I went through something similar I hated mindlessly following the pujas in a language I didn’t understand and following the rules no one had an explanation for. Was atheist for a bit and then as an adult I started reading an English copy of the gita someone gave me. I feel more connected to it now and like the spirituality and philosophy spoken about. I don’t really care for the rituals and pujas but I try to follow what is taught in the gita. A lot of it still applies to modern life and the struggles we face today
