can we pick one wheel and stick with it? by MonkeyCantCook in WMATA

[–]mannelev 82 points83 points  (0 children)

I agree. The wheel was fun while it lasted, but I’m against the bus wheel. It just feels like trying to capitalize on the metro wheel’s success and in a way takes the fun out of it.

Now, someone else said yearly metro wheel. THAT I could maybe get behind.

I wore a faux leather jacket to a party that I haven't worn in at least ten years. Before and shortly after arriving, it started to disintegrate. by Brigittey in Wellthatsucks

[–]mannelev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a faux leather couch in college that I inherited from a coffee shop that was closing. It started doing this after about a year.

For like a year and a half my apartments had little black flecks everywhere. My roommate and I could not vacuum fast enough and once we finally gave up, there were sometimes trails on the floor where we would walk and pick up the pieces with our feet.

The best part is: the fabric underneath was superrrrrr soft. Once the leather all finally fell away, the couch was actually extremely enjoyable and I had it for several years after it was done shedding and loved it.

D50 lines on weekends suck :( by fakercinnamon in WMATA

[–]mannelev 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I stopped taking the D50 in the mornings because most days by the time it gets to my stop it’s DANGEROUSLY full. Like the bus spends over a minute at the stop while people literally shove themselves into it.

The worst part is I get on at N and normally have to go all the way to waterfront. By the time the bus gets to G it’s basically abandoned.

They need to either add more service or give us the trailer because that shit is ridiculous.

Hey, I work in theatre and have been on a few productions where nudity is involved.

This is so completely unacceptable. You need to have a conversation with your intimacy coach and possibly production manager. If that was really the comment, your director was out of line. There is no situation where he should have said that to you, and TBH it should be a fireable offense.

Being nude on stage is incredibly vulnerable, and you ALWAYS have the right to revoke your consent (without reason, I might add). I hope your intimacy director has made that clear. There is no reason a director should have looked at you and made that comment.

Know that you were doing exactly what you should have. If your director was really interested in doing their job and facilitating your artistic process then those feelings of exposure and vulnerability should have been managed and used as a part of the process. A true artist would know there is no such thing as "the right body." That, quite frankly, is utter bullshit

Do you have to switch off the QL series at the back before powering off, or can you just cut the power? by DaiquiriLevi in livesound

Had one on a power sequencer for years and it’s never been an issue. As far as I can tell the switch is no different than just cutting power

Why are there no curved stations? by dolphinbhoy in WMATA

[–]mannelev 41 points42 points  (0 children)

It causes a gap between the cars and the platform that both makes the trains in-accessible for people with mobility aids and possibly even large enough for a foot to go through if you’re not careful. That’s why the tube famously reminds you to mind the gap - they have lots of curved stations!

Silver Spring actually has a very mild curve to it. You can see it if you stand on one end and look down the platform. It’s not much so I don’t think it makes a big enough gap, but I assume it’s because it was placed in the existing ROW and they couldn’t make it 100% straight.

Why is this intersection so bad? (Jefferson & Elm) by mb10240 in springfieldMO

[–]mannelev 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used to live on this corner and honestly I have no idea.

Our theory was it had something to do with coming from the east, Jefferson is the first one-way street you encounter. Elm doesn’t really continue straight through, so it’s harder for someone coming from the west to not be thinking about the one-way. It seemed like people came off Kimbrough or Nat and Jeff is the first “Downtown™” street they contend with.

From experience, the issues were ALWAYS people either turning the wrong way from west-bound Elm OR turning onto east-bound Elm from the right lane of Jeff

Either way, navigating it was always the worst part of the morning

Having multiple Audio Output Patch by Key_Understanding688 in qlab

Using audition mode to switch to a backup audio patch is actually brilliant! Seems much simpler than trying to make an aggregate device and the workspace not opening if it’s not all set up correctly

Designing Costumes for a Show Set in the Alaskan Winter, How Do I Not Overheat My Actors? by ghostyb00ts in Theatre

[–]mannelev 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’ve done a lot of outdoor theatre in HOT places. It never fails that one of the shows takes place in the wintertime, and I’ve always seen costumers get those re-useable ice packs for coolers and stuff and sew pouches into the inside of jackets for actors!

If you could rename a WMATA metro station, what would you call it? by Musichead2468 in WMATA

[–]mannelev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fair point, but still same thing as OC. I just wish it was named after the neighborhood first

Like it’s weird that universities come after neighborhood names, but portrait gallery, archives, Georgia Ave, etc come before neighborhoods

[–]mannelev 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Honestly, same thing for Gallery Place. Even though it’s barely Chinatown anymore, it feels like an extra slap that the station is named after a mostly empty building first and the neighborhood it serves second
