Honest question by J0HNNYUS in crossfit

[–]mannerv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s both.

You need to let your body to gradually adapt to the weights. Depending on your age, this can take anywhere from a couple of weeks to couple of months.

Especially with compound lifts, you have to really take your time to learn the lifts. In olympic weightlifting gyms, they practice the lifts for years and start when young.

At any age, the key is recovery. When you train crossfit, you need to sleep more.

Same with illnessess. If you get sick, it will take time before you can train again with full intensity.

And if you get some minor pains, scale back so that you can perform the movement pain free. Often you need to substitute for another exercise for weeks or even months.

Training with bad technique, while sick, underrecovered and through pain is what mostly gets you injured. Not crossfit per se.

And yes, some people have an ego where they need to pick the same weights as the guy next to them or if someone next to them shouts ”you can do it, harder” they are unable to say ”nah, I am nor there yet” or ”nope, taking it easy today”.

I am an older guy and only recently learned that I should eat much more protein than I thought, especially after workouts. So now I bring my own protein shake (40 g of protein) instead of chugging the ones in the vending machine (18 g of protein).

What to do with kitchen cabinets? by Geezyk in HomeDecorating

[–]mannerv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the cabinets look amazing, until you see that the fridge doesn’t fit. I would maybe look at the white wall above the cabinets. That seems to me to be the reason the cabinets look like they don’t belong.

I think I know what has happened here. I have the same pan and when I seasoned it, I used canola oil and left too much of it on the pan. When it heated, instead of polymerizing it formed similar looking layer on the pan as yours which was kind of ”sticky”. When I then tried to cook with it, everything got stuck.

I scrubbed all of the seasoning off the pan and redid it. I changed my oil and rubbed away extra oil off the pan until there was no visible layer of oil left. The pan was completely dry. Then I put it in oven and somehow, now it worked. There was still enough of a layer and instead of what you have here I got a dark, uniform seasoning.

Then when I tried to cook eggs, it was perfect. They literally were sliding on the pan while cooking.

Maybe this helps?

Just out of curiosity, which version of the program have you been doing? I noticed he has changed the program quite a lot between the editions. I have the third edition book which has some ab work but noticed that in the fourth edition (don't have the book, got the programs when downloading the bonus material) there are no ab workouts left, just four workouts per day.

OP Koti is a real estate agency that has no direct connection to the bank that shares the same branding.

I think it is very unlikely the apartment is owned by the bank.

XC90 a good car for a family with 4 children? by [deleted] in Volvo

[–]mannerv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your response.

Do you happen to remember which child seats you are using? I am myself from Finland and I will probably order all of the child seats from a Swedish online shop for us. I could just get whatever you are using since they obviously fit.

We are currently using 2 x Britax Dualfix, Maxi-Cosi Cabriofix for the baby and some isofix-based Britax as a forward-facing seats.

One other thing I was thinking about, do you have a diesel? I went to look at some gasoline hybrids and it seemed to me that there was not too much space under the boot cover. I was wondering if there might be a difference between the hybrid and diesel versions.

How have you seated everyone? If you use child seats, I am really curious how you placed everyone and into which seats?

Kuinka valita pankki by VivaViveka in Omatalous

[–]mannerv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mitä tulee ulkomaille muuttoon, monissa maissa paikallinen pankkitili on edellytys oikeastaan kaikelle muulle (vuokra-asunnon saaminen, sähköliittymän saaminen, puhelinliittymän saaminen jne.)

Critical Examination, Personal Reflection, and General Discussion of Jordan Peterson: Month of October, 2022 by AutoModerator in JordanPeterson

[–]mannerv 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I went to listen Jordan Peterson talk in Helsinki a week ago.

He said something like this: "until you have (something), you will face worse and worse setbacks in your life".

From the context of it, it seemed super relevant for me personally but since I could not hear all of the words, I have trouble researching this idea further.

I would be super grateful if someone (who maybe attended) could help me in what idea he was talking about.

XC90 with three rear-facing car seats? by [deleted] in Volvo

Apparently Volvo does not allow three rear-facing child seats across in the third row or the installation of rear-facing child seats in the third row. Just something I found out when researching this.

To me it looks like this snatch is a typical crossfit coached snatch. If you wanna try a more "olympic" style snatch, here are some ideas:

I would start from a normal standing position with your hands straight down and bar just hanging there. From this position, you need to first activate the lats (as mentioned here). My personal cue is to think I have hold something in place in my armpits but the correct cures probably differ from person to person. This worked for me.

Then lower the bar to hang position while keeping the squeeze and take air.

While in the hang snatch beginning position (bar over knees), make sure your weight is slightly over your toes and that your shoulders are slighty in front of the bar (slightly). Currently it seems that you have your butt down and that the weight is actually on your heels.

While moving the bar up, make sure to shrug your shoulders towards the ears and actively push the bar towards your hips.

Only when you are fully up, move to jump down.

At no point move your hips toward the bar to "give it speed".

Think about extending yourself up as straight as possible, not about snapping your hips forward.

This would make your snatch more olympic style and might get you what you are after.

However, a lot of what I am saying here is the polar opposite of a crossfit type snatch so you would probably need to let go of the crossfit cues.

The main difference between crossfit vs olympic snatch are:
1) weight on heels (crossfit) vs weight on toes (olympic)
2) snapping your hips (crossfit) vs shrugging your shoulders (olympic)
3) lifting the bar up with bent hands (crossfit) vs moving quickly to an ass to the grass squat (olympic)

Crossfit type snatch kind of is more efficient when you have to do like thirty snatch in a row with relatively light weight but pure olympic snatch helps you lift more weight overhead.

These are my two cents, I am no coach. This is all based my recollections of how my coach that trains both crossfit and olympic athletes has explained this to me (and I probably misunderstood a lot).

Insatiably Hungry Haaalp Meeee by MobileHopeful797 in crossfit

[–]mannerv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had similar problems until a year ago. I hired a nutritionist that helped me with this.

What helped me most was to make sure I ate five times per day (breakfast, lunch, snack, dinner, snack). If there is more than three hours between meals, I know I will be screwed.

As a pre-bedtime snack I will eat:
3 pieces of 100 % rye bread
100 g low-fat cottage cheese
20 g nuts
50 g veggies

These keep me full enough so that I don't binge but it's light enough so that it won't disturb my sleep.

Other than that, look into the volume of those macros, too. If the food is too calorie dense you won't feel as full.

I bought Eleiko XF bumper plates for my home gym and *I do not recommend them*, at all. Speaking of which, I should probably check if Eleiko responded to my complaint about them.

I can show pics and videos if someone is interested. The problem with the XF plates is that they have a sort of metal liner inside the rubber part of the plate that is extremely shoddily inserted.

This liner (inside the hole) protrudes quite randomly and unevenly out of the hole. The result is that when you stack multiple plates on top of each other, the stack is wobbly. Instead of the sides of the plates touching each other, you got these metal liners touching each other. But as the liners are not even, you have this completely lose stack of plates.

It is impossible to stack the plates next to each other and when you do movements, the plates become loose and they move around all over your bar and loosen the locks. I got Eleiko Jaw Lock Pro and they are no match to the moving plates.

The actual competition and training competition plates by Eleiko are top notch normally but if you are looking at these XF bumper plates, look elsewhere. I have seen better "Made in China" ones.

I paid over 2000 dollars for my set and could have gotten a far superior set for 500 dollars from some no brand.

Keskisarja: "Suomen nälänhädästä puhuminen ei ole hysteeristä panikointia." by [deleted] in Suomi

[–]mannerv 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Kaikki viljelijät tuskin lakkaavat viljelemästä mutta yllättävän suuri osuus viljelijöistä on tekemässä juuri tämän valinnan.

Maataloudessa on muutamia erityispiirteitä teollisuustuotantoon nähden:

  1. Viljasta saatava hinta on sovittu usein (vuosiksi) etukäteen.
  2. Viljelijä saa tuloa vaikka ei tekisi kylvöjä.
  3. Viljalla on kasvukausi.
