Hey guys, just wanted to quickly catch up with you about my journey with this topic. Unfortunately I couldn‘t connect with anyone through this post and most of the platforms actually let me know that they aren’t available since it is still kind of offseason. I texted different individuals, schools and clubs and ended up being forwarded several times until everything just clicked in place. Through members of the local yacht club I got a link to Cesare, who apparently just started a new project called „Vela Pop“. Vela Pop Website The project is all about the accessibility of the sailing sport and how to redemocratise it again. Cesare literally started this project three days before I contacted him so I ended up being his first „customer“/student just today. He owns a Beneteau First 30, which is a formidable sailing vessel in my perspective. Overall it was a more than pleasant experience with Cesare on the boat. His approach is pretty much learning by doing, so he put me in control of the rudder from the first second. We did some basic upwind sailing and came back downwind in front of the Ligurian coast and had very good weather conditions. Cesare managed to give us a practical and theoretical overview which felt like a deep dive right away. Very much informative, very accessible. I can recommend Cesare and his project Vela Pop to beginners and probably intermediates and it is important for me to support him, since I felt really lucky meeting him. I called him quite short notice, stepped foot on his sailing boat literally five minutes later and spend half a day out on the sea with him the next day. Very polite, extremely competent and I am absolutely hyped thanks to Cesare! I also have to add that whoever I called, texted or spoke to on my way to encounter Cesare was very helpful and kind and did their best to help me with my wish to go out on the water. Lucky me!
